2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The main issue is that the Knicks kinda control their own destiny. They have 5 games against the other bottom teams and that is crucial. We still have 4 ourselves and we could pull it off. We must lose both to the Knicks to have a chance at staying out of the 6th or 7th spot. I think we can pull off losses to the Suns without difficulty, just have Sexton guard Booker one-on-one the entire game. With the Suns being in the West and having only 24 games left, they don't have to do much to lose even if they try not to. I don't think we have to worry about the Bulls, they have the 4 spot locked I think.

With the NBA changing the draft order this year actually makes tanking more of an incentive. It was rare to have the worst team actually win that damn thing anyways even with 25% however, now teams trying to avoid the 6 through 8 is going to take effort.

The odds are shit.

The big reason to fully tank now is to avoid the possibility of falling all the way down to 6 or even 7.

At #3, which is our current position, we are more than twice as likely to draft 6th or 7th (33%) than get the #1 overall (14%).

The #2 team has a 20% chance of drafting 6th. The #1 team will never draft 6th but still has a 48% chance of dropping to 5th.
Thanks for the info...makes it clear...odds seem like crap...maybe we can trade TT on draft night to move up

The NBA changed the rules supposedly to give less incentive to teams to tank by making the chances of getting a top or top-3 pick equal. Apparently, at least looking at the posters here, not dropping to a 6th or 7th is enough of an incentive to tank. This makes me think that giving every non-playoff team equal chances is more sensible. We had had a discussion on this in another thread. This is actually a quite interesting topic for me, so I am willing to think over different ideas as well. I am more leaning to awarding better records than worse ones or/and taking into account when the team lost its chance of making the playoffs. There is no point in rewarding bad managements, bad coaching etc. Plus it does not make the league more equal and fun, which is the whole point.

I like your way of thinking. How about the four worst teams in the nba have some kind of wildcard playoff series. Standard seeding. First out gets 4th pick and so on. Gives incentive to win.

Well I'm glad Fred lost his shit over a fucking Knicks Win for crying out loud.

yeah we would get laughed off the phone pretty quickly. No one who is rebuilding is going to move out of a top 3 pick for TT. I am pretty confident that wont get it done.
You would need to trade future first rounders with very limited to no protection, and that might not even be enough

It's the slots and how each team basically get bumped if some team jumps up. I'm not completely sure how to fix it but I don't think equal odds would fix it either. It's the same problem if you are increasing the likelihood of being bumped then teams will tank to better their worst case scenario.

Player movement seems like more of a problem than tanking to me. Competitive teams can't afford to lose star players without compensation so once a player gives an indication they are leaving they put them on the trade block. I wish the NBA would give out compensation picks so teams can ride out a players contract. Maybe you add those compensation picks to the lottery.

Kevin makes the team look good. We'll see against a better team.

Nets should be a loss tomorrow, and then back on track with a hopeful loss against the Suns Thursday night.

Ayton is averaging 17.4 and 10.4 in his last 10 games. Should dominate, especially if Zizic is out.

We will catch up to just a half game back from the Suns.

I watched the 4th quarter of Nets - Raptors. Nets are good -- damn near won in Toronto.

When TT is back with Love and Osman, we will be a considerably better team.. that said we should only play both against good teams trying to win in the west.

I think we are even a better team right now than before the trade deadline. Sexton is an attacking guard and with Burks/Hood gone he has more opportunities to attack. Nwaba fits into a team mentality of attacking in transition. In the limited minutes Love has shown he will push the ball to Sexton to get those attacking opportunity. Knight seems comfortable as a spot up shooter and seems to make the extra pass if his shot isnt there.

I agree when we add Cedi and TT back it will make us alot better. Cedi fits in to the attacking mentality and he really showed his ability to finish was coming together before he got injured. TT will fight for rebounds and he won't attempt to be a point forward like Nance.

Not sure how the Koby will keep the tank on track but he has to be creative for these last 25 games.

TT is a turd. The Knicks are just historically bad.

This take is so tired. TT routinely wins his matchup. He is finally healthy and his quicks are back. He will make the team better when he comes back.

Nance might even be a better match with Love, but TT has been really good this year. The only time he has looked bad is when he came back before his foot was healed.
