2019 Series #14 | Indians @ White Sox | May 13th and 14th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because after an unexpected hot start (13-4 on April 13), they are the trending towards the team everyone expected (8-19 since) and figure to be out of contention come July. They are in the midst of a rebuild and would seemingly be willing to eat salary in a "lost year" to get back a prospect. They already showed a willingness to do it in their trade with the Mets.

But I do think it is complicated. Edwin's prorated salary at the deadline will be ~$10m + his $5m buyout. How much of that are the Indians willing to pay? The more $ the Mariners eat, the better the prospect they will require. Is that worth it for 2-1/2 months of a player? How much better does that make the Indians' lineup?

Also, for what it is worth, I believe Tampa Bay is already paying for $5m of his salary.

At the deadline I get, but the comment about "sooner rather than later" doesn't make sense to me. I think he'll definitely be on the move come July, but I'm not convinced the Indians can wait that long.

Agreed on both fronts there.

Also as far as Edwin goes, the 2 teams "in contention" that look like they could use a DH upgrade are Tampa and Cleveland. So if Seattle moves him, they will have to be prepared to eat salary

Edit- I guess 1B upgrade for Tampa. I thought Choi was their DH

Didn't the Indians get rid of EE to cut payroll? Bringing him back in May doesn't really make sense from that perspective unless Seattle is going to eat the bulk of his contract, but why would they do that?

I am not saying it would exactly be EE, but they are looking for a RH power bat to put in the lineup and Seattle isn't keeping him this season, so a trade isn't actually out of the question. He is well liked still by the guys here and whatnot so it wouldn't hurt us any if we went and got him back that way.

Also if Seattle eats all or part of his contract for a solid prospect it is a win for them in the end since they are rebuilding. We have a ton of talent in certain positions in our farm system, so its no question we can acquire him back without many issues. The biggest question is do we want to pay to put an older RH power bat like his in the lineup?

I don't think the Indians can wait long either, so thats why I personally feel we need to make the move soon rather than wait. Not a ton of options though this early in the season is part of the issue, so thats another factor in as well.

Really welcome sight to see the offense pouring it on today. Think they’ve already got three or four homers on the day.

Right on cue, Jose with another bomb!

String together some games like these and fix our horrible averages, maybe jump in 1st place during the process.

Nice to see everything click today.

Needed this one today.

More of that please. Hoping this jumpstarts some of them.

Team is dumpster trash.

2-28, the only 2 hits came from Lindor. Jose is batting 5th now, his bat is very much dead. Kipnis, Cargo, dead bat Jose, the middle of the order is awful. Especially now with Santana coming down to earth from his scorching start, that's when a guy like Jose is supposed to get scorching hot.

It's hell.
You reap what you sew. They put everything into the rotation. With the injuries and inconsistencies, now they are in trouble. It won’t be easy to fix their issues.

It actually may not be as hard as you think. They have been better since Lindor came back and I think you add another solid piece in the lineup that bats 1-3 I think the rest of the lineup will start setting itself. Jose and Kipnis are hitting career lows and they will improve in due time. Martin is facing lefties way too much (.154 against them compared to .248 against righties), so having a Luplow against LH will help immensely. I think if we add an Eaton (1-2 guy) or a 3-4 (Brantley/EE) then that will force one of the struggling guys to get pitches and eventually they will come out of it. i know I sound optimistic, but we really need one more all-star style of hitter and we should be fine in the end.
