2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For everyone cheering about Lue being great for the tank,I hope you realise he's going to be horrible for the development of the younger players.

You’re smart enough to know these sentiments are merely coping mechanisms as we fans have very little to say about what direction Dan Gilbert takes the team. I think people such as myself internalized Lue coming back as a positive because we knew he was coming back and are simply embracing the tank. Openly rooting to lose? No, I can’t do that but the flaws are glaringly obvious and we got the door blown off by a bottom 5 team.

A coach that underachieved with LeBron isn’t going to overachieve without him (typing this made me chuckle). We’ve been plying fireable defense for years now and nothing has happened.

This will be the first year of the tank so only Collin is in danger of not being developed correctly and I am nervous about that (Zizic and Cedi were already pros before being drafted and just needed minutes). TT being dealt by some miracle will hopefully force Lue into playing Zizic regular minutes. However I won’t hold my breath because he’s garbage and nobody would trade for him so I imagine him laying down bricks in order to create a path to RJ Barrett.

watch us go like 8-32 then win like 8 in a row just to ruin everything ala Chicago Bulls last season

So 3 games in, people slowly realizing that we're not a playoff team, even in the lowly east. I have to admit, I don't really care, I knew we were screwed. Not surprised that the worst team in the league whipped our asses.

We're about to find out how good Lebron James actually is. And it seems like he is pretty fucking good.

Can we just finally tank and keep our pick please?

Also, as I said, KLove will be one of the league worst contract soon... He'll be a serviceable player for a couple more years, but no one is paying 30mil a year for the next 5 years for an above average starter. Only teams I could see wanting him are other shitty teams like us that are just desperate for talents... No contender will wanna be 30mil for Love.

Anyways, here is to hoping we finally fire Lue and that Gilbert sells the team :p

Dan Gilbert gets a ton of grief (I've taken a few shots) but very few owner will invest in a team and a city the way he has. We're also assuming the next owner will somehow be an improvement and that isn't always the case. Houston's new owner decided he didn't want to run it back with a valuable piece in Ariza (1 year 15 million) which has probably been the most absurd thing I've heard of.

Gilbert is a wonderful owner for a contending team. You know he will spend indeed. But he's interfered with basketball operations way too much and it seems like most of his decisions back fired... We can't have an owner standing between our rebuiding mission. We need to tank and stock up on assets. We don't need to overpay fringe all stars like KLove. If LeBron couldn't recruit other stars here, Love is definitely not gonna cut it either. S once again, the draft becomes our best best to finding stars...

LeBron's antics have caught up with him and guys are choosing NOT to play with him in LA. His inability to commit long-term because of his mistrust of Gilbert, fair or unfair, chased guys away. Interfering with basketball operations was my main gripe along with his inability to settle on a GM ("presidential term" is apparently his thing with no chance for re-election). However, the positives far outweigh the negatives and you just hope he believes in Koby's vision for the future.

I think their plan was to put together a hardworking team that overachieves then open up 2 max slots in 2020. If Love is still producing and under contract, he can potentially be your 5th option.

Max guy #1
Max guy #2
2019 Top 5 pick
Sexton/Cedi
Love (32-33 year old)

Again, I'm speculating on the top 5 because, I'm assuming we're not going to goof and trade for Conley/Gasol if we're close to playoff contention (I doubt that considering how awful we've looked but it's only been 3 games). Like others have mentioned, we don't have the coach, the defense or the shooting to overachieve.

3 games in is probably an over-reaction but..... after getting destroyed by Atlanta, who's ASS, at home.... yeh, I'm on the tank train.

To my credit, I was on the tank train in the offseason. It was Dan who foolishly thought we had enough to still compete and make the playoffs.

I think it was more of Dan foolishly thinking people would buy tickets as long as Kevin Love was still on the team. The same Kevin Love that the casual fan is done with after coming here and never living up to their high expectations.

Just letting you know that I absolutely love your avatar. Hah!

I like Kevin, but I really think we should have just moved him. And I feared his value was just going to go down once he plays, and shows he doesn't have another gear being "the guy" on his own team.

Did anyone really think he'd go back to Minny Love? He's just not that guy anymore....

Dude isn't getting younger.

Still as inconsistent as ever from outside and a $30 million dollar turnstile on defense!

I was holding out to see how they did at home. Sometimes that helps the young guys.

Here's how the season looks so far--
