2019 Potential Free Agency Targets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The last several signings have addressed some depth issues (LB, TE, CB, OL) this team had but there's still some work to be done...

Right now, unless something changes, it looks like the offense will be pretty stable going into the draft... You could see a vet RB signed if they move Duke or another OL brought in to compete, especially with some of the talent still out there (former GB guys TJ Lang and Josh Sitton), but otherwise it looks like a lot of the heavy lifting has been done...

They do have a need for a blocking h-back/TE but with the lack of talent in free agency at that spot, I'd see them addressing it through the draft...

Defense is where I could see them making a couple more rotational type additions...

Right now you could argue they have three starting spots open to right player--

SAM: Genard Avery might be penciled in as starter but he'd be better off being a rotational piece and further sharpening his OLB skills... Even though they've signed Ray-Ray Armstrong and Adarius Taylor for depth, there still is not much behind Schobert and Kirksey...
FAs: Zach Brown, Clay Matthews, Mark Barron, Brandon Marshall, Vincent Rey, Manti Te'o

#2 CB: Terrance Mitchell played well opposite of Ward but you can never have too many corners and pushing Mitchell to primary boundary backup wouldn't be a bad idea...
FAs: Darqueze Dennard, Morris Claiborne, Rashaan Melvin, Sam Shields, Bashaud Breeland

SS: Derrick Kindred has played well at times throughout his Browns tenure, and can be a solid starter, but the Browns will miss some of Peppers' versatility and speed on the backend... In addition to that, these are the backups behind Randall and Kindred: Tigie Sankoh and Jermaine Whitehead...
FAs: Jonathan Cyprien, Jahleel Adae, Eric Berry (FS), Tre Boston (FS), Mike Mitchell, George Iloka, Kurt Coleman

I could even see them adding another DT for competition with the two backup spots open for competition between Trevon Coley, Carl Davis, Devaroe Lawrence and Brian Price...

Given Kindred’s ability to play in the box effectively, I’m not sure we need to be shopping for a true strong safety.

Rather, I think we need another free safety who can cover. In today’s league, having Randall, a guy like Tre Boston who can flex but is more of a free safety, and Kindred would be a solid safety rotation.

I wouldn’t shop specifically for box guys. We have a box guy. Shop for a guy who can cover and get creative with how they get on the field.

Of course, what do I know, I’m hammered. Happy St. Patty’s day, ya fucks.

One exciting fact I just picked up on Adarius Taylor that I hadn't heard yet - he was special teams captain last year in Tampa Bay. So even if he is just depth for the defense, he and Demetrius Harris were brought in to improve the awful special teams play.

I think he meant Duke would be used in a trade up scenario, not a straight up first or second round pick in exchange for Duke.

Duke doesn't have enough value to get our 2nd into the first imo. He has maybe 4th round pick value. Its weird how the nfl values players about to no longer be cheap.

We know John Dorsey isn't afraid to get a trade done. I don't know what Duke's value is around the league, especially now that he makes the type of money a lower end starting running back makes. I do believe the Browns will maximize his value now because he made a name for himself picking up yards when the team went 0-16. Duke has strengths, but I've never completely bought into his value personally. The player he reminds me of is Percy Harvin. Talented? Yes, but he is a bit of a gimmick play maker. Last season, he just didn't click with the new direction Baker and Freddie had steered the franchise. Get what you can now.

I was thinking the same thing this am in regards to backup QB.

Worth noting that this is a real weak RB draft, so a guy who teams already know is a good NFL back might have slightly inflated value compared to last year when there were six or seven quality backs in the draft.

Last year the draft had Barkley, Chubb, Guice, Penny, Michel, Kerryon, Lindsey, and Freeman. Freeman and Guice are still question marks, and RoJo looked like a bust, but that's still a ridiculous RB draft. I wouldn't even be able to name a RB in this year's draft if I hadn't listened to a dynasty podcast during my commute Friday.

And Josh Jacobs would have been somewhere between Johnson and Freeman in last year's class. People really wanted to hype him up, but he's not a great RB prospect.

I do like Bryce Love a lot. Dude had a 2000 yard, 19 touchdown season his junior year. That's absurd. He's also likely to fall because he couldn't test at the Combine due to a knee injury.

Of course, RB obviously isn't a need for us.

If we do indeed move Duke he’d be a perfectly decent middle-round selection to replace the gadget-esque role in the offense on the cheap.

I really wanted Ftzmagic as a backup but not at that price.

Happy Fitzpatrick Day

If you put Duke's value at a 4th round pick, which I think is around what he would garner, the Browns could move up 5-10 slots in the 2nd round according to the NFL Draft Value chart.. Similarly, if the Browns wanted to trade up from their 3rd rounder it would be 10-20 slots which could be late 2nd round area...
