2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The problem I see in putting anything into Altman's vote is that he was so new in the organization and it was his first draft. Him going against all the guys in the room that he probably had been learning from would have looked bad and agreeing with Grant would have looked like he was sucking up.
Or, Altman could've voted with Grant because he didn't believe Bennett was worthy of the #1 pick. As you said, it was his first draft, so perhaps he should've placed greater emphasis on getting the pick correct over groupthink appeasement. Whether he was trying to blend in, or simply enamored with Bennett's potential, a vote for Bennett still goes down as a vote for the biggest bust in NBA history.

The one thing is we have actually never heard who Grant wanted to pick. We have heard he wanted to trade down and they seemingly tried but never what his pick would have been if he didn't defer to the group.

The problem with this tank is we are not doing it right... the idea should be to give Sexton, Cedi, and Zizic an incredibly long leash while running a contemporary offense based on efficiency. That way, the three “future pieces”, learn to play the right way.

Instead, we’re just sucking.
Just do what the nets did. Hire a smart modern coach, shoot threes, and make sure any potential young piece gets a few chances at least per game to show flashes. Jarrett Allen was allowed to play, he became a good defensive center. Dinwiddie, Harris, LeVert, etc all got chances to do what they’re best at without regard for the game result. Unfortunately we don’t have a LeVert caliber player on this team though (how sad)

Serious question. Are we the worst team in the league or are we just tanking really damn hard.

I truly believed we still were playoff contenders in the summer.

We are one of the worst teams in the league but not the worst when healthy and everyone playing (JR Smith), but with Love going down, we started making trades to tank and now are the worst team in the league and quite frankly, by far the worst until Kevin comes back.

My god I completely forgot JR Smith is still collecting a check. Lol

Yes we are but it didn’t start that way. The players were even excited to show what they could do without LBJ. I think coaching and management torpedoed the players and it went downhill early.

Actually the mistake management made was signing an unreliable player to a 4 year $120m extension on top of the $25m he is making this year and expecting him to lead the team; this player then immediately went into the tank and here we are.

I also think fit is part of the equation with how bad this team is. We don't really have the players that fit together. The coaching staff doesn't help.

If we got rid of Hood/Burks/Clarkson at the deadline and brought in players that are a better fit, I think this team could look alot better.

Slight nit. I don’t care about fit this year. Just acquire better players regardless of fit and assets
Kind of intrigued with adel. We need to take on some guys like this and hope for a find

So I am not sure if I heard you right, did you say we don't fit together or we are shit together?

Yeah fit isn't a big deal, but having no 3 pt shooter essentially and 3 bigs that don't shoot, and 2 slashers as the main young guys you want to develop is a recipe for disaster. Add the worst defensive coach of all time that actively degrades your defense year by year and you have the worst team in the league.

I have to say though, when I watch the Bulls or Knicks, they look like worse teams to me. I think we are lucky we blew so many close games late that should have been wins like the Orlando game.

Without Love, I don't think it's even really a question as to the Cavs being the worst team in the league. With Love healthy, I'm not sure. Didn't get much time to see how the roster plays with Love. Definitely still bottom quarter of the league, even with Love.

Jordan Clarkson is our top scorer. There's really nothing else to be said, is there? Does anyone else have a worse top scorer? I'd say he's one of the worst leading scorers in NBA history! Modern NBA history, at least.

All the other scrub tier teams have some promising players or established veterans making the on-court product slightly more watchable. Booker/Ayton, Markannen/Lavine, etc.
