2017 Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm all about building a cockpit to plug a QB into so he can be successful. Right now, that means securing an offensive line, and making a strong defense.

At #1, you take Garrett. That gives you Garrett/Bryant/Shelton/Ogbah up front, with Orchard, Nassib and Johnson fighting for edge spots, and Cooper, Paea, Meder fighting for DT spots. Decent front 4 right there, and you don't shy away from taking another DT or DE in the draft if the value is right.

The linebacking corps starts with Collins, Kirksey and Davis, with Schobert as a backup--but you don't have much else. I'd look to get younger and more talented in the draft, but wouldn't be against bringing in a free agent linebacker to improve upon Davis.

I truly believe the reason the Browns were so bad last year is that we had the worst secondary--specifically safeties--in the history of football. I'm looking to acquire either Hooker or Adams by moving up from #12, and then doubling down with Budda Baker in the second. However, I'm fine with grabbing a free agent safety who can cover, like Tony Jefferson. I'm not a huge fan of in-the-box guys like Cyprien, but I think Gregg Williams is. After you figure out your two starting safeties, you have to take advantage of the deep CB class this year. Tre'Davious White is a guy I love in the second round. But with all the starting-quality CB's in the draft, you have to grab at least one or two.

Late rounds, look for OL/DL talent. Siragusa, Asiata and Eldrenkamp are some OG prospects I like in the later rounds.

Although I would love a OSU man on the team, I think I remember him missing a ton of games last year with a bad injury. On top of that, he is 33, won't get any healthier, and we are rebuilding.

Wish him the best, but no go for the Browns.

Actually, he could be a smart pickup for a rebuilding team. If you can get him cheap, you don't need him long-term. You draft a young center who doesn't have the pressure of starting from day one, and who has a great vet from whom to learn.

Mangold will not be a target for us unless we are planning on having him groom a future C. He is a solid player, but his metrics were down last season and unlikely to be what we are trying to get. We are targeting mostly guys 27 and younger who have NFL experience that can come in right away and be starters for this team. Now it is possible we sign some older guys as backups, but I am doubting we will go over the age of 27 in free agency this season. In 2018 though we will go for contention, but this season is to add more talent to a really young team that is likely to once again keep a lot of draft picks. I am expecting someone on the OLine, Safetys and CBs in free agency

Mangold would be an excellent fit if they can't get Tretter or Shipley.

Personally I like Mangold, but he isn't coming to Cleveland since we aren't a contender/close to it, and two we aren't signing an older player like him in free agency really. They are trying to build a line going forward rather than just find a stop gap. I really like Zeitler from Cincinnati and if we got him, would a guy like Greco be good enough to play Center?

The market for cornerbacks who are still relatively young (in their 20's) is pretty beefy. You've got to think that the Browns are looking into at least one of these guys:

Trumaine Johnson
Alterraun Verner
Prince Amukamara
Captain Munnerlyn
Stephon Gilmore
Morris Claiborne
DJ Hayden
AJ Bouye
Dre Kirkpatrick

Did AJ Bouye resign with Houston? He's better than every single one of those corners listed.

No, just an accident on my part. IMO, and I'd love to see the Browns do it with Eric Berry, but I just don't see the Browns vying for the top guy on the market. I think they'll mine for guys who have been undervalued & (in their eyes) misused. We'll see, but I feel they'll try to be shrewd.

Short (Panthers) and Jones (Cardinals) have gotten franchise tagged so far.

On phone but seeing tweets/links that the Browns still don't plan on tagging Pryor.

Sorry if that was mentioned elsewhere --please delete if that's the case.
