2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yes but you will also noticed i included a team option as well. You know not a franchise tag

Really, the franchise tag only shifts leverage back to the team for negotiations.. Even if the Browns tag Pryor, it's no guarantee that he signs the tender before agreeing to a deal. He very well may be spooked at the specter of having a poor 2017 and losing a sizable chunk of money in the long-run.

not sure i would agree with franchise tag of pryor. No problem with a big 1 year contract to a top 10-20 reciever, with a team option for next year. But a franchise tag seems like a stretch

It might be the best option for both sides, its really a unique situation.

We dont know what we have in Pryor yet and dont want to over pay on a long term deal. Pryor doesnt want to get under paid on a long term deal, especially if he further develops. A franchise tag pays him part of cap room we wont use this year anyways, insures he is with the team another year, and allows us to see 1 more year of his development.

I think it might end up happening and might be a unique situation where its the best thing for both sides.

Interestingly enough, PFF had the offensive line ranked dead center of the league. Even with the injuries, the OL outperformed their preseason expectations. Still would like to see a G/C taken mid rounds (assuming no Tretter signing) as Greco is getting old and Bitonio's rookie contract will be up soon/he has battled injuries.

That's why I'm leaning towards them not spending a lot of draft capital on the Oline.

One 4th round center for what i hope is depth. Need one in free agency too.

We have 3 returning linemen from injury, the ones that stepped in should be back. O-line should not be an area of weakness at all if we take care of the center position.

I think it would be an excellent use of $ to lure Tretter away from GB, with price essentially being no object. He's only 25 and grades out well from PFF. If that's even remotely possible, we should strongly consider it.

If you think about the offensive side of the ball, having a sieve like Erving at center really strains your play calling. They say that you are only as strong as your weakest link, and we all know that's absolutely bovine feces when it comes to offense. The Center position is tough to hide, as we painfully saw last season.
