2015 Draft Prospects

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm pretty sure I hated your obnoxious "moxie" posts so much that they made me start liking Manziel last year.

And boy did he show me. :chuckle:

His demeanor, behind the scenes stories, and even his vocabulary lead me to believe he's in the mold of a JaMarcus Russell

Getting into purple drank and having no motivation to improve after getting a giant contract was a lot more of the problem for him than not having a full deck of cards to play with.

I thought a lot of Cardale's comments after the championship game were pretty level headed by the way, so I don't know if he real is a complete air head. Yes, he's done and said some pretty immature stuff from time to time and I've heard that Urban sat him down with Ted Ginn, Sr. at one point to give him the shape up or ship out speech, but I do think the kid wants to be good and in the right situation will improve.

Ahh the classic "black quarterbacks must be compared to other black quarterbacks because they're black" argument. So damn lazy.

I mean let's not mince words. Do you think he's smart enough to be an NFL quarterback? Feel free to provide evidence that says otherwise, but I'm not so confident that he is.

His demeanor, behind the scenes stories, and even his vocabulary lead me to believe he's in the mold of a JaMarcus Russell as opposed to a Roethlisberger. But admittedly, I don't know enough about the guy to form an unequivocal opinion.

I don't have the means to figure this out but I would say the odds are against him. There's a big difference between general intelligence and football intelligence. I agree with you that the best football players score highly in both areas. A quick look at the 32 starting NFL quarterbacks and I would say they are all pretty overall, intelligent individuals.

We haven't had a good race war on the forums in a while. Someone unban Jayjay.

Also, if you noticed, I threw a white QB reference in there.

But if you'd like me to compare him to all of the unathletic, out of shape white guys in the league - I can do that too.

I'd pass on Jones if I'm the Browns. For one, his best hope for being successful is to land on a team with an established starter so he can be brought along slowly.

The main reason is that Johnny has made me forever risk averse to QBs with subpar work ethic. It’s not just that tweet of his; Urban has called out his work ethic and maturity pretty much the entire time he’s been at OSU. It is absolutely possible that he’s turned it around in the last month or two but there’s WAY too much history on the other side for me to believe it completely. And in regards to his tweet, succeeding at QB in the NFL is pretty much like school. If he’s not going to dedicate himself to study and learning, he’s lost. Does he seem like the kind of guy who is going to put the time in?

Sure, he has crazy physical tools but there’s a mountain of busts behind him in the past that had similar tools and didn’t put the work in. I can think of plenty of QBs who worked hard and made themselves better than what they should’ve been based on physical ability alone. How many can you think of that were immature slackers and still thrived?

Even Jones has said he doesn’t think he’s ready and Urban doesn’t either. He’s just coming out because of his unique circumstances and good for him striking while the iron is hot. Just keep him away from Cleveland. We need a guy with both the physical tools AND the work ethic to grow into them. Cardale Jones just isn’t that guy IMO.

I'd like to hear where the basis of Cardale being "un athletic and our of shape" is from? Because I haven't seen that from him.

That's my point... He's not comparable to many white, out of shape QBs. He is, however, comparable to Ben, Newton, Russell, and others - many of whom are black.

Binkster has plenty of black friends, too. So you KNOW he's not racist.

Cardale is a big dude. I'm not worried about his measurables or arm strength, but rather what's going on in his head. Three games is nice, but it doesn't allow anyone to adjust to his style of play, nor does it show how he reacts when his tendencies are figured out.

One thing about Cardale I do know.. He can get the ball where he wants to get it in a hurry.

It makes a lot more sense to me if Braxton Miller declares for the draft because scouts have film on him. If Cardale Jones declares he is going to start getting picked apart on his flaws. When it comes to pulling the trigger on a QB in the first two days, a front office doesn't want the hottest name, they want a track record. This is the highest his stock will ever be, and it is looking like round 5-7 if at all.

and it is looking like round 5-7 if at all.

I really disagree. Desperate teams talk themselves into a QB like Cardale way more than they talk themselves out of him.

Should he go high? Nope. But will he? Definitely.
