2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Second Round:
Justin Layne
Taylor Rapp
DeAndre Baker
Hakeem Butler
Darnell Savage
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
Mack Wilson

Third Round:
Amani Hooker
Andy Isabella
Travon Mullen
Blake Cashman
Vosean Joseph

I'm telling you right now, if Justin Layne is there at 49, I'm running the card to the podium. Savage and CGJ would be next in my wish list.

Huge fan of Vosean, Isabella and Cashman.

I would expect this to be a defensive heavy draft for the Browns this year...

Aside from a OT falling to the 2nd round, I really do think a lot of the roster spots are accounted for on offense... I don't think Dorsey would turn away an offensive playmaker if he fell, but the needs for now and in the future are on defense..

Even if the Browns add some additional depth in free agency on defense, the Browns still have little depth at DT, LB or S... They also could see Kirksey cut next year and have a potential hole (depending on how Kindred performs) at SS as well...

Addressing the depth at all levels of defense with a mid-late round skill position player would be my guess on how things play out...

In addition, wouldn't surprise me if the Browns come away with 5-6 rookies as opposed to the 8 draft picks they currently have... Unlike in year's past, not sure they have room for a large rookie class...

I agree on drafting young defenders to develop with an asterisk on offensive tackle. Spending some money to solidify the reserve offensive linemen is just smart football because the last thing you want is an overmatched backup getting his ass handed to him, shutting down the whole offense. I think back to when Alex Mack broke his leg and that joke Nick McDonald had to start at center. Dorsey made sure Baker wouldn't have to go through that. I will say that we are about to learn a lot about Chris Hubbard this year. It looked to me like having Kevin Zeitler next to him helped out a lot in pass protection. Lamm was signed to be a swing tackle, but don't be surprised if another tackle is drafted higher up. Lamm stepping into a starting role due to injury isn't a disaster, but it would be the area every defensive coordinator would target to slow Baker down.

The only true need is defensive backs. The Browns could draft three defensive backs and I'd be happy. Mitchell, Carrie, and Gaines have had up and down careers. A strong pass rush covers up mediocre pass coverage, but we know teams will be trying to keep up with the Browns high scoring offense. Be prepared for a lot of hurry up offense.

The interesting part to me is the Browns bringing in offensive line coach James Campen..

From 2007-2017, when he was offensive line coach, the Packers only drafted an offensive lineman in the 1st twice and in the 2nd once... Otherwise, they never invested higher than a 4th round pick... Yet, Allen Barbre (4th), Josh Sitton (4th), Brent Giacomini (5th), TJ Lang (5th), Marshall Newhouse (5th), JC Tretter (4th), David Bahktiari (4th), Corey Linsley (5th) all were drafted later on and had varying levels of success in GB--and that's not even counting guys like Evan Dietrich-Smith, Evan Taylor, etc., who were undrafted and went on to have pretty good careers... Granted this speaks to GBs philosophy and their development, but Campen was a large part in that and really did well developing later round OLs--particularly interior guys... If there is one position they drafted higher it was OTs, which is high on Dorsey's positional pyramid...

In regards to Dorsey, he took at least one OL in 4 out of 5 years while in KC... He took Eric Fisher 1st overall and Mitch Morse in the 2nd round but otherwise he took 4 interior lineman in the 4th round and later...

So like I mentioned, I could see the Browns taking a OT in the 2nd round if one of the top prospects fell.. However, Dorsey and the GB theme has been to invest mid-round picks in interior OL while really investing early in OTs...

As we saw last year, I think offensive line is as much coaching as talent. Our offensive line looked like dog shit for eight weeks, with Baker getting murdered, then Kitchens took over and suddenly they looked totally fine.

I don't think it's a coincidence that seemingly every year we see a former Pats offensive lineman leave New England and suddenly suck.

I don't see Dorsey going offense at all in the first few rounds, considering the defense will need to have some depth, along with another safety to replace Peppers, if we don't sign or trade for one, anyways.

Although, what if Parris Campbell or my boy Hakeem Butler fell to the Browns in the second round? They clearly don't need a receiver, but I'm still a big fan of those two. Would be nice to have a young guy like that learning from the current core, and having depth when/if someone gets hurt.

I still want Dorsey going defense.. But passing on one of those guys may be too difficult, in my opinion.

I don't think Campbell is appealing at all in the second.

I don't think WR is appealing at all, period. OBJ, Landry, Callaway, Higgins. You've already invested a ton of assets into an ancillary position. You're done there. IF a speed demon like Isabella were available on the third day, that's the only time I'd pull the trigger on adding a rookie to the WR room.

The only WRs I'd consider in the second are Metcalf and Harry, and neither is likely to be there when we pick. It's not a position of need so we should only target it that high if one of the top receivers falls for whatever reason.

You draft it if it's BPA. With this year's WR class, I don't see that being the case. I don't have a first round grade on any of the WR's in this draft.

I really like Campbell and his speed, along with Butler's. But I definitely agree with what you're saying.

If we're going by best BPA in the second we're drafting a Safety. I just don't see how we possibly find a better player at that isn't completely redundant with our current roster.

Safety class is too deep and there are too many great options for not at least one guy to drop to 49.

I agree I think it is BPA with a focus on defense. I also don’t see us bringing in 8 players, with what we did in FA I could this as a year that we trade up in rounds to get the guy we want, or try to move picks to next year. As our rosters gets older and expensive in the next few years it would be good to have good draft capital to add cheap young talent. We are in a unique spot with how young are roster is that we can have a light year in the draft and would not hurt us long term. To me a goal should be to try and find a way add a 3rd round pick to next year. Get 3/4 players out of this draft, and pick up 1/2 picks for next year. I think we will be a hot spot for some undrafted players.
