2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Carlos wants to stay - I believe if the Indians make a reasonable offer we will keep him.

“I love it here,” said Santana, acquired by the Indians from the Dodgers on on July 26, 2008. “This is my home. I love Cleveland. They gave me the opportunity to play in the big leagues, to play every day.”

He calls Progressive Field, “My house. Everybody knows me and I know everybody here.”

But just how free agency unfolds for the Santana and the Indians is a mystery.

“This will be tough for me after the season, but I’m going to have to make a hard decision about my career,” said Santana. “I love it here. I don’t want to go anywhere. Everybody knows. My teammates know. The front office knows. But that’s not something I can control.”

Essentially if we and another team put up about the same offer then he will resign in Cleveland, but if someone else offers up a fair amount more he will sign elsewhere. Let’s see how the bidding goes for Santana!

So basically he’s gone.

I'd be more concerned with the amount of years another team may offer than per year. Think we can compete with anyone at 3 years or less but not sure at any 4-5 year offers.

I could definitely see Carlos taking slightly less to stay here, as long as it's close.

It just worries me that we are hearing about all of this interest in Carlos, and not hearing as much about the other high end FA's. Although there's a good chance that it's just a product of Santana's agent doing a better job at drumming up competition through the media.

I actually wouldn’t write him off being back, the Indians will put up a good offer, the question is how much is a team going to overpay to get him? Cleveland will give him 15mil or so a season to be back with about 3 years or so. If we don’t keep Santana it will be because others offered a lot more money per season/more years

If we're thinking about giving Santana a significant contract (as we should) I would certainly hope he has interest from other teams. I'd expect Carlos' agent to gather offers and then go back to the Indians and see how close they can get to the top one. Then it's ultimately up to Carlos.

I'm not paying top-of-the-market prices for anyone, especially a corner. That's not how a mid-market team wins. I wish him well, bit the DPOY award really sealed the deal.

Anybody ready to talk themselves into losing Santana and Bruce and how the offensive production won't drop off? Brantley and Kipnis could be trending downwards as players for all we know. As much shit Santana took, we'll miss the hell out of him. I really don't wanna lose him knowing we have a shot at a World Series with him.
