2015 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Most of this board would have creamed their jeans to get Hundley had he entered the draft last year. Now a 2nd rounder for him is meh.

Don't think Petty will last until the 2nd round Boobs?

Nah, too little QB talent this year. I think he'll impress this off-season and get into the first somehow. Hundley might too, honestly.

I mean...it's December, though.

Who the hell knows, really.

I'd be cautiously ecstatic if DGB ends up in Cleveland. He runs pretty solid routes and looks at ease running after the catch. Also, it seems like he doesn't have too much of an issue with going over the middle, or catching the ball on any part of the field in general.

My concern is I don't know how the temptation of hitting the nightlife with Johnny/Josh will affect him. I'm afraid of the tone it might set for him. He has to come in here with something to prove.

DGB is so talented but after the Gordon fiasco along with the other knuckleheads I don't see the Browns giving him serious thought anywhere in the 1st round. They are going to come out and stress character and accountability this off season. That will be their mantra. If they pick DGB it will fly in the face of everything they talk about.

A timeline of his legal issues:

April, 2014 - Forced his way into a girls apartment after she tried to close the door on him. Girl fell down some stairs. Beckham alleges he was looking for his girlfriend. Girlfriend pressures the girl who fell down the stairs not to press charges.

No arrests made, Beckham voluntarily enters counseling. Dismissed from Mizzou.

January, 2014 - Arrested on suspicion of felony drug possession, where the car he was riding in was found to have roughly a pound of marijuana. Beckham fully cooperated, and was the only one of three to provide a DNA sample and cell phone records without a warrant.

Pretty sure this got thrown out as nothing. Still suspended from Mizzou.

2012 (freshman season) - Arrested for marijuana possession

Each of these incidents doesn't appear (to me, anyway) to be that much to be concerned with long-term. Together they form a pattern, which is definitely somewhat concerning.

But overall you have to trust the guy in the room to evaluate his character, evaluate what he's been doing for these last 15 months and make a judgement call from there.

At this point I still trust Farmer to do that.

I agree with you. Farmer has a difficult duty to evaluate DGB. As Phills said, it flies in the face of the character the Browns want; however, if DGB is motivated, Farmer can spin it as a guy having something to prove and the Browns feeding that desire...

The weed issues (I have no problem with weed itself) are concerning because they correlate with Josh Gordon and especially those who are around Josh regularly. DGB needs to make one bad decision while out with one of these guys and his good-will begins to crumble. It is a legitimate risk and something that will need to be focused on during the evaluation.

12: Davante Parker, WR, Louisville
19: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

I think Farmer has proven that he values talent and wants to build character on this team with veteran leadership (i.e. Whitner, Dansby, Kruger, Barnidge)

Crowell would be a prime example of this, as well. I think he understands value, and trusts Pettine to discipline his players and get them to stay in line.

I'm pretty interested in what Farmer has to say today. He's about to speak at 10 A.M. if anyone is interested.

I know youre very excited about DGB, boobie but there aren't a lot of indications coming out of Oklahoma that he is leaving. At least not yet

Bleacher Report (Matt Miller - updated 12/30):
12.) Cleveland Browns
The Pick: WR DeVante Parker, Louisville
The Cleveland Browns enter the 2015 draft with two first-round picks, and they're going to need both of them. And here's hoping the players they draft in Round 1 this year are ready to work.

Louisville's DeVante Parker is a worker, and the type of no-nonsense, high character wide receiver this team needs. Parker can replace Josh Gordon and give whomever the quarterback is a high-pointing threat who is successful working down the field or on intermediate routes. Parker can make money both after the catch or in the air—and that's what the team lacks without Gordon.

19.) Cleveland Browns
The Pick: DT Danny Shelton, Washington
With their second pick in the first round, the Cleveland Browns can turn an eye on improving the defensive line after a year in which the back eight on defense was more disruptive and more reliable than the front three.

Danny Shelton from Washington is a unique player in that he has the body type to handle the nose tackle position, but his movement skills are good enough that he can play on the edge of the line, too. Shelton would excel in a one-gap defense (where he's asked to simply stop or shoot one gap instead of two), but I see him make plays with strength that lead you to believe he can be a two-gapper if needed.

The Browns have a stout, stingy defense, but Shelton is the type of player that pushes them from very good to elite if he reaches his ceiling.

I really love Cooper. If, somehow, Gordon gets his shit together, he and Cooper would be dominate.

Of course, he won't be there at 12. Browns would need to move up to grab him, something I doubt Farmer does.

Farmer just made is abundantly clear that he values other positions far more highly than WR because of the lack of touches per game.

Take that FWIW.

But I can see this team moving forward with second day wide receivers, the second and third round is where good teams always seem to find crucial offensive weapons.

Maybe DGB will fall to the second? :chuckle:

But from what I just heard, I'm not mocking another WR to the Browns in the first round.

Doesn't value first round receivers, fell in love with Brandin Cooks.

I don't blame him. Look at:

AJ Green
Calvin Johnson
Julio Jones
Larry Fitzgerald
Andre Johnson

Not a single superbowl ring between the bunch. That's somewhat surprising to be honest, but it just illustrates that despite the flash and pizazz of the dominant receiver, they don't guarantee success.

I'd take a flier on Duron Carter if you could get him to sign here. Might be harder since he's trying to make a name for himself and we have no QB. Not the place you'd be thinking about going to as a receiver trying to begin your NFL career, especially since he'll have options. Money does talk though.

And then grab someone in the 2nd-4th round.

You could say this for 95% of players. Where have the Browns gone with the great Joe Thomas at LT? Revis has won a lot of Super Bowls...It's a team effort and WR is part of the puzzle. The Browns need a WR, especially if they get rid of Gordon. A WR may touch the ball 10 times a game, but he still has an effect on every offensive snap. You can dictate coverage and open up the game for other players.
