2015 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
what's the value of a Naquin in a trade, is he considered a small "piece" or just more of a "filler"

Think the Carrasco rumors were real? Really, really against moving a SP - and especially Carrasco. I don't think the offense is so broke that they need to kill the SP depth to fix it.

Also sort of wonder if guys like EGon, Bradley, JRam, RPerez, Kaminsky have any value. Wonder if you could put together a package that didn't include Frazier/Bradley and still get something decent in return. Probably a pipe dream.

Absolutely real.

The guys you listed just don't have the clout a guy like CC does in terms of acquiring ready talent on a long-term deal.

CC does, so that's where the pieces start to fit together. I'd hate to lose him, but this organization has a reputation for developing pitchers. It will rely on that to recover.

Filler.

Not a guy you're building the deal around.

Yeah like I said before - I'm not sold that the offense is so broke that you need to move a SP to fix it.

Just seems like this year being so healthy is an anomaly - if you trade CC and suffer just one injury in the rotation, suddenly they are REALLY thin. And while they are good at developing pitchers, we don't have anyone very close to MLB level right now.

Not sold that they need cost-controlled long-term bat. I've seen Josh Reddick thrown out - wonder if they could get someone more short-term as they wait for guys like Zimmer and Frazier to come up.

And then he hits #15 a few innings later
Frazier has taken a quantum leap forward in the second half. OPS up 250 points to .989, however he hasn't been launching more HRs but putting up much better ABs. Best part, he has cut down on his Ks big time, with a 33/38 walk/Ks in 48 games since the break. Really cool to see.

Does Bobby Bradley and/or Nellie Rodriguez have a legitimate MLB future? Can they co-exist?

Might want them to get to AA before we worry about that. Bradley looks like a beast but has work to do on his Ks before he moves much faster (already at full season at 19 is pretty quick anyway). Nelly is a big guy but have to see how he handles what is arguably the biggest jump in the minors (high A to AA). So far he is struggling. Enough hard throwing guys in AA that we will see if he has the bat speed.

Crazy thing about his HR #'s, for me at least since I've been following the minors all year long, was that it took him a month to hit #1. I remember articles came out early on in the minor league season asking where his power went. I think he should rise up to the top 30 in the various prospect rankings if he keeps this up for the rest of the season, but I'm biased. Hard to think he is still just 20, too, and doing this in a very pitcher friendly league.

If he keeps this up he should move way up the rankings, he has been raking. Can't see anything not to like- I'll have to try and dig up his sacrifice bunt numbers.

I think his development of pitch recognition has really allowed him to become a real well-rounded hitter. He used to be an extreme pull hitter, like most kids, just trying to crush fastballs out of the park. But now, his willingness to see a pitch a little longer, lay off it or drive it into RF, will allow him to really tap into that power with his 80 bat speed-- I truly haven't seen a reputable scouting report that said he doesn't have 80 bat speed, which is crazy. Cutting down his strikeouts by 51 thus far is also a really great development, could you imagine if Bobby Bradley has that jump in development next season?

I imagine Bradley will get better at spreading his hits around like Frazier has this year (he actually has 5 HRs from left-center to left this season, compared to just 1 in Arizona last year), but it is hard for me to imagine him cutting down the Ks significantly next year in Carolina. I don't mind the Ks, what I do mind is the drop in extra base hits that aren't HRs he has had this year. He had 13 2B is 39 AZL games last year...he just got to 13 2B tonight in his 92nd game tonight. The Ks aren't going to be his next step progression that I want to see (though it would be nice), but turning more of his flyball outs into 2Bs, which will come with being more selective at the plate and doing exactly what you said Frazier has been doing that has led to his jump, becoming a more well-rounded hitter. If he can get up to 30 2Bs and continue his 25+ HR pace in the minors the next few season, he'll be a .950-1.000+ OPS guy, which is special.

Fangraphs Kiley McDaniel In-Season Prospect update:

Bradley Zimmer checks in at #21
Clint Frazier checks in at #26

It's a different setup than a straightforward prospect list because he has a couple of lists: a 'top-26' list for current players in the minors (Zimmer and Frazier both made it), a 'not in the MiLB top-200 before 2015' list, 'draft/July 2 signings 2015 debut' list and a 'graduated prospect list 2015'-- Lindor was 6th (sandwiched between Pederson and Sano, ahead of Russell) and Roberto Perez was 37th (sandwiched between Foltynewicz and Robbie Ray).
