2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You think they let him walk away right after they let Solder walk away? I thought the plan was Brown for the future?

Don't think he'll get franchised, so until I hear otherwise he'll be available.

The Browns can throw the most at him, and obviously would be well served setting up Mayfield and Chubb for success.

Brown - Bitonio - Tretter - Zeitler - Hubbard/Rookie

That is a hell of a wall.

That’s how you protect your investment (mayfield)

You dare forget Cleveland legend Austin Corbett? :chuckle::chuckle:

Pete Smith thinks we should move Bitonio to LT and let Corbett play guard. I got into an argument with him about it on Twitter but he can Tweet forever. I eventually just gave up.

Pete Smith...wow. The keyboard wannabe of Mike Mayock.

He sometimes gives good analysis. I have no issue with his analysis. But I can't go on Twitter for more than five exchanges back-and-forth. This dude went on after eight. It's unnatural.

Is Corbett still a thing?

I believe he will be the center next year, despite a strong year by Tretter.

Next year as in 2019 or next year as in 2020?

I would be very surprised if anything changed at LG-C-RG for 2019 unless they decide to move Bitonio to LT.

Tretter's contract is up after 2019, so Corbett can take over then.

I’m merely saying that all options are on the table. He may be shopped this offseason, despite depth being valuable.

Our dead money would only be $1.5 million for 2019 and we would save over $5 million via trade. Not that we need the savings, but it depends how our front office believes in Corbett.

I think it’s also worth noting that Tretter has played tackle under James Campen with the Packers.

The talk about Brown being ‘transformed’ by Dante Scarnecchia in New England is vastly overblown. He allowed nearly the same amount of pressures he did in his last full season in San Francisco (35 vs. 39 in 2016). While he gave up half as many sacks, his 12 hits allowed were the second-most of any tackle. Brown pretty much is what he is at this point; an incredibly large man who will alternate whiffs with dominant blocks.

My worry about Brown is getting him away from NE structure and Scarnecchia, who is one of the best, if not the best offensive line coaches in the league...

While LT is high on the Browns need list, I'd rather see them invest a 1st or 2nd round pick with the solid tackle class coming out then give out another large contract... Right now Bitonio, Zeitler, Tretter and Hubbard are 4 of the top 11 paid players going into 2019, and that's not including the pending Collins release/trade..

If Browns want to get rid of Hubbard, it'll be in 2020 when his contract becomes a lot more friendly to do so... They're not going to constrain themselves just to get rid of a league average tackle to do so...

I really think Tretter was on his way to being cut in 2019 with a contract out and Corbett incoming but he perhaps played him back on the roster with an excellent season...

Corbett will likely be additional depth next year and be inserted into the starting 2020 lineup when they will have a hole or two to potentially fill...

In short: the line likely remains the same in 2019 with a draft pick being the likeliest solution to address the LT hole...

I don't understand the fascination with Trent Brown--I think he's a giant, slow man.

But, I also don't understand the fascination with paying at LT. What I saw in the second half of this season was Kitchens and Baker basically scheming out the need for highly paid offensive tackles. They had a dynamic offense that didn't ask a LT to hold a block for 6 seconds. They had quick passes, and enough creativity that defenses were struggling against our line.

The interior of our offensive line is a strength. Our competitive advantage comes from the fact that we don't have to pay a LT big money--and can use that money elsewhere. Re-sign Robinson for cheap, and keep rolling with what you have. Corbett won't start--he'll be first man up if anyone on the interior gets hurt.

All this talk about Trent Brown will be for nothing when they retain him. He's just 25 years old.

Bill is known to let players go at the end of their rope. Not guys in their prime and plays left tackle. Probably the second most important position in football.

Just retain Robinson. It'll cost less.

Not sure shelling out a lot of money for Brown is really needed.

I know Greg Robinson sometimes looked competent when he didn’t look wholly inept, during a stretch in which the Browns looked good.

But a historically bad player protecting your investment in Mayfield is awfully concerning.
