2017 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Please direct me to any/all Sportscoach and b00bie back and forth in the Indians section since I don't visit often.

Let me stop you right there.

Honestly cause of the Quintana trade, to get a top starter on this years market will cost Mejia or McKenzie without a doubt. So who are you wanting to get or do you just plan on staying put with who we have?

We don't need to add a top starter

Great timing :chuckle:

My reason for not wanting him is I think he's a diva and he isn't having a very good season. He was asked to be traded after the Mets moved him to 2B, but he was frustrated because the Mets didn't let him know until he got back from his rehab stint in the minors (he would have liked to had time to practice) and he wants the Mets to pick up his $8.5m option. Not sure how he'd feel about being relegated to the bench once Kipnis is back.

If he comes here, it'd be to play 2B while Kipnis is out. I think the Tribe would keep Jose at 3B- Cabrera has played 1 game at 3B in his career and has 11 errors at SS this year.

Has my answer not been obvious, to this point?

Love this idea. Will cost them the $2M buyout next season, but shouldn't cost as much.

This interest in utility guys makes sense as they try to use Erik Gonzalez in a deal for someone better.

There is no ifs ands or buts about it, the Indians are looking to acquire another starting pitcher. It doesn't mean that they will, but they will be speculated with almost any starting pitcher out there. Also they are speculated with another bat as well (though I expect the bat to be a rental and if they go starting pitcher, it will be a guy they can control for awhile)

They were linked to JD Martinez, Jay Bruce, Eduardo Nunez and Asdrubal Cabrera so far so either a veteran OF Bat or an utility guy are the targets.

Pitching wise multiple times to Sonny Gray, so my guess he would be their number 1 target if they do decide to go for a starting pitcher. We all have speculated Happ or Estrada as well for targets for this team. I think a guy like Verlander would be a dream that could never possibly come through since no way the Tigers would trade a guy like that within the division unless they get the whole farm back.

I havent seen any rumors towards anything else, so it is very likely the Indians are targeting a rental bat and a starting pitcher with control if they decide to make any moves. At least that is what my money would be on if I was a betting man.

I know it's my dream to pay Verlander $55+ million over the next two years to produce mediocre results while in decline.

I feel like a broken record, but I see no reason to think the Indians wouldn't be interested in a rental pitcher.

Tribe have Cookie through 2020, Kluber and Salazar through 2021, and Clevinger through 2023. Gray is great, but the need to add him to the rotation does not come close to equaling the cost of what would probably be Mejia AND McKenzie in this market.

Trading for Gray would be like putting a cast on something that only needs a few band-aids.

Verlander is still better than Tomlin or Bauer to be honest. He has had three bad starts and 11 quality starts this season. Gray has been the better pitcher, but it would be nice to have his experience on our team down the stretch. Verlander pitches his best ball in September. I personally don't think it would happen, but I am not opposed to us getting him at the right price. I would rather have him than Asdrubal Cabrera.

I am not opposed to a rental pitcher either, but it seems like from all the rumors, they haven't been going after one. It seems like they are going after pitchers with years of control, now that being said, it is quite possible they aren't trying to show what their real plans are and hoping to make people overpay for Gray and we get our target for a lot cheaper.

Let's be reasonable here, Dolan's aren't adding bad money to the books. We will get our 100+ ranked SP and like it.

Also, we'll never add Gray either because the cost is high and we have a guy that is a boom or bust coming back into the fold. I'm not willing to risk a glaring need in Meija that could wind up being a cornerstone with Frankie and Hosey.

If Salazar ever gets back on track like the 1st half of 2016 then we're fine as whine.

Think you're selling Asdrubal's curveball short.

The only name we've been tied to is Gray, along with like 5 other teams.

That is the funny thing since Gray in 14-15 was one of the best pitchers in baseball. He was injuried last season, but has been a lot better this season. 10 of his 15 starts where quality starts this season and has given up 6 ER in his last 6 starts. He is a legitimate starting MLB pitcher. The question is who do we have to give up for him? I am projecting Mejia because of the interest and because of the fact Oakland needs a future catcher without a doubt and Mejia would be up in September for them to finish the season more than likely. He isn't a boom or bust type of guy at the end of the day. Give him a full season healthy and he will make a run at the Cy Young race without a doubt in my mind. He was third in the Cy Young behind Kuechel and Price in 2015 and mostly lost since he is a not a strikeout pitcher.

Also personally, I don't trust Salazar's health. He has always had good stuff, but even in the minors, Salazar struggled to get 100 innings and so far he has never made a full season without getting hurt. The guy will never pitch 200 innings in a season and likely will never pitch the 33-34 starts. I wish we would have traded Salazar for a bat a long time ago. This is my personal opinion, but I dont trust Salazar as our number 3 guy.
