STRENGTHS: Highly effective collegiate left tackle who combines good quickness, strength and tenacity. More athletic than he looks, demonstrating light feet and balance to quickly fan outside to handle speed rushers. Plays on the balls of his feet and shows good lateral agility to mirror edge rushers.
Strong hands to latch onto defenders and usually contains them throughout the play. Good quickness for the down block and in getting to the second level in the running game. Shows impressive power to drive defenders off the line and will knock them to the ground when he feels them off-balance.

Competitive. Doesn't give up on the play, even if beaten initially. Handled top competition when given the opportunity, including in one-on-one matchups against UCLA's Anthony Barr.

WEAKNESSES: Doesn't possess the ideal length or build to remain at left tackle in the NFL and may be best served moving inside to guard - a position he never played at Nevada. Appears to have shorter-than-ideal arms, an issue that explains why Bitonio occasionally falls off blocks or is beaten with an effective over-arm swim move. Can get fundamentally lazy and stop moving his feet, allowing himself to get over-extended.

COMPARES TO: Marshall Newhouse, Green Bay Packers - Like the 6-4, 319-pound Newhouse, Bitonio's size looks better on paper than it does on tape, where his less-than-ideal arm length and thick middle seem to project best to guard. Also like Newhouse, however, Bitonio is surprisingly athletic and a savvy, competitive football player, who'll carve out a niche somewhere.

Cant't be any worse than pinkston. Hate spending high picks on lineman but had to fill that horrible hole at some point.

Yeah drafting Thomas and Mack has really hurt us.

A strong running game has more to do with the quality of the line than the quality of the running back. Love the pick, I hope the Browns can keep these guys together a long time.

Shit it might be my favorite pick thus far. I can finally shut the fuck up about addressing guard.

his dad fought MMA in the unregulated, mid-90s, bare knuckle days

toughness in those genes :p

We've got 2 1st and 2 high 2nd round picks on the line now. John Greco is the buzz kill, drafted in the 3rd round by another team..

Instant starter?

Absolutely. Dude has the nasty. Without his DaveK gator arms, he could have went in the first. Nice that he can shift back to tackle if we have to deal with injuries too. He'll get into the 2nd level and look to devour someone. This is a very nice pick.

The draft analysis contradicts itself. Never gives up on a play, but he'll stop moving his feet.

Well, you forget to add that he can get fundamentally lazy AND stop moving his feet. What you pointed out is not a contradiction, it is just stating that he needs to work on his footwork.

Don't know if this was facetious or not, but 'stopping your feet' is lineman lingo for not maintaining drive thru the point of attack. Never giving up on a play means he's going to blindside someone 5 yards down field once Isiah Crowell cuts back against the grain.

Bitonio answered one of the biggest questions of the minicamp: he will be playing guard. During practices, he’s lined up on both the right and left side.

"We’re ready to go. We’re trying hard to catch up to the older guys who have been in the system a few more weeks than us,” said Bitonio. The Browns talked about drafting competitive guys. He’s certainly one of them.*

Bitonio specifically mentioned Joe Thomas and Alex Mack by name as players who have been working with him in the meeting rooms.
