2017 Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tyvis Powell was waived by the Seahawks. I assume the Browns can pick him up right? He is on a 3 year non-guaranteed contract with 2 years left. With the question marks at safety, I'd put in a waiver claim since I assume it will be no risk, right?

Just for reference, I'm going to put this in the draft thread as well. Didn't think I should start another 2017 thread; I'll leave that to the Mods if they see fit.

With the hiring of Gregg Williams, do the Browns look to sign a 4-3 DT now? Shelton fits well at DT, but I'm not so sure we have anyone to play the "3" technique. Think they'd throw a big offer at Short? Could make him the highest paid DT in the league. Ogbah, Shelton, Short, Garrett with Nassib, Meder, Paea, etc :doh (1):

That D Line could dominate for a very long time. It'd be worth the investment.

I think they will look for someone but everyone keeps forgetting about Desmond Bryant who IMO is an above average player. I believe they restructured his contract this year to be much more beneficial for the team as well.

Trumain Johnson might be a FA. He'd be AWESOME in our secondary. May want to reunited with Williams.

Yeah, I think we do have a good 3T DT on the team. Cooper. He will thrive in that role, he was one of the best his draft year and we miscast him in a 3-4 DE. Other than that, no, there isn't much. Probably need to draft one. Also need an edge rusher, Garrett would be awesome.

Whenever a new coach comes along, you can always expect a few of his "guys" to follow..

One guy in particular that I would take note of: SS TJ McDonald... 26 year old, box, play-making safety, he fits the mold the type of player the FO will likely target and plays an important position in Williams' defense...

I really would like to know how much cash JH3 is raking in... Please just hunker down and focus on football! I mean, $105 million in cap room this coming season. Geez.

And that's before the rebate we won't pay New England in the Jamie Collins trade!

Another name to keep your eye on: DT Dominque Easley...

Former 1st rounder traded by the Patriots to the Rams, had good numbers and good success in a new situation under Gregg Williams last year..

Reason I bring him up: Williams went out of his way to mention Easley in the press conference, as an example of what the scouting report was vs. what the reality of getting a player in your building is... Said he was an excellent player... With him being a free agent, restricted albeit, young (25) and looking for a bigger role, I could see it as an opportunity for Browns to get a penetrating, quick DT next to Shelton...

With him being a RFA, that could make things difficult. Not sure what the Rams plans are with him of what their cap situation is. Wade Phillips is coming in to run the D. He seems like the type to never turn down good DL players, but if they are making the change to a 3-4, none of Donald, Quinn, or Easley are 3-4 OLB types. So maybe Easley would be the odd man out?

I am sure the Browns have the their targets in the Draft and Free agency already starting to happen. I see their strategy this offseason in free agency who is young and available to fit Jackson's and Williams's schemes.

Targets in QB, you will have Cousins, Tyrod Taylor and Grappolo, Taylor of those three is actually going to be the easiest to get. Cousins is still young, but can demand a full price and you will have to big with the Redskins and the 49ers for him, so he's likely out. Grappolo would be available, but the Browns aren't willing to pay Patriots price, but if it does come down we could see him in Cleveland

WR and RB, are not positions we will sign in free agency other than Undrafted Free agent guys/reclaim projects for nothing. So I don't see us doing either. I see us though resigning Pryor since he knows the system and is a good fit.

OLine- this is an area I would be okay with taking a good free agent in. I would say let's go get a legit center or RT in free agency

TE- I am okay with another veteran here, but we don't have to either. One of those if a very good player is available and we get him, sweet, if we don't then it's cool.

Defense- Who is our veteran leader on defense? Which guys fits the new scheme in town? That is what we have to decide on. I don't see us signing a LB really, but in interior DLine and a safety should be targets. I am looking at 27 and younger players. Who is the best player available at C, DE/DT, Safety out there? This is supposed to be a strong CB class, but do you see any good young CBs available? I am pretty sure our targets will look like my list so who of each position would you guys want us to get?
