2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Talk tank all you want.... Facts are the Cavaliers haven't lost an eastern conference playoff series since 2010......

I don't expect that to change this year....

AND!! We still are 1 win behind the 2nd worst team. It was a win-win (lose?) all around!

The Sacramento Kings haven't lost a playoff series since 2006 either...

If we're using Altman's promotion timeline as a clue, then it should be noted that he was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel a mere 2 months after the Bennett draft, not 3 years as cited by you. Thus, unless we have hard evidence that he didn't receive a vote, I'm not ruling it out.
  • August of 2012: Hired by Cavaliers as a Pro Personnel Manager.
  • June 27, 2013: 2013 NBA Draft.
  • September of 2013: Promoted to Director of Pro Player Personnel.
  • September of 2016: Promoted to Assistant General Manager.

I couldn't find those. I did look though. He comes up as pro personnel manager on realgm in 2012-2013 and he disappears from the list completely for years after that. I just saw on his wiki that he was director of pro personnel in 2016. He was intern for the Cavs in 2009 then assistant coach at a couple small school. He was an assistant coach at Columbia before coming to the Cavs.

I'm not sure what the hierarchy is with these positions in the front office. Is director of pro personnel the same as director of player personnel. After looking at the realgm list of staff guys have go from director of player personnel to assisants GM or to a scout. The Cavs seem to keep anywhere from 3-5 scouts, who knows if they are all listed from year to year. I know Windy said Koby was like the 3rd or 4th highest guy in the front office when Griff was let go in 2017.

I knew it was 10 but that wasn't just front office guys, we know Dan Gilbert and Mike Brown got votes so who knows what ownership and coaches also got votes.

I wouldn't rule it out either now but I also wouldn't condemn him for it. He would have been very close to the bottom of the group if he was in there. Im not sure how much stock they put into his vote. It seem like his job was helping out where they needed in that first year.

I trust that you did.

My issue isn't so much the weight the Cavs placed on Altman's vote, but whether or not he cast one of the votes to draft Bennett. If he did, that's a fairly significant red flag to me.

The problem with this tank is we are not doing it right... the idea should be to give Sexton, Cedi, and Zizic an incredibly long leash while running a contemporary offense based on efficiency. That way, the three “future pieces”, learn to play the right way.

Instead, we’re just sucking.

I'm not too concerned with lower level guys following the more veteran guys. They loved the Bennett interviews for some reason. He always seemed Dim to me though. The Bennett pick was terrible, but man in a redraft Oladipo goes 3rd behind Giannis and Gobert and Noel the consensus #1 goes in the 2nd round i think.

That was the most Diamond in the rough draft ever. Was said to be one of the worst drafts, but turned out to be great for anyone after the high lottery.

What if I told you we don't have any future pieces?

Hence the quotation marks, lol. My point is, even if none of those three and Nance are not good pieces moving forward, it helps to showcase them. Even if they develop to the point where you can sell them as a starter/rotation for a playoff team, then it works out, and Cavs make gains.

The problem is, when you're coaching them to play the wrong way, it does not provide your team or other teams with any actionable information. Plus it just looks ugly.

The problem I see in putting anything into Altman's vote is that he was so new in the organization and it was his first draft. Him going against all the guys in the room that he probably had been learning from would have looked bad and agreeing with Grant would have looked like he was sucking up.

I've said it before that a vote that is swayed that much had to have someone behind taking Bennett. In my mind and from the news conferences after the pick, it seemed to be Mike Brown. He talked about watching Bennett in practice at UNLV when he was off and they were looking for a school for his son. He was gushing over Bennett in similar fashion as Byron Scott was when they took Dion. Bryon talked about all the tape he watch on Dion and how he thought he was perfect to fit into his system and next to Kyrie.

Also there were alot of reports that the front office was calling everyone trying to trade down all the way up till they had to put in the name. Gilbert asked Grant to find the guy with all-star potential because he thought you shouldn't take a player number 1 that can't be an all-star. We will never know what the parameters of the vote were. Maybe they asked who they thought had the most potential to be an All-star and didn't just want the best player.

I think most people thought Oladipo was the best player of the draft but lacked the potential to be an all-star. From what I've read about Giannis and the Bucks, it's not likely they targeted him. They actually tried to trade up for someone else and failed, they just settled on Giannis because where they were at in the draft.

Looking for Hood to be gone soon ... but he will have to approve the trade I think starting tomorrow!

Some claim this changes after the trade deadline. I would love to see Love come back, provide some on court leadership for Cedi and Sexton and maybe get some time with Zizic as they should be a good pairing on paper. 2 offensive front court threats with Nwaba in a Thabo role might be pretty cool.

I really think Hood is hurting Cedi and Collins ability to to move the ball and Bruks has fallen into that recently too. Id really like a guy like Nwaba in there to not take their touches away.

All in all, yes, you have to fail with our youngest guys instead of Hood, Burks, etc. Clarkson is going to be here, and it seems like Delly has really helped him, so maybe that isn't so bad.

F*** off Lacob! The tank stop for no one, league office investigations be damned, we're winning the lottery and Bill Simmons is quitting sports. Let's gooooo!!
