2015 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With the way things are shaping up at the QB position right now, I'm not sure it matters if we get a big time wr here.

Very few journalists agree with this statement. I know the PFF stats were positive for the receivers, but there was too much overlap in what they could do. We need options that aren't small, quick receivers who could only operate in space and blocking tight ends. Gordon, Cameron and Austin are the only guys who don't meet these descriptions and they all have HUGE question marks for next year. I can live with the position not getting addressed until the 2nd or 3rd round, but only if they plan to invest heavily in free agency or have trades lined up.

The opinion of journalists carries almost no weight for me.

I'm all for more diversity in the receiver core if the right options present itself. I'm not for taking a receiver with a limited ceiling because they're desperate for more diversity.

As far as this upcoming season is concerned, no it doesn't. But then again, it doesn't matter what players we bring in for next season period given the QB situation.

Daniel Jeremiah 2/25

12 - Danny Shelton
19 - Jaelen Strong

Mariota going 10th to St. Louis.

I mean Cooper or White could come into the league and suck ass. A la, Trent Richardson. People were saying he could run like AP. Fowler could come in and end up like Mingo. We have no idea how Parker is going to be. In my eyes, he has the potential to be a game changer, especially in the red zone.

Edit: So what is your opinion on Strong going 19 then..? Just wondering.

I like Strong, solid measurables to go along with a naturally large catch radius and OK natural catching ability.

Not sure I like him at 19 more than I like Perriman in the second round, but depending on the options available I'm OK with it.

Kevin White is a freak, there should be very little questions with him coming in. He's got a ceiling of a #1 player, I just don't see where Parker has that ability.

There is a growing belief Perriman is going to be off the board in the end of the 1st round, and he hasn't run his 40 or had his pro day yet. I would hate to see Seattle get their hands on him.

Just impossible to predict that back of the first/early second area anymore.

Last year we all knew Benjamin, Cooks, OBJ, Lee and JMatthews were right in that range. Think we'll see a similar circumstance this year.

There are even MORE guys in that range this year, I'm just not at all confident they are as talented.

I've been listening to a lot of scouts on air here in 49ers country, who are also very focused on wide receiver needs, and I keep hearing that last year was a special wide receiver crop and perhaps the best for that position of all time. However, just because last year was special, that doesn't change the fact this year is right up there for WR talent.

As for your comment that focuses solely on journalists, fine... I'm not hearing anyone in a position of expertise who comments on the Browns saying that the WRs are great. Coached up? Sure. Overachieving? Heard that too. Nobody with an objective view like Greg Cosell for example says they are set at the position, even before Gordon was suspended yet again. Post-Gordon suspension - which I'm sure surprised nobody - that situation hasn't improved yet. We agree that a monster offer is likely headed Cobb's way, but he would have to leave a very good situation in Green Bay to come here.

I'm not going to get into semantics.

Nobody ever called them "great." Nobody ever said they were set at the position.

They were simply not a big problem throughout most of the season, despite not having the "big name" in there.

It's not necessarily a situation that must be addressed early in the draft. If the right opportunity (Kevin White) presents itself, sure.

But I can't justify reaching on a guy just because the perception of need.

We aren't going to agree on the first part. On the second part I want to be clear: Nobody is arguing the virtues of a "big name". I am arguing in favor of players who the defense need to game plan against down the field, preferably with a better catch radius and physical presence than the Gabriel/Benjamin/Hawkins trio that drew 65% of the total pass attempts to wide receivers last season.

There was no QB on the roster to even gauge that properly, but Gabriel and Benjamin almost always seemed open down the field.

A few catch radius guys who could be of note later in the draft:

Dezmin Lewis - Central Arkansas - 6'4, 213
Tony Lippett - Michigan State - 6'2, 192
Chris Conley - Georgia - 6'2, 213
Jake Kumerow - UWW - 6'4, 200
Jordan Taylor - Rice - 6'5, 200
Devante Davis - UNLV - 6'3, 215
Kasen Williams - Wash. - 6'2, 220

I will happily ignore everything I hate about your post to gush about Chris Conley. Georgia is a run-first team that didn't really showcase Conley the way a pass-happy team would have used him. But here's a 6'2 guy who had a reputation as a bigger possession receiver who just busted out a 4.35 40 time and broke the combine record for vertical jump and broad jump. Who knows if he is just Carl Lewis in shoulder pads (not as much a football player as a freak athlete) but his hands and size were supposed to be his strength, not his Olympian athleticism.

Conley is squarely in the mix for me in round two.

Researched him after his combine breakout, and he's a really well spoken kid too. Leadership qualities jump out in interviews.

Parker reminds me of the guy out of Fresno from last year who went to the Packers. Good solid WR who could be awesome if we had a great QB.

I love the Shelton and Strong draft. Sign me up.
