2015 NBA Offseason Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What a waste. They went from having three dynamic point guards (including an All-NBA 3rd Teamer) to probably moving them all.

What exactly are they doing in Phoenix? Last year, this was a team on the brink of playoff contention. This year, they took a couple steps back. Do they have an actual plan in place there, or...?
They fucked up by signing Thomas. Hence why they moved on so fast. The 3rd guard can literally be any young pg in the nba. Idk why they decided to pay another starting pg when money is needed to improve the test of the mediocre roster. Too many ok pieces, not enough great pieces.

Right, but I think the point is that the franchise tag simply wouldn't apply to a player like Tristan.

You're right. He's not good enough as a player to expect a full 5 year max.

Huh?

Miami's deal is not better. Not remotely.

Valuing the additional year means you want more guaranteed money. 85/4 is more guaranteed money than 80/5. But I think since we're getting down to the nitty gritty, it's important to note that these values are first-year approximations, they're not counting raises.

Goran's true max contract over 4 years is 94.35 @ 7.5% raises and 90.9 at 4.5% raises, not 85M. The same can be said for Miami's offer, which would likely include the 7.5% raises as well, but the starting value difference of $5M+ plays into this.

Again, if Goran were S&T'd, the difference in value (including state tax differential) is $19.87M (given: MIA S&T'd to LAL) over 4 years. That's actually more money than the additional year Miami is offering. If Goran gets a 3+1 deal with a player option in year 4, he'd be 32 years old under a $108M cap looking for a 3 year extension in 16-20M range.

The 5 year deal at 80M is not good value for him.

The 85/4 number is what was being tossed around the media, including the article I originally posted, so that's what I went with.

Obviously it would be better to have 85/4 than 80/5, which as I said in my first post was strange for Miami to take their one big chip (being able to pay him more than anyone else) off the table.

The whole reason I brought the tax thing is was because they always gets thrown out there for any free agent that signs in either Florida or Texas, but I hadn't actually done the math. I was just saying that I could see Miami trying to make that argument along with the "sacrifice" to be on a winning team argument.

I gotcha...

And you're right, that's going to be Riley's pitch.. "sacrifice." But that's a hard sell on a guy who has no allegiance with the team, especially when you're busy low-balling not only him, but the franchise player.

IF you were GM we wouldn't have traded Wiggins, we get it.

Of course if you were GM you'd also have kept Dion Waiters on the team and we'd have never sniffed the Finals so.........

I would have picked Drummond... so we would probably have traded him for Klove and Kept wiggins?

You really think Vlade just told them to f off? Me thinks there's more to this. If anyone would appreciate Vucevic in a 3 team deal, it would be Vlade. Bill Simmons mentioned a trade like this on one of his last podcasts IIRC.

Can't wait for the draft, definitely expecting some shit to go down.

Just hoping D'Angelo is drafted by anyone other than Philadelphia.

No they will take another big again, Seeing as Minny is all on Towns right now that leaves Okafor. I think the 76ers want the all time potential big men in a NBA that proves you only need one real center to win a ring.

Well, Philly may not get the opportunity to take Okafor...

Oh yeah that is right I am forgetting the draft order now... Doh. Do you think this Russell to L.A stuff is legit? I been so blinded by it I thought it was a lock.

Porzingis actually makes a lot of sense for them as he pairs nicely next to Noel. If Embiid comes back healthy, they can always move one eventually for a guard.

I really think Cousins to the Lakers makes sense. If the Kings can get Randle, #2, and maybe Clarkson in a deal...you absolutely do it.

If they keep the 6th pick, thats an additional piece as well.
