2016 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Issue here is, Toronto's GM is already on the outs (contract up in October), and a new President of Ops would be the nail in the coffin. Shapiro is either going to poach Antonetti or Chernoff...it just makes too much sense.

That also means:

1) Toronto would have to ante up for not just Shap, but for both.

2) Antonetti would likely be walking away from a promotion/raise here in order to go there with the same position (I can't see us just letting him walk)

Just thinking out loud... Maybe the Tribe could so some serious poaching of the Red Sox org since they are about to turn over? One thing they know how to do is draft: 7 of their top 12 picks from 2011 are on their roster. The Sox, to me, are one of the best drafting teams in the game. Might behoove them to steal from there if change is a'comin...

If they move away from the Indians "tree," I'd be looking HARD at Jerry DiPoto in some front office capacity. He's cut from the same cloth as the current regime.... Scioscia and Moreno did everything they could to make sure he couldn't do his job properly in Anaheim.

I just don't buy Antonetti automatically leaving if Shap does..
We are Cleveland fans, MoFlo... When the Browns President leaves, the whole village burns...

In all seriousness, any new prez will want his own guy. Look at how Cherington walked away in Boston. Anton would b a lame duck. Lame duck vs. Join your bud in Deeppocketsville. Kind of a no brainer. And like I said not sure Antonetti wants to hang up his baseball decisions cleats yet for a prez gig.

Uh... You know Jerry was a former Tribe farmhand, right? Pretty sure Shapiro drafted him. He seems a little divisive to me, tho. Butted heads in Anaheim and AZ. I'm open to the idea tho.

Edit: nah, Dipoto was 89, Shapiro wasn't even in the org yet.

I'm not quite sure he would want to go away of the baseball aspect of running an organization at such a young age and with so few years under his belt as a GM, if by promotion you mean he becomes the new President of Operations. I don't think he would be up for it, nor would I think he would be promoted by Dolan.

And I honestly think Dolan would let him walk...don't know why, but I feel like he would want to bring in his own guys since he has yet to do so, which I'm guessing is what worries b00bie if this was to happen, and should worry a lot of us.

Meh, I don't think he'd be a "lame duck" in the least bit, especially if they want to keep Tito happy.

What I meant was they could always add a title to Antonetti (not sure if he has a title besides GM currently) without taking him away from baseball decisions, not to mention give him a significant raise.

There is always the possibility the Indians being in a 'business only' type of President who focuses more on business.

If Antonetti is in fact that entrenched.

I don't understand the worry for losing Francona. He's a fucking baseball coach. He is a figurehead.

IDGAF one way or the other if the FO is blown up. They certainly haven't done much to keep their jobs, but who's out there that's definitely better?

Cause he takes Callaway with him if he takes another job...he has been huge in developing our pitching.

I actually buy that a pitching coach makes a difference. It's hard to say how replaceable a pitching coach is or isn't.

Like I said, IDGAF either way. Anybody that's coached in the MLB will win the same amount of games Francona would with the same team. The development of the pitchers would be a concern.

Uh... You do realize theyv would be leaving to take jobs elsewhere, right? At a raise? They clearly did enough to get another team to happily buy in. The Indians also are not a team that is so bad it needs a complete overhaul of the FO, so pardon actual fans from not wanting to see that happen. This isn't Berea, quit acting like it.

You think it's bad now? Oh, but it can get much much worse. We have quite a few well respected guys running the baseball side of things, believe it or not.

I'd make Callaway manager before letting him walk.

So would I...but would the new GM/President of Operations? The threat of him leaving is there if Tito leaves and still wants to manage, I think we can all agree on that being the absolute worst case scenario.

Who's saying this is Berea? These guys have had time to prove themselves and the results have been weak.

It's not like it's been two years.

Just because one team liked a guy enough to pay him and a second team liked the guy enough to pay him more a few years later doesn't mean that guy is irreplaceable.

What are you so happy with that this FO has done?

Respected or not respected, they haven't done much.

Like I said, I truly don't care. I could just see the move being made and not panicking about it or thinking it was egregious.
