2014-2015 National Champs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
JT Barrett just isn't ready for this level.

Braxton injury was really unfortunate.

Well he is not ready, and the play calling was bad. More slants, screens or even more QB runs

I mean single coverage on the outside not one step back screen to the outside. Very little running, very little bootlegs. Just very little good play callings

The offense is designed for the talent they have had in the past, not for what they have right now.

I'm annoyed but we all knew this was going to be a down year. You don't lose your starting QB, RB and four offensive lineman without taking some major steps back.

Which begs the question how in the hell this team started out ranked 5th. Carlos Hyde was the offense last season. I get when the rankings came out Miller's injury wasn't factored in before the rankings, but the defense was bad last season and a huge chunk of the offense was gone.

In what areas are we a better team?

Yea a screen or quick slant was sorely needed to help alleviate that pressure they had on us all night. I don't understand how we don't adjust AT ALL.

This was my biggest problem with the game. We didn't use their aggressive playcalling against them. Bubble screen, jailbreak screen, crack screen, conventional screen......all can be used to attack blitzing teams.

with this offensive line i dont think anyone can do anything - not that the QB is any good. So OSU really has a horrible O-Line and a subpar QB. The RB also seem bad unable to grind out yards and the WRs cant seem to get separation. Oh and kicker can not kick and score either. How does one score points ?

Ohio State has more talent on their team top to bottom. It's not like Virginia Tech is loaded with a bunch of veterans and just grinded out this win from shear experience. I blame the coaches more than I do the players. Barrett looked like a deer in the headlights, it couldn't hurt to throw quick screen to Wilson or Marshall when he is getting blitzed every play. Urban tore apart our '07 team in the national championship game by running quick slants and ball screens. I don't understand why we didn't see much of that. Or maybe Barrett is really that awful at reading defenses and making quick decisions. There are a lot of talented players on this team, it doesn't mean that they will be great players but it is up to the coaches' to get the best out of their players and again we are not seeing that. I still don't understand what role Fickell has with our defense and why our defense has not been competent since Tressel left.

Horrible O-line and horrible play calling. It's going to be a long year.

I think there is an outside shot that the Browns and Buckeyes do not combine for 10 wins this year. If they get to 15, I'll be estatic

While screens definitely might've worked, Barrett has an extremely slow delivery. A Navy defender almost had a pick 6 on a screen last week. With how tight they were covering the WRs, Barrett might not have been able to complete one.

I think this is a good portion of it. Some of those sacks were squarely on his shoulders. Just totally not seeing where guys were coming from so many times.

Awful awful awful.

Braxton's back 2015

The line was brutal and JT isn't ready. I don't know what they are trying to do offensively. They need to run north and south and throw quick hitting passes. They did the total opposite tonight. Plays took way too long to develop and almost everything broke down before it could unfold.

The LBing play is bad and the soft coverage is crap. The DLine is imposing, but if you are backed off 10 yards in coverage, the QB has an out. They gave up 2 easy 3rd and very longs to VTech when they were pinned deep. They have to apply more pressure on the outside and take some chances.

I'm beginning to wonder how committed Meyer is. How many straight weak showings is this? The team looks so ill prepared in so many phases that you can't absolve coaching

Thoughts?

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...ll-rewind-its-groundhog-day-again-for-big-ten

The Big Ten needed Saturday. It needed it bad.

Every year there's a weekend when the nation collectively turns its eyes to college sports' wealthiest conference to see if it will factor into the national championship football conversation. Lately, every year the Big Ten offers evidence to turn away.

It's like Groundhog Day in college football except the Big Ten is desperately trying to escape the SEC's shadow, not its own.

There's no huge shame in Michigan State's 46-27 loss to Oregon, a game in which the Spartans controlled for a half. Oregon ran off 28 straight points because, in part, the Spartans lacked the ability to keep their foot on the accelerator against the Ducks.

But the Big Ten's situation can no longer be about moral victories. Seven years removed from its last national championship game appearance, the Big Ten needs better results in these games during the playoff era.

Ohio State lost to to an unranked nonconference opponent at home (Virginia Tech) for the first time since 1982. Michigan got demolished at Notre Dame for the Wolverines' first shutout loss in 30 years. When a 19-point loss by Michigan State to Oregon is the highlight of your day, you know your conference had a rough day.

This same-old, same-old story made Week 2 largely about the Big Ten. (We see you,Stanford-USC. More on you in a minute.) As odd as it sounds, Saturday could have been an even more disastrous day for the Big Ten.

Nebraska barely beat McNeese State in the final seconds. Purdue lost to Central Michigan -- a result no longer considered an upset. Northwestern lost its quarterback and a game to Northern Illinois. Illinois rallied to beat Western Kentucky. Wisconsin only led Western Illinois 9-3 at halftime before pulling away in the second half. Iowa edged Ball State.Maryland survived to beat South Florida.

But let's be real: The perception of the Big Ten in 2014 would be decided by the night games: Michigan State-Oregon, Michigan-Notre Dame and Ohio State-Virginia Tech. And the Big Ten went 0-3 in those games.

The Big Ten dropped to 36-53 over the past five seasons against the other Power 5 conferences as they are currently compromised. The Big Ten fell to 8-29 against ranked Power 5 teams in that span. The Big Ten's traditional powers (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Nebraska, Wisconsin) dropped to 19-31 against the other Power 5 teams.

It's Week 2 and the Big Ten's national title hopes already feel dead again. When does Big Ten basketball season start?
