2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
1. DeShone Kizer - Notre Dame
2. DeShaun Watson - Clemson
3. Luke Falk - Wazzu
4. Cooper Rush - CMU
5. Mitch Trubisky - UNC / Brad Kaaya - UM

Good list. There's only three guys I'm really considering early.

1. Deshaun Watson - Unpopular opinion having him No. 1 perhaps, but I'm still high on him. The most experienced of the top QBs eligible; gonna finish his career with 34-35 starts and something like 31-32 wins. He's set to graduate in December. There's a lot to like: poise, short memory on negative plays, high-level success, high-level experience, athleticism, arm talent.

Doesn't mean he's a perfect prospect. Completion percentage is down significantly from last year which is a red flag -- although I think some of that can be attributed to Clemson throwing a lot less screens and a lot more deep balls than a year ago. There are general concerns with his accuracy overall - specifically at the intermediate level - which is frightening, but his TD to INT ratio is actually up from this same point last year.

I also really hate the Clemson offense. Not only is it a limited progression spread, but I loathe the Cam Newton/Tim Tebow-like QB battering ram running plays the Tigers call so many times every game.

2. DeShone Kizer
- Great size, great arm strength, plenty of athleticism. Really intriguing combo of raw tools to build from, but I think it's going to take a lot of time. I think Kizer's mechanics need a lot of work plus he has that slow windup motion.

Perhaps most fascinating of all to me is how harshly Kizer is going to be judged on the fact his team is very likely going to end the year under .500.

In the last 20 years, there has not been a single QB drafted in the top 10 coming off a losing college season. There have only been four QBs drafted in the first round period coming off a losing year (Josh Freeman, Jay Cutler, J.P. Losman and Patrick Ramsey).

I'm not putting the blame solely on Kizer because it's not all his fault, but I'm curious how much the critics hold it against him.

3. Mitch Trubisky
- Another guy like Kizer with the size, arm talent and athletic ability to really be something at the next level. Unfortunately, he's even less experienced. If he declares, he'll end his college career with like something like 13 starts. A ridiculously gimmicky offense doesn't help matters. Just a guy that isn't even close to being ready for the NFL.

Great argument.

What haven't they tried since 99 that they need to try?

Full tank mode when it's a strong QB draft.

If the Browns sit atop the draft come the off-season, Myles Garrett is simply the only logical choice.

Game-changing talent. Every game.

Better than Von Miller as a prospect, for me. One of the best pure pass rushing prospects to ever come into the draft.

For me, it's between him and Julius Peppers for best of the last 25 years.

Javon Kearse comes to mind as a Julius Peppers level prospect as a pass rusher.

In terms of immediate NFL impact, for sure.

As a prospect though, there were questions about his game and he wasn't even considered the top overall player at his position.

B/R

1--Cleveland Browns--Myles Garrett-DE--Texas A&M
21--Cleveland Browns (from PHI)--Mitch Trubisky-QB--North Carolina

Would not mind that. If we decide to skip on Watson/Kizer/maybe even Kaaya, then taking Trubisky there I wouldn't be pissed at. Honestly, hopefully Kessler keeps showing promise, especially when we get an extra weapon back in Coleman. Then we don't have to take a QB in the 1st and focus on getting one in the 2nd-4th.

Now, if the mock went like that, we still could of had our pick between Raekwon, Tabor or Foster.

***Also, I am saying this about Kessler b/c of the 2018 QB class. I am not saying stick with Kessler forever. Unless he just starts fucking balling out.

As I wait patiently to Game 3 tonight, I'll kill some time with my first mock of the year.

Hoping to put some guys on Browns fans radar (links included for tape):

1 (1) - Myles Garrett - OLB - Texas A&M - Has a chance to be the best pure pass rushing prospect of the last 25 years. His hands at the point of attack, athleticism off the edge, character and toughness are all at an elite level. He's a day one performer who can be among the best at his position early in his NFL career.

1 (21) - Malik Hooker - FS - Ohio State - There are a number of good S prospects this year (Jamal Adams, Marcus Williams, Eddie Jackson, Budda Baker). Hooker is the best athlete of the bunch, and despite his inexperience shows great instincts and range in the run and passing game.

2 (32) - Zach Cunningham - LB - Vanderbilt - Relentless athlete who finds the ball and makes plays all over the place. He's a leader, a future captain on defense who will patrol the middle.

2 (47 - TEN) - Bucky Hodges - TE - Virginia Tech - Incredible athlete and former QB who VT has used at the Wildcat this year. He's 6'6+ and while not a great blocker, certainly has a good mechanics base to grow into one. For a young, developing QB, he'd be a nice weapon to have.

3 - (65) - Conor McDermott - OT - UCLA - Might be a natural LT, but would be the heir apparent to Joe Thomas as he eases into the NFL at RT. Great feet and shows solid drive and catch in pass protection. Long arms and good size, which seems to be what the new Browns are looking for from a size bucket perspective.

3 (CompA) - Tyrone Crowder - OG - Clemson - This is a massive dude with a nasty streak run blocking. Somewhere in the 330-pound range with good feet that can just move Earth.

4 - Da'Shawn Hand - DL - Alabama - Former number one overall recruit, he's likely to enter the draft a bit earlier than he should. First round talent who hasn't necessarily played like it.

4 (PHI) - Kevin King - CB - Washington - Huge corner (6'3, 210) with long arms and great athleticism for his size. Hips are a little stiff, more of a developmental guy with a huge ceiling than he is a finished product. But he's flashed major potential on a sick UDub defense filled with talent.

4 (CompB) - Elijah Hood - RB - UNC - Runs so hard and always seems to drag people forward for extra yardage. Impressed with his lateral quickness through the hole.

4 (CompC) - Ryan Switzer - WR - UNC - Matchup nightmare. Short area quickness and great burst. He's a guy who will have a few set plays to get the ball in his hands. Elite route running skills, always open. One of my favorite players in this draft.

5 - Fabian Moreau - CB - UCLA - Couldn't find a good video, but he's got really good size and quickness. Offers good depth at CB with a chance to develop into more, much like King.

5 (NE) - Erik Magnuson - OL - Michigan - Multi-year starter and versatile lineman who could play a number of positions. Added depth.

5 (Comp) - Wes Lunt - QB - Illinois - Don't think the QB class is all that special, but you'd like to take a developmental guy with the added picks acquired. Lunt has all the arm strength you'd want, good size and a lot of experience.

6 - Davon Godchaux - DL - LSU - This dude should be so much better than he is. I don't know whether he just doesn't give a shit, or actually sucks, 3-4 plays a game you think you're watching a Top 10 guy. This year he just looks slow and disinterested.

7 - Jamal Marcus - OLB - Akron - Dismissed from OSU for some things, but is a hell of a pass rusher. Hell of an athlete, worth it to bring him in and see what he's got.

Would cream at Garrett/Trubisky in the 1st round.

Switzer is awesome, I don't see him lasting to the 4th though with this weak WR class. Would love to get him to presumable replace Hawkins though. Marcus will be taken much earlier than round 7. Straight beast. My guess is 3-4. He tried playing through a shoulder injury the first few games and then finally called it quits, so his lack of good senior tape may hurt him.

God I would love Malik Hooker in the back half of the first. He's just so natural from coming up to stop the run to getting great jumps on passing routes. Unbelievable athlete with sportscenter dunks in HS too. He's the perfect complement to our young safeties who profile more as near the LoS types.

Glad to see I'm not the onl Hood fan; UNC has a nice little bevy of skill position talent

Garrett, Hooker, and Hodges? I'd do unforgivable things to see those three in Browns uniforms. Love the Hand, Hood, and Switzer picks as well.

A lot of drafts I am seeing in the past few weeks have us taking King with our second 1st rounder. Would not be terribly pissed about that. Ball-hawk, physical corner. But taking a CB in the 1st, he's gotta be damn nice all the way around. If he keeps working on his speed and recovering, then nice. Just gonna be a bitch if he goes to the NFL and is constantly getting burned by fast WR's.

Double post, I blame the ddos attacks
