I gotta say I hate the "he's young" excuse. He's 22 years old. He's an adult and a smart one at that. He can drink and have fun but he needs to understand he's in the public eye. He's a target. The media wants to catch him chugging bottles of champagne on a swan or doing shots of tequila off of some hot chick's ass. They are dying for that stuff.
I said this before, I don't necessarily mind him drinking and having a good time, most athletes are not model citizens. Where I will have a problem is if it effects his play on the field. TBD. Or he starts whining about the publicity. I got news for you Johnny, if you want to be the Johnny Football personality and love the fame it brings DO NOT complain about it when it works against you. I feel his words the other day were out of frustration about the attention he receives and that pisses me off because he clearly seeks attention in whatever he does.
odd you hate the phrase "he is young" then go right on and define the essence of the term.
hes young thats why he was defiant of the media coverage.
He young thats why he then decried the media coverage.
Hes young and he will probably try to hand it a million different ways as he gets pressureed from other sources.
but really phils .. who are you to tell this guy where to go and what to do in his off time.. how would you fill if your boss had someone follow you around and come back the next day and say "phil whats this about you stopping and getting three tacos and being rude to the cashier"
the guy is in the media . some of his teammates may think they know but they dont. Manziel transcends football and is a crossover celebrity
High profile parties is what this guy is into and will continue to be so.. maybe he will be a little bit smarter about but the result is still inevitable.
this is a the twitter age . social media is far mor invasive than any time in history.
Manziels teammates will just need to understand and mnimize any distraction by the media.. Manziel can minimize this exposure but only to so far.
most spots players dont have to deal with until they have done something on the pro level.. Manziel however is the protypical rich white boy who likes to party. the guy is the eternal underdog who has so far prevailed and people want to see how far it goes. He wasnt supposed to be the starting quarterback of a major college program. He wasnt supposed to be able to win the SEC. He wasnt supposed to be able to win the hesiman his freshaman year and he isnt supposed to succeed in the pros.
people talk about him being a poor role model.. guess what parents.. these are the influeneces your kid is gonna see in college and its up to you to try and prepare them for it not johnny manziel.
im tired of seeing people judging this guy. telling him how he should or shouldnt act
People have this preconceived notion that in order to be great at something whether its sports, acting or singing that they should have to sacrifice something.. noone sees what Manziel is sacrificing it and it bothers them.
When people get sanctimonuos about manziels off field behaviour maybe they should look within first
