2014-2015 National Champs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still think that Wisconsin is perceived nationally as the better program, even if their resume this year may be a little weaker.

Nebraska is the epitome of what everyone rips the Big Ten for, i.e. "big programs" that win lots of games, but never the big ones.

And I don't really think national perception matters all that much to the committee. See their willingness to put TCU over Alabama.

Yea that definitely helps.

Well, Arizona State lost, so Ohio State is definitely moving up to at least 7. Question is did we do enough to leapfrog up to 6?

I expect the Top 4 (in no particular order) to be Bama, Miss St, Oregon, FSU. I'm guessing TCU probably only drops to 5.

Baylor, you mean.

I doubt we jump them. Maybe if Jalin didn't piss away 14 points himself.

My guess would be that it looks something like this with spots 3-5 all being interchangeable.
1. Oregon
2. Alabama
3. Miss St
4. FSU
5. TCU
6. Baylor
7. Ohio State

With Nebraska going down today, the best case scenario would be if Minnesota were to beat them next week along with Wisconsin beating Iowa. That would come down to a matchup of Nebraska and Wisconsin with the winner playing in the B1G championship. We would then end up playing either a 10-2 Wisconsin or a 9-3 Minnesota. Either would help out strength of schedule tremendously, not as much as an 11-1 Nebraska but it is what it is.

Nice to wake up to see ASU lost.

I think we end up 6th this week.

In some order, Oregon, Bama, and FSU will be the top 3.

Miss State probably takes over 4th with TCU's poor showing.

I think TCU holds onto 5 with OSU jumping the idle Baylor.

As shitty as yesterday was, there are still plenty of opportunities for upsets

FSU - BC, Florida, Acc Title game (Duke or Georgia Tech)
TCU - @ Texas
Baylor - OK St, Kansas St
Alabama - Auburn, Sec Title game (Missouri or Georgia)
Mississippi St - @ Ole Miss
Oregon - @ Oregon St, P12 Title game (Zona, Zona St, USC or UCLA)

We need, at most, 3 of those teams to lose. FSU has 3 tricky games, we know what a gaunlet the SEC is, Texas is surging and has a bye.

I still think we have a very good shot at the playoff if we run the table.

Beating two ranked teams on the road, in back to back weeks should be enough to move OSU up to #6. Baylor's loss to West Virginia was just as bad as OSU's loss to Va Tech.

Not to mention the huge advantage OSU has with human's making the rankings and not computers, because of their vast improvements since the Va Tech game.

I just feel that OSU is always going to be at the back of the one loss line and they have only themselves to blame. They will always have the worst loss (losing at home to V Tech). Plus, I don't feel like wins against MSU (got trounced by Oregon), Minnesota (lost to Illinois), and potentially Wisconsin(lost to Northwestern) will be enough for them to leapfrog another one loss team.

Florida fires Muschamp. Why does it matter?

Team might be playing some inspired football against FSU.

MSU went into the OSU game with what many considered to be the best defense in college football for the past two years, and OSU absolutely shredded them. I'd say it was one of the most impressive performances of the year. Regardless of who Minnesota lost too, they have been solid this year, and Wisconsin has what is basically Jesus at running back. If OSU wins out (which includes the conference championship), I don't see them being left out, assuming at least one of the current top four loses one time before then.

I don't know how people can believe this.

WVU lost to three teams in the Top 10 and Texas on the road.

VT has five losses, only one of which is to a team that is currently ranked. Four of them were at HOME.

There's no justifying OSU's loss to VT, if it costs them a playoff spot, then the lesson is learned.

Absolutely no logical conclusion that equates it with West Virginia, it was probably the second worst loss by a team currently in the hunt for a playoff spot.

I agree with your post but it got me thinking. You stated that it was the 2nd worst loss. What would be the worst ?

I guess they're not really in the hunt anymore, but ASU's 35-point loss to UCLA was worse for me.

Among the teams still left after this week, Ohio State's loss is by far the worst.
