#241, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I would imagine he'll have a redshirt season to rehab much like SF did with Lattimore

No he's a CB correct ? Any chance he or Gilbert could become a safety to replace Whitner? Wtf would we do if both pan out?

If I recall San Fran took a similar flier on Marcus Lattimore (in 3rd or 4th), who missed entire rookie year. I still don't think he's up to speed, but it's nice to take a chance. Especially in the 7th.

Whitner is an in the box safety. Ifo and Gilbert are space guys. If you are talking about a move to safety it's most likely in place of Gipson. Gilbert is a true corner though so that isn't going to happen at any point in the first couple years of his career. There was talk about Ifo being switched to safety by some clubs.

My guess is Ifo is on the PUP list and we see what he gives us in a year.

I guess I'll take my question here: HTF did this guy fall to 7th round? I remember him talked about as a top pick. I know he got hurt, but I've never seen a free fall 7 rounds because of an injury. I mean, guys recover from that all the time, right?

Mike Mayock on Ifo - His Knee wasn't a simply ACL. It was much worse than Colvins and I don't want to say he won't play, but..

Mayock said Ifo Ekpre-Olumu's knee is shredded. He said its worse than Aaron Colvin a couple years back.

A few months ago, Oregon cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu was in the running to be the top-ranked corner, but then he suffered a knee injury during bowl practice before Oregon's game against Florida State. It was said to be a torn ACL, but team sources I've spoken to say the knee injury was much worse and was along the lines of Marcus Lattimore or Willis McGahee's rather than a simple ACL tear like the one suffered by Georgia running back Todd Gurley or Texas A&M offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi.

Sources say that Ekpre-Olomu tore more than an ACL and there was a variety of damage done to his knee. At one point, there were some teams' medical staffs that were wondering if lingering effects of the injury would force Ekpre-Olomu to retire before every playing again, like Lattimore. However, recent checks have been more positive and teams feel that Ekpre-Olomu has a shot at playing again.

The injury is significant enough, however, that some teams are putting Ekpre-Olomu in their undrafted prospect group. A contact from one team thinks that Ekpre-Olomu could have a shot at going on day three of the draft like Lattimore did, but their team doesn't have a round grade on Ekpre-Olomu because of the medical report. They have Ekpre-Olomu as an undrafted free agent as well

i still like it from a risk/reward standpoint...

For what it's worth, I was never really a big fan of Ifo as a prospect before the injury.

He's not the most fluid guy and his technique isn't great. He's aggressive in the running game, but his lack of size will prohibit him from ever being a starter in this league IMO

Do you think he can play safety ala honey badger?

I think he's more of a nickel player and special teamer.

Don't think he's as talented as Matheiu is in run support, and I'm not a huge fan of his either quite honestly.

Even if he never plays a down, it was still worth the risk.

I'm not a doctor but if the knee is that bad, he probably won't have the same kind of athletic ability even if he does recover. Probably more likely to end up at S.

Hmm. Worth a flyer with a 7th rounder vs. Trying to woo him as a UDFA. The fact teams shied away from him like this speaks to how they view the injury, so you know it was bad. About the right spot for a guy who has a question mark like that. He just might end up bring useful to the next GM and coach- unless they dump him as a vestige of the last FO, like they did with Charles Johnson.

When I watched him, he reminded me of good old Daylon McCutcheon. He plays bigger than he is, but there are advantages to having a strong run support corner back opposite a shut down corner. Hope he still has some meniscus left in that knee.

Any updates on him? Would love to see him in 2016 over a lot of the hot garbage we have currently.
