2019 Series #7 | Indians vs. Braves | April 20th and 21st

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hand is good. Wittgren has been good. Cimber had been good before tonight. Olson hasn't been that great this year, but he does have a multi-year track record of getting LHB out consistently. So that's four guys.

The biggest issue in the pen is that Perez might be washed and none of the Otero/Ramirez/Anderson triumvirate is trustworthy.

I assume Clippard is going to get called up here really soon to replace one of Anderson/Ramirez with the other being replaced when they recall Rodriguez to be the 5th starter again.

Then we're on Perez watch. The Indians guaranteed him 2.5M and I'm sure they're not dying to eat that money, but I don't know how much longer they can let him flail around either.

Honestly I agree with you outside of Otero, who outside of today actually has been good. He is a ground ball pitcher so he will always give up hits, but he has been getting guys out. Olson and Perez willl get more time since they are our only lefties. Hentges hasn't been strong this season, so we really don't have anyone else major league ready from the left side.

Anderson I thought they were going to put back into the rotation/stretch him out. He hasn't pitched since tommy john so its almost too soon for him to be 100% back to game speed. I think its too early to tell anything from him just yet.

We are all hoping someone like Wittgren/Clippard becomes the 8th inning guy, but I don't have high hopes for Oliver this season, so I don't doubt if we trade for a bullpen arm, it will be from the left side if Oliver Perez keeps struggling this season.

AJ Cole and Karinchak have looked good in the minors. so they may end up being the next guys up when it comes to bullpen arms. Most of us who do the minor league thread wouldn't even be afraid to get Karinchak to the pro team sooner rather than later.

@Marcus, the double headed did affect who we could put out, but we still need to have someone else be able to step up when our 7th inning guy like Cimber struggles. We still need a veteran to just come in and do the job needed to settle things down. Francona maybe kept Cimber in to long and that happens sometimes. It is a 162 game season and it will be corrected before the playoffs, just still a crappy loss.

All 6 relief pitchers tonight should line up to get pissed on by Bauer. They threw his quality start down the toilet, because none of them have any nads. They should all take their medicine from Bauer.

Seriously. I often wonder what a clubhouse looks like after a loss like that. 6 relief pitchers. All shit themselves. Do they ask them, “So guys - did you notice IMMEDIATELY when the turd started to slide down your legs, or did it take a few seconds?”

Do you ever post when things are good? :banghead:

Cimber struggled today, and that is that, and we didn't have anyone else who pitches in high leverage situations left in that pen. This was the issue going into the off season. One of the guys we projected to be here right now, Clippard, is still coming back from injury. It is a long season and we will be fine, still a crappy loss and hopefully one that says to the guys shape up, or ship out, while tells the FO, they gotta find some more help here soon.

It's baseball there is 162 games it's hard to get too worked up over a single loss but I have to tell you this one has me really upset.

Bauer up 7-0...........I mean that is 99+ win%. Imagine if that was a playoff game. Your at home no less. JFC.

In a playoff game, we have the full bullpen, in game 1 we used our best two weapons, then Otero and Ramirez who have been solid bullpen arms, we already used. Cimber wasn't getting any low calls plus having control issues. He has been solid until today's game, so I expect a bounce back next game. Then Cimber going badly, put everyone else in a bad spot and the rest is history. It is a bad loss, but how they recover from this is what matters in the end.

I do, in fact. Though, admittedly, I am more prone to get pissed-off about failures than I am to get elated about successes.

But you don’t have to have an undue focus on negative events to look at this game and note that 6 pitchers, each of whom gets paid a lot of money to throw a baseball, completely soiled themselves. It’s like, come on - do your job. Tito, too - Cimber has been unreliable since he came over, and Otero, Perez, and Anderson have been messes for a year. You didn’t have to be Nostradamus to see what was going to happen there...

Cimber has actually been really good this season, look at his numbers before today started. Otero actually hasn't given up a run before today, and honestly if it was Otero and not Cimber out there late, we still would have won. He isn't one to give up very many runs, though he is a ground ball pitcher, which are prone to give up hits. He pitches to contact, so it will happen, but he has actually been solid this season.

Perez to me doesn't look as sharp as last year at all and I am not high on him right now. We just have no other lefties to replace him, so hopefully he finds his groove. Anderson actually didn't pitch that poorly, but he was put into a bad situation against Atlanta's top hitters in Acuna.

If you are going to vent, at least look at what has been going on this season, not just this game.

My sample size is like the last 3 months of meaningful games. None of those guys has been reliable since about the middle of last summer.

ERAs for relievers are inflated, but before today, Cimber in 6.1 innings gave up one run, 2 hits, no walks and 6 SOs, so today really was just bad. Otero has given up one run, in 7.2 innings after today's appearance. It is a new season, so base things off of now, since baseball always has been a what have you done for me lately sport. My point was you aren't basing what you said on this season at all, when both actually have been good this year until today.

See, the thing here is though is that Tito doesn't directly control the roster. If he had his way, we'd still have Andrew Miller and Cody Allen guaranteed.

Oliver looks cooked. Cody Anderson is absolutely terrible. Cimber has been solid in his 1.1 years in the MLB, and Olson is a good LOOGY. Otero also has been reliable despite what the numbers paint him as.

Bad day all around, and our two best relievers were stuck in the pen because they pitched earlier. If you want to blame that on Tito, then fine, I kinda do too.

The Indians snatching defeat from the jaws of victory has been such a constant in my life that it's almost a comfort...almost.

Don't even care about the choke job, sucks for Bauer and his Cy Young run though. I feel terrible for that.

Our main problem will always be the bullpen this season. I'm expecting an arm or two around the deadline.

Considering they also have Hand from the left side (yes he’s a closer, but still lefty), I wouldn’t be so sure that the Indians are going to look to add another left handed relief pitcher if Perez continues to scuffle.

Most teams don’t keep three lefties in their pen as is.

Beyond that, a huge part of Perez’s value last year was that he got *right handed* batters out at any extremely high level (.104 BAA, .322 OPS against) as well.

Olson is more of a true LOOGY.

If Perez flames out, I'd look to just bring in the best overall relief pitcher possible, regardless of what side they throw from because you'd still have Olson for one-out situations.

People on teams generally won’t shit on their teammates for having a bad night.

That’s for heroes on message boards.
