Exactly. It's like the Bro's on the Tribe who went champagne and glasses after the clinched the PLAY IN GAME. We can agree to disagree on this.
I don't even mind the play-in game celebration, we had a lot of guys tasting the postseason for the first time ever. Why does everybody have to be so anti-fun? Let people enjoy stuff.

Hell no, I still get goosebumps over the celebrations, because I still remember how it felt when the Indians in '95 got to do it over their clinched births, series wins, etc...

Those are the best memories of winning.

It's a great feeling. Why not celebrate?

Who do you guys think will win the Jays vs Royals series? As a Royals fan, I got a bad feeling. Both teams are riding pretty high right now though. Royals were looking pretty bad other than the last two games but they might have got some momentum back like they did last year from coming from behind to win. Astros were a great test.

I think whoever wins between the Jays and Royals will go on to win the WS.

Hopefully the Dodgers lose. I don't like the Dodgers and I don't even really know why. Maybe because their salary cap isn't even fair.

Anyone else think it's a bit ridiculous for these teams to celebrate winning the DS like they just won the World Series? I mean, champagne and goggles? If you win the pennant or the WS, fine, but c'mon.

No. Let them enjoy the moment. Every team has been doing that for a while now. The Cavs did that when they won the ECF.

Let them enjoy the moment. You would be doing the same.

I'm looking forward to when the Cavs win the championship. I'll be screaming and crying tears of joy. And the adrenaline probably won't let me sleep for a week.

Another thing in baseball is that the "best team" doesn't always win. There are hardly any dominant teams and few teams make the playoffs. In a baseball playoff series, anyone can win (both AL series went 5 games; the underdog Cubs won and the other NL series went 5 games), so its not comparable to say, the Cavs getting one of 8 playoff spots, or them celebrating after sweeping a ho-hum Celtics team. Its really hard to make the playoffs in baseball and there are a lot of variables each game. Definitely makes advancing through that mess a bit sweeter.

Id say the same is true for football. I was going to say its true for any sport but in the nba there seems to be considerably less parity.

Oh yeah. Baseball and football are the only sports where you can have "wild card" caliber teams make, and win, a championship...Who is the last 7 or 8 seed to make it to the NBA Finals? 98 Knicks? And even then, they were only the 8 seed due to injuries early on in their season.

I didn't have a problem with it. The catcher's foot was just coming off the plate as he hit him.

Utley's slide was late, high, and made no attempt to tag the base.
Lol Pompey's legs were nowhere near the plate- Jimenez was well in front of the plate, Pompeys slide was only to try and take him out when the C was no longer in the plate. The replay is obvious. MLB needs to act, the catcher did exactly what he was supposed to so to avoid a collision and injuries. Pompey was intentional.

Catcher becomes an infielder the moment when he steps on the plate for a force out...the Posey Rule no longer applies or protects them, and it is just like a play at any other base....what Pompey did was no different than a normal slide at 2nd to break up a double play (not even close to what Utley did)...he didn't slide late and he was still in reaching distance of the plate...no way he gets in trouble.

His hip crossed the plate, that's basically what he's supposed to do in that situation.

So it is perfectly fine, then, for someone to slide over 1b like that and take out the 1b then? As long as the hips cross the bag then it doesn't matter? Interesting.

If he did it to break up a potential double play, yes.

If he did it with nobody on, he'd:

1. Look dumber than Lord Mar consistently appears on this board.
2. Be suspended for few games.

You realize you are comparing a single force out to a potential double play, right? You can't be that naive, can you...

What happened between Pompey and Gimenez happens multiple times over the course of every game at 2nd base on double play chances...

If he slid late, like Utley, couldn't reach the base on his slide, or broke out of his established baseline in order to break up the play, I'd agree with you...that wasn't the case though, so your bitching and moaning over a clean play is just that, bitching and moaning.

I don't think anybody else in baseball was cooler than Joey Bats at such a moment
