Wait...have people been considering Joe Biden likeable this entire time?

I thought he made everyone else's skin crawl like mine.

He's Jackie the Jokeman.

And this man's supposedly going to save the Democrats since Hillary can't keep her nose clean.

That's more believable than him actually standing on his tip toes to appear taller in a photo op with a million cameras on him.

I mean, really?

Supposedly, there are two times he did this. Both are right before pictures were snapped, not any other time when people were hobnobbing on the stage. Not only that, but he'd already pointed out to Trump in the debate exactly where his wife was sitting, so he already knew where she was. And being the tallest guy out there already -though only slightly taller than Trump - he shouldn't have had any problem seeing her.

Regardless, it's fun to make fun of him. For the guy who was supposed to be the packaged, serious, perfect candidate of the Establishment wing of the party, he looks incredibly uncomfortable in these debates.

You know what I want them to do is make it so voting online is an option, the turn out would be record breaking. I am aware of the pitfalls but they also could do away with a lot of them if planned correctly.

In a day where we can literally do almost any transaction online It is time for this to move forward.

I'm aware this is controversial, but...why exactly do we want to make it so easy to cast a vote other than in person?

I'm not in favor of artificial impediments to voting, and I'm down with making polling places accessible, extended hours, even limited early voting.

But if someone can't even be bothered to get off their ass and vote in person, exactly how engaged are they? Because if the goal is expanded turnout, we're not just talking about making it more convenient for people who'd vote anyway. We're talking about people who wouldn't vote unless it is online. And WTF is up with that?

There's the obvious issue of actual electronic hacking/fraud that you mentioned. But leaving that aside, what I really worry about is not fraud, but "voting by proxy", where people who don't really care will simply give their sign-in information to friends who do, essentially letting political activist types cast multuple votes.

Or even actual vote selling. I mean, if someone can't be bothered to vote in person (and we know that's upwards of 100 million people, especially in non-presidential years) why wouldn't a significant number sell their sign-in info for $50 or $100 to someone who really does care? And I think it would be naive as hell to think there wouldn't be a lot of people who'd be willing to do that.

Again, I'm in favor of making in-person voting more accessible. But I think we actually need to cut back on absentee voting.

ETA: one more thing. No matter what precautions are taken to prevent hacking, a very large number of people won't ever believe that it is truly secure. And that's going to destroy whatever residual confidence still exists in the reliability of results.

Great idea, I'd sell my vote. Let's get this plan in action, I could use some extra beer $$ for the first weekend of November 2016.

Literally everything you said suggested could be done with electronic voting could be done with voting in person. They already show voter fraud every single election.

I bank online, I go in to a bank maybe once a year. I pay all my bills online, all of them. Its funny cause I even met my wife online in 1995. I am more engaged in my own pocket book than I am any election yet I still vote. Just making it easier to do for more people doesn't mean they aren't engaged. Honestly I think your showing your age here.

Why does the thought of making it easier to vote scare people?

Because voting in person is a pain in the ass for most people. I mean I can see where you're coming from, but I've voted absentee in most elections (including off-presidential years) and I'm an educated voter. Having that option , imo, makes it inexcusable to not participate in the process.

I hadn't really put much thought into it but I agree with this. If you can't register as an absentee or drive to vote for the President of the United States of America, that's a problem. I know not everyone has cars, then vote absentee.

The way it is now is just enough of a PITA where I like it. I agree with 1 vote/person, but if you can't be bothered to show a little, I don't mind if you have to sit out for 4 years to learn your lesson.

Why does the thought of making it easier to vote scare people?

Because the people you'd be making it easier for are probably voting Democrat. :chuckle:

And I totally agree. Do you know how much easier my life would be if I could vote on my phone, or from my laptop? Plus, my voting station is in the ghetto and it's scary.

It's just not that simple.

Why should voting be a "PITA?" Why shouldn't it be an engaging process?

Why shouldn't we be more democratic by design?

You realize the United States has one of the absolute lowest voter turnout records in the developed world? That's shameful.

The idea also isn't logical because in this country not everyone is given the day off to vote like they should be.

And why is there a problem with early voting and same-day registration? That makes zero sense.

These artificial impediments to voting are solely designed to keep people disengaged.
