The White Sox being the White Sox allow us to retake the lead.

Roberto Perez is consistently putting solid contact on the ball. Can't ask for much more out of a backup catcher.

Perez is a slow baserunner...I figured he'd be out as soon as they made the decision to send him home.

Watching Roberto Perez try to score there just made my night.

Scott Atchison has been a very pleasant surprise this season.

Well informed fans should know that the 90s wasn't going to be sustainable for a Cleveland team, but the drop off and lack of development from our draft picks is just insane.

Both Ramirez and Thome wanted to leave for the money, no big problem there. Both CC and Lee also wanted the money so Cleveland was forced to get something for them. The packages they got for them weren't the best. Brantley and it seems like Carrasco are the only two piece we got for 2 Cy young award winners. Martinez seemed like the most likely of the bunch to stay, but they did need to do a quick reboot after making the trades of the 2 pitchers.

Everyone should know that the Indians aren't going to be able to spend like Detroit. My biggest reason for hated Dolans are the fact that they said they would spend when the time was right. After the year we were one game away from the world series was perfect time to spend, yet they made jamey carroll their major free agent acquisition...

Thankfully with Shapiro taking a promotion, Antonetti and others have made major progress in scouting when it comes to what looks like hitting more frequently with draft picks. If Cleveland is going to be relevant more often they need to be more like Oakland. Spend when it makes sense and continue to develop your farm system. I know Oakland hasn't won anything recently, but they've had a much better opportunity than Cleveland.

A reply to a few things you said:

- I agree informed fans know the 90's wasn't going to be sustainable, but the average fan does not. The average fan says "they traded away all of the good players" - certainly you've heard that gem before

- The CC trade has turned out to be a fantastic trade for the Indians. Laporta was a bust, but Michael Brantley has become a star. The Tribe will end up with at least 10 seasons of Michael Brantley in exchange for three months of CC Sabathia. They don't get enough credit for that deal - it was a steal.

- If you're discussing the offseason after the 2007 season, you need to include the Indians' payroll jumped from $61.6 M in 2007 to $78.9 M in 2008. That's a pretty significant jump. You are correct in that they didn't sign many external free agents, but they did invest heavily in their own players - Sizemore, Hafner, Westbrook, etc. We can discuss whether those moves were good or not (injuries kind of derailed all three), but spending isn't limited to bringing in outside free agents. I'd also note the following offseason the Indians gave a two year, $22 M deal to Kerry Wood.

- Nothing against the A's - they maximize their assets - but they haven't had a much better opportunity than Cleveland. Over the last 10 seasons the Athletics have reached the Postseason three times, while the Indians have reached the Playoffs twice. The A's lost twice in the Division Series and got swept in their lone ALCS appearance. The Indians lost in the Wild Card matchup and lost in seven games in the ALCS. That may all change this offseason, but the A's haven't been as wildly successful as people make them out to be.

- "Spend when it makes sense and continue to develop your farm system." - We absolutely agree on this. Drafting killed the Indians for many years and it appears they may have finally turned the corner with some impact players as of late. They'll never buy a World Series title like the Yankees or Dodgers or Tigers, so player development is essential to having a shot at winning a championship. Let's hope the recent draft picks pan out and they continue to bring in impact players in future drafts.

Kansas City wins in the Bottom of the 9th with an Alex Gordon walkoff, two-run home run. Sure seems like everything is going the way of the Royals right now. Seattle's also up early - 2-0 in the 3rd.

Good for KC, I hope they take the division. This is their 'shot' with Shields probably gone in the offseason.

ZACH WALTERS WITH A MOONSHOT

8-6 TRIBE IN THE 10TH

Annnnd Zach Walters hits another bomb. We have the reincarnation/love child of Russell Branyan and Mark Reynolds. And I can live with that.

From the @Indians twitter account:

Of Walters' 6 HRs with the Tribe ...

+ 4 have given the team the lead
+ 2 have tied the game

Walters probably killed Hawk Harrelson with that bomb.

Uh oh, Allen not coming on for some reason. Wonderr what the issue is...
