Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And he'll mature into a man with time. He'll learn from his mistakes. But there's no point chronicling his weekends and fretting over him going out like many have in this thread.

He's 21. Can't be so hard on a young rookie.

I gotta say I hate the "he's young" excuse. He's 22 years old. He's an adult and a smart one at that. He can drink and have fun but he needs to understand he's in the public eye. He's a target. The media wants to catch him chugging bottles of champagne on a swan or doing shots of tequila off of some hot chick's ass. They are dying for that stuff.

I said this before, I don't necessarily mind him drinking and having a good time, most athletes are not model citizens. Where I will have a problem is if it effects his play on the field. TBD. Or he starts whining about the publicity. I got news for you Johnny, if you want to be the Johnny Football personality and love the fame it brings DO NOT complain about it when it works against you. I feel his words the other day were out of frustration about the attention he receives and that pisses me off because he clearly seeks attention in whatever he does.

People on this website have no spine, no backbone. You guys are the same people who were PISSED that Shaq and The Big Show had that choke-off during a WWE event. :chuckles:

odd you hate the phrase "he is young" then go right on and define the essence of the term.

hes young thats why he was defiant of the media coverage.
He young thats why he then decried the media coverage.
Hes young and he will probably try to hand it a million different ways as he gets pressureed from other sources.

but really phils .. who are you to tell this guy where to go and what to do in his off time.. how would you fill if your boss had someone follow you around and come back the next day and say "phil whats this about you stopping and getting three tacos and being rude to the cashier"

the guy is in the media . some of his teammates may think they know but they dont. Manziel transcends football and is a crossover celebrity

High profile parties is what this guy is into and will continue to be so.. maybe he will be a little bit smarter about but the result is still inevitable.

this is a the twitter age . social media is far mor invasive than any time in history.

Manziels teammates will just need to understand and mnimize any distraction by the media.. Manziel can minimize this exposure but only to so far.

most spots players dont have to deal with until they have done something on the pro level.. Manziel however is the protypical rich white boy who likes to party. the guy is the eternal underdog who has so far prevailed and people want to see how far it goes. He wasnt supposed to be the starting quarterback of a major college program. He wasnt supposed to be able to win the SEC. He wasnt supposed to be able to win the hesiman his freshaman year and he isnt supposed to succeed in the pros.

people talk about him being a poor role model.. guess what parents.. these are the influeneces your kid is gonna see in college and its up to you to try and prepare them for it not johnny manziel.

im tired of seeing people judging this guy. telling him how he should or shouldnt act

People have this preconceived notion that in order to be great at something whether its sports, acting or singing that they should have to sacrifice something.. noone sees what Manziel is sacrificing it and it bothers them.

When people get sanctimonuos about manziels off field behaviour maybe they should look within first

The kid could be the Zodiac killer for all I care I am at the point if he wins a games and SB I would be half tempted not to care. Basically everyone who gets down on this kid is basically saying they are or were perfect. Yeah he is more out there than your usual teen or player but for fucks sake if he comes in and wins who cares. With that who cares what he does when he is in uniform is the only time i will give a fuck about what he does. My fucking god have people become that jaded self entitled and egotistical we care more about what he does in his spare time than about what he does while playing? Give me a fucking break.

Where did I say he can't go out and have a good time? I actually said he can do it. My point is that he's by all accounts a smart guy. He knows what his actions bring him. He needs to understand how to control the situations he puts himself in so that these weekend stories don't get out. There are many other high profile athletes that don't get on TMZ every weekend. He can avoid it too.

Where I got torqued off yesterday was his complaining about the publicity. You can't be this ridiculous off the field Johnny Football personality living life to the fullest and then complain about it the next day because photos came out making you look ridiculous.

not sure if you watched the actual video but it certainly puts things in context.. they asked him about training camp and he said his teammates were tired of the hype and he was as well and he was working having a better control over it but he wasnt going to change.

doesnt sound like whining at all just a statement of fact. Manziel doesnt enjoy his football week ignored while everyone focuses on his weekends.

this was after he was asked about football legends chiding him

Talk is cheap, his actions will show if he's learning. I hope for him, for the Browns, for the NFL and for us the fans he does learn because going full YOLO every weekend is a bad idea no matter who you are.

I'll worry when it actually matters. Aka not the offseason.

that part doesnt seem to be th epart he is going to change. in fact he specifically said he wasnt gonna hide in a shell and would continue to live his life how he wanted to he just had to be smarter about it(aka videos flaunting money=bad idea).

Manziel is currently an a list celebrtiy and he will consistently get invited to a list parties and he will goto quite a few when he is able to.

as far as jumping on an inflatible swan.. i would probably do that myself sober.:chuckles:

Manziel also went to a chairty glf event and helped raise thousand of dollars for children cancer research in may.. was ths not a distraction to his football preparations?

not to mention a bunch of of charity appearances related to his team. LMLR and other organizations.

did these activities not distract him from his football duties.

I mean he should be holed up studying his playbook 24/7 right.

he could get injured playing his golf tournaments for charity.

and taking a 6 year old to a fashion show what an attention whore.

I have no problem with Manziel going to sporting events and a following after party.

I really dont care if someone catches him on camera making ailly videos.

or if he drinks expensive wine straight up

If manziel fails on the field it will because of the football reason that az keeps harping about not because his lifestyle.. why cause this is the same lifestyle that he had when he got here.

Alright, just take a breath and relax.

I agree- comparing excessive drinking to cancer charity golf events is a little ridiculous.

Classifying him as an A list celebrity should quickly make everyone realize that you don't understand the concept of what an A list celebrity is.

Unless of course you believe most A list celebs head to your local bro-bar and can't hold their liquor.

I dont see the difference bothactivities take away from his focusing on studying his playbook.

if he takes a weekend to goto houston and play a charity golf event or takes a weekend to go watch a sporting event both those activities .. A. have him traveling. B. see him not focusing on his football.

I think we all see the difference, some of us want to shut it out a bit to defend their team and the player.
