Cardale>JT As NFL QB
JT>Cardale As NCAA QB

JT's talents are better suited for UM's system. While I love Cardale, he lost himself some money forgoing last years draft.

Saying a guy doesn't have the brain to be a great NFL QB is a far cry from saying he's stupid, but I'll roll with it. Cardale is not cerebral at all. He's a big guy with a big arm. NFL offenses aren't going to have him throwing 40 yard bombs a dozen times a game, either, you know. If he has to throw it deep to be good- and nothing we've seen this season says that is even true- then he doesn't have what it takes to be a great NFL QB.
Also not what I said.

I know. I'm piggybacking off of jking who said Cardale would be a great NFL QB. I don't agree. If all he can do is throw deep, he won't have NFL success either.

Lot easier to play with an accurate QB with a weak arm than it is an inaccurate QB with a strong arm. I don't know how Cardale is going to succeed in the NFL if he can't make simple, short throws.

Does JT even have a weak arm? Feel like I've seen him make some very nice long NFL caliber throws last year. (I assume you were just making a point)

And I don't think Barrett is going to be an NFL QB either, but when you see Cardale miss Braxton wide open for an easy first down and then the next series throw a yard behind Thomas on a 5 yard slant, I dunno. he's definitely not an early round pick at this point.

I think Barrett's arm strength is good enough to be a #2 QB in the right system in the NFL. That's his upside.

Cardale's already has an above average NFL arm. But he could also never make a roster.

He looked almost unbearably bad. I'm not sure I could have watched the whole game if he stayed in. Too Browns-esque.

I mean, he was 9/15. His rushing stats were ass, but blame that somewhat on Urban not realizing he's 250lbs.

Cardale's been fine for the most part, just sucked in the redzone. JT's been great in the redzone, and can get us there as easily, it seems.

I kind of knew someone was going to bring up 9/15 after I heard Urban use it to defend him. :chuckle:

Rich was right, he missed wide open first downs, threw behind guys on multiple occasions, and the offense stalled in red zone with him in.

Won't disagree that the gameplan in no way supports him. I've been questioning that for weeks.

Like I said, he's been "fine". 9/15 for 82 is generally "fine". And given the way he's been used, "fine" is actually an accomplishment.

But I guess in there is kinda the point when talking about Cardale's unique talents and how he should be the starter and the offense be made to fit him.

If his talents don't include being an accurate short to medium range passer, then I have no idea why any offense should be catered to him when there is a perfectly acceptable player in Barrett ready to run the standard Urban offense.

It'd be one thing if Jones was slinging the ball around like Andrew Luck. Then maybe it makes sense to get away from the read-option and do things that better fit him. But if it's deep throws or nothing, then that's not a player worthy of molding everyone else to.

I'm not a football expert by any means, but this team is simply just so much better with Barrett at QB.

If we had threats like Smith, Spencer, and Heuerman still on this team, I could see where people could justify Cardale, but it's not even a debate anymore as far as I'm concerned.

I'll tell you what stat is not fine .. us being unable to get fucking points with him at QB. lol.

We scored over 30 points in every game he started, save 1.
