Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I mean it's a pretty invalid comparison.

He's never going to be the pocket passer Wilson is, which is why I'd classify that comp as hopeless. It's not meant to be offensive or come off as a dick, if you took it that way then my bad.

Anyone see the Manziel snickers commercial?

Seriously, #96 might be the worst casted character of all time. WTF

I don't really see a strong comparison between Manziel and Russell Wilson, but I wouldn't describe Wilson as a traditional pocket passer either.

He's led the league in throws from outside the pocket over the last two seasons, and last year took the longest to get rid of the football of any of the quarterbacks in the NFL. Anecdotally, one of the narratives leading up to the Super Bowl last year was that the way to stop Seattle's offense was to force Wilson to stay in the pocket and make his progressions.

Even though Manziel and Wilson aren't terribly similar players, there can be lessons learned from the way Seattle has deployed Wilson with skewing heavily towards play action throws, roll outs, and designed scrambles.

Eh, I'm not sure I agree. Russell Wilson and Manziel have similar physical tools and shortcomings. Wilson beats out Manziel when it comes to decision making and field vision. The later Manziel can compensate with creative play calling and timing routes, the former he'd have to naturally improve upon.

I think there's too many negatives for Manziel to realistically overcome, but if he's to be successful in the NFL, I'd bet largely on him being similar in style and production to Wilson. (Of course, Russell is a bit over-rated IMO as well... He's not a "great" QB like Manning, but rather a game manager who is supported by a phenomenal defense and running game. Two things which would help Manziel tremendously in acclimating to the NFL)

If the Browns season DOES go to shit this year, I just pray they suck enough where they're forced to take Mariota at the too of the draft.

Manziel is not the answer. I don't think he's even a backup worthy at this point. The footwork, the reads, the mechanics, the arm are just horrendous. He's a long term project at this point...

Moxie alert: Kenny Hill, Manziel's replacement putting up some incredible numbers against South Carolina.

Son of former Indians pitcher Ken Hill.

shocker. The hate piles on when he doesn't look so good, but everyone suddenly disappears once he does something good.

He ran well. That's about it.

Remember when he wouldn't be able to run in this league?
He can run, there is no doubt about that. He's not lightning fast like some people thought. He just won't be able to run the same way he did in college. He won't survive if he does.

Chicago had the 30th ranked defense last year... And none of the first stringers played at all today. Everything Johnny did should have been 'good' against these schmucks.

Instead he hung receivers out to dry, under threw multiple passes, terrible footwork, the list goes on and on.

To be honest... Id rather have Flipper, the ginger headed wonder boy. JFF makes grandpa Weeden look like a clear cut starter.

Lol. This thread is insufferable. People done with him after 4 preseason games playing with a bunch of bums. It disappoints me that fans would rather throw players under the bus to inflate whatever ego they have on the internet just so they can scream "I was right" instead of support a player and understand that they aren't going to come in and be an instant Drew Brees. Its a good thing nobody gave up on Peyton Manning after throwing 28 interceptions in his rookie season.

I'll see you all when Manziel is the leader of this team in the coming seasons and winning.

Trust me these 4 games have done nothing to change my opinion of Manziel. I hated him as a draft prospect. I hated him as a draft pick. I hated him in the QB competition. I'd like nothing more to be proven wrong because that means we have a QB for the first time in a LONG time. However; my opinion remains the same, I don't think he's going to be any good and we will soon regret the pick.

The hype Manziel gets when he takes an easy passing play and makes it significantly harder is insufferable.

Seriously. Nobody is expecting him to be an All-Pro today. We do expect him to make the throws a high schooler can make, and today, he didn't.... and he wasn't even close.

Nobody would have an issue with him today if the mechanics, footwork and reads had improved, like they should have over the summer, but, by and large, Manziel is the same QB that he was at A&M and that's a significant issue. Tonight, he made two plays off of broken plays, ran for a few first downs but did NOTHING in the pocket while making three of the worst passes I've ever seen out of an NFL QB and missing countless others.

I'm not even a Manziel hater, I'm not a fan either, but I understand he's never going to be a prototypical QB and guys like him need to be unconventional to make it in the NFL but he's struggling with the most basic QB skills.
