2014-2015 National Champs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So can we open up the talk about Meyer again? All this talk about Meyer's recruits finally coming in, and him finally having a grasp on the team with it being HIS team ... and they are not very good. Now let's be real, Miller being out is what derailed this season. We all know that. But the rest of the team doesn't look any good either.

I'm hoping it's an issue of so much youth.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I couldn't care less about the perception of the Big Ten. We suck and everyone knows it. That said, if Ohio State ever goes undefeated during this new system they will be one of the four teams in the playoffs, that's all that matters to me.

FWIW: Meyer has been getting crushed on local radio down here

Ohio State has had a top 5 recruiting class in every year that Urban has been here, we need to see this start to translate on the field. There's no excuse for the team to look as unprepared as they were last night. They didn't try to make a single adjustment all game long and that falls on the shoulders of Urban Meyer. You need to throw some stuff that takes less time to develop, especially when your offensive line is playing as bad as they were.

Loving the the OSU meltdown.......lol

So how long until Urban feels sick and starts missing his family again? lol

lol, missing your Heisman candidate QB and having a down year because of that is a "meltdown?"

How about UM losing 31-0 to Notre Dame and what that program has been for the last 7 years. I'd call that a meltdown..

This team is definitely built for 2015. The impact players are Sophomores and Juniors now. The line will have a year of experience. And most importantly, Braxton is back. Despite the horrible coaching last night, the horrible play from the line, WRs, etc...that game is easily a win if Braxton is playing. He really is a special player.

But to you and Akron's point, that was a horribly coached game last night, especially on offense. Good lord. There's no arguing that. And to not adjust at halftime? Pathetic. Honestly, I don't think Urban is all in this season. He was all in last season, and when Braxton went down I think he saw the writing on the wall with the oline being so shitty, the WRs being garbage, and JT being raw. Oh well. 9-3, 10-2 at best.

What is it you want to talk about exactly? You asked this same question in the MIller thread and then used things like the bowl ban to hint that you aren't all that happy with Urban Meyer. It's like your needling to say it hasn't been all that good while openly using events that are totally out of his control. So whats the aim here?

Yeah I dont actually think you understood/understand what I am saying at all, which is fine but don't act like you do if you don't.

How long will Meyer stay in Columbus? Are you satisfied with his tenure so far? Shouldn't we way better coaching from a guy who dominated the SEC and is now in an infinitely weaker conference with the same recruiting power and brand name at his disposal? I think these are all valid questions. I'm a huge Meyer fan and was trumpeting him to OSU more than a year before it actually happened. I'm still glad it did. But I'm not a homer and I am definitely a bit critical of some things, and his coaching in these games has not exactly been what I expected from Meyer to be honest. I could chalk this year, which I expect to be pretty ho-hum, up to youth and inexperience. But with the talent OSU is bringing in with Meyer at the helm there really is no excuse for this team to instantly go the way of the Unranked because they lost their QB, heisman candidate or not.

Oh, I loved it. Enjoyed every minute of that beat down too.

Dynamite input here.

EDIT: NAh, you know what, I'm just gonna answer you questions plainly since you decided to actually ask them.

Yes, I'm satisfied with what Urban has done. 23 wins in 25 games including an undefeated seasons and a BCS bowl. That's pretty solid in a guy's first two seasons.

I have no idea how long he plans on being here. No one does. I've seen nothing hinting at him wanting out so I don't even understand the point of asking a totally unanswerable question.

Urban did dominate the SEC, but you know what he never did? Dominate with a true freshman quarterback starting. Leak was an upperclassmen when Meyer got there and Tebow played back-up his 1st year behind Leak. It's a different animal. Note that Nick Saban has also dominated nothing at Alabama with a true freshman QB. He's had 3rd year guys, at minimum, the whole time.

Let's just get right at it. Are you happy with Urban Meyer and if not, what exactly are you not happy with? And if your expectations have not been met, what shortcomings are attributable to Meyer?

He is 1-3 in his last four games. 2 of them were his biggest games since coming to Ohio State and he has been outcoached undeniably in two of those losses (I haven't watched the Clemson game in full since I was hospitalized at the time, no desire to go back and watch a shitty loss, but I haven't heard anyone say he was out coached).

Am I happy with Urban? I'm moderately satisfied. I apologize that I can't absolutely say yes or no, but I think that describes my feelings the most. Regular season success is fun for a while but at Ohio State it will only get you so far. As a Buckeye fan, student, and alum I kind of expect more out of the football program ... especially with a guy like Meyer at the helm, a guy that has respect not just locally but nationally.

Yes, he's had the bowl ban to deal with, and yes, now he's had Braxton's injury to deal with. But why does the rest of the team seem so...mediocre? Even without Braxton, there really is not an excuse to lose to Virginia Tech and I challenge you to tell me there is.

I'm not jumping overboard. I think next year provided we are healthy going in and ready to roll, will be VERY telling. But that doesn't mean if we talk about it we're being spoiled or pessimistic. If you think everything is perfectly fine, fair enough, we can revisit next year. But in a year that looks like might be their second mediocre or worse in a 4 year period, what else are we going to break down?

I think there a two legitimate questions/observations at this point. You can have different views on them but they are worthy of debate.

1) In some of the biggest games, OSU has come up short. And unfortunately for fans, these have all come in a row. Throw out the Navy game and you have 3 consecutive losses against other good teams. Not exactly a good thing.

2) The team as a whole hasn't really improved. You can point to certain key players such as Braxton as being huge losses. This is accurate. But other aspects of the team are surprisingly bad for all the top recruiting. I mean I feel like we haven't had a legit WR in forever.

This would be the definition of expectations nearly impossible to meet. Two years, and one of those years was a bowl ban...and yet we're upset there hasn't been post-season success when there has literally been one damn chance at it. Holy cow.

And I'm sorry, but Braxton Miller being out IS a valid excuse. Go find teams that have huge success with true freshman quarterbacks. Its so damn rare. You can't just give it the ol' brush-aside. I'm not normally one for excuses, but when you lose your QB and have to put in a guy with zero experience behind a totally new offensive line...sorry, it's gonna look bad. It just is. Being Urban Meyer doesn't suddenly change the generally accepted norms of football. Inexperience at key positions gets you killed.

I just didn't expect Urban to be the next John Cooper.

Not quite ready to call him that yet, but if he doesn't have AT LEAST a Big 10 Title by the end of 2015...he's the new Cooper. Beats who he's supposed to (well minus Virginia Tech), recruits well, and loses every big game. Beating the bums of the Big 10 is pointless if you can't even win the goddamn conference.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy Urban is here and don't want to see him anywhere else. I still believe he will accomplish great things here. And not everything has been his fault. And no matter how well he coaches, this team is not near playoff caliber. Hopefully they can still at least compete for a conference title. But I think we all believed the program would have accomplished more by this point. If he doesn't have a conference title and/or a single bowl win by the end of 2015 it is going to be incredibly disappointing. Hell, it already is disappointing as is.
