22nd and 37th Pick Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Claiborne, J. Martin/Glenn, Jeffery/Randle

I like that people blame Jordan Jefferson for Randle's struggles yet fail to mention Jeffery had a drunk throwing him the ball at USeC.

Edit: One more thought - people are advocating taking Fleener with 22 but don't want Jeffery at 37 because he "might turn into a TE". He put up 148 yards on 4 catches in one half in the Capital One Bowl, simply abusing one of the top CBs in this draft.
To be fair and not come off as completely bias for Alshon, one of those 4 catches was a 50 hail mary before the half ended. But still, the way he went up and got that ball was very impressive.

Why not? I'm just wondering, I don't have a different thought necessarily.

Martin isn't good enough to be a LT, and isn't good enough of a run blocker to be a stud RT. If he didn't play for Stanford, he wouldn't even be considered in the first round.

Wright doesn't have the ability to be a #1 WR.

I trust Heckert to make smart decisions, and not buy into the few overhyped guys.

Alshon had first round talent.

It's the concerns about him that he will never live up to that talent that will prevent him from going where he could have gone.

Hell, if it weren't for the concerns about his weight and desire to play football, he'd be the #2 WR in the draft, ahead of Floyd.

However, in reality, he just isn't.

I like Alshon....I just like Randle more.

Too many questions for Alshon. How long can he sustain his body? I'm glad he got it down this year, but how sustainable is it?

Wright being a complimentary player seems to be the consensus opinion.

Seemingly a third round pick at this point...

Big smoke screen being played by GM's. Don't buy into that crap. With Floyd rising to a potential top 10 pick, do you honestly think Kendell Wright will fall to the third round?

I think he'll be taken somewhere between the 20th pick and the 45th pick.

I think he can be a Mario Manningham type player in the NFL. He'll be a good receiver, but never a number 1.

Them not being the same person, i would imagine they have their own stock and aren't lumped together.

Will you ever actually look at prospects as opposed to positions?

Can someone tell me why Randle is any better than the previous LSU receiver Toliver (who had similar production and went undrafted)? I don't watch film or anything, so my opinions are based on production numbers and measurables. Looking at production (which understandably can be inflated), why isn't anyone big on Criner (albeit a terrible 40-time)? I also favor Jeffery more than Randle, based on the things I mentioned above.

My opinions on Randle are based on what I've read from people who watch a lot of film (Greg Cosell is the most notable example). According to these scouting reports, Randle possesses two skills that will translate well to the NFL: route running and the ability to win one-on-one matchups. The common comparison is to Hakeem Nicks, who was drafted 29th overall by the Giants.

I didn't see this mentioned but what about Chris Rainey if he is still available in the 5th round. He has great speed and could be a slot receiver for us and could also become a kick/punt returner if Josh Cribbs doesn't do very well this season

Yes, but the issue is you believe that GM's look at it as just a prospect. When in reality you don't have that. You have GM's/teams that need to fill holes. I always hear take the BPA, yeah that works sometimes. In Parcell's draft confidential last year he talked about this.

This has nothing to do with what I think of Wright.

Did any of these experts tell you Victor Cruz is a beast or that Foster (I know he would have likely been a 2nd round pick if he hadn't got hurt) should be a top 10 pick? Or that Shady McCoy should be picked in the top 10? What about Tom Brady? Didn't think so...

No they said draft Ryan Leaf, J. Russell, William Green, Big Money Warren, Reggie Bush, Brady Quinn, ect...
