Sir'Dominic Pointer - A Cleveland Cavalier

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How am I ignorant?

Every name I just mentioned was white-centric. I hate Aiden. Can't believe I forgot it.

Here's the thing... While your friend is an asshole for naming her kid that because it sounds dumb and is not an accepted American name and she's probably not Greek, it's a real name in another language. Gaia is the female equivalent of Gaius, as in Gaius Julius Caesar.

Miz'unique, Sir'dominic, Barkevious and D'qwell are stupid fucking names. They're stupid because they're made up, difficult to spell, and don't make any sense from a grammatical perspective.

The trend of overuse of le, la and unnecessary apostrophes is specific to the last two generations of black people. Me saying that doesn't mean I'm being ignorant.

White people are guilty less of making up names than of naming their kids weak ass yuppie names.

I don't hate Wyatt because it makes me think of Earp, but I get your drift.

Can you give me some examples of made up white names? I want more to complain about.

It's ignorant because slaves took their masters names, their parents didn't get to name them. So when it became available it was like, "we make our own destiny" which is actually pretty awesome and admirable. Malcom X, Kareem. The most famous is Ali. He is where I am from Louisville, and Clay was the most respected African American name there was there. It carried weight. Below 1st the next street is Clay named after his ancestors not Cassius.

When you are talking about making up names it is. along history of improvisation and not buying into white bullshit. So yeah, you don't get a job, but is it any surprise that people don't want to be the white man's cog? Plenty of white people execute people in movie theatres for the same reasons.

Dumb spellings are the most common "white ways" of fucking up a name. Heard of Jaxon? Keesha? Bryan? Allyson? I even just found out Gaia is spelled Ghaia in this instance!! They just aren't straight going for it like black people, which IMO is a bigger sin.

I like you, but you look stupid with this and the hip hop culture thing to be honest. The most together dudes I have ever met are probably Snoop and Wacka Flocka. They have tq world on a string and they made up 2 stupid names that everyone loves and goes crazy for.

Ali is a real name. Kareem is a real name. Cassius is a real name. Clay is a real name.

All of these names you're mentioning have some kind of history and etymology.

Blacks started borrowing from Muslim culture at that time and changing to common Muslim names was a trend. These were all real names with meaning. Kareem Abdul-Jabaar means "Noble servant of the powerful one." I respect that name. It's meaningful and there's symbolism behind it. Awesome.

On the other hand, Barkevious LaCayden Alcindor means nothing.

I'm not beefing with people borrowing from other cultures for their names. Romans and Greeks have AWESOME fucking names. Cassius is one of them.

If my wife would go along with Julius or Marcus (more commonly black names now), I'd name a son that in a heartbeat.

When you are talking about making up names it is. along history of improvisation and not buying into white bullshit.

See above. What I'm talking about is... it's 2015. Languages have been established. Words have been established. These things have meaning now.

So yeah, you don't get a job, but is it any surprise that people don't want to be the white man's cog? Plenty of white people execute people in movie theatres for the same reasons.

Dude, I am not following this line of thought at all.

So yeah...you don't get a job with a bizarre name. That's a real thing. Are you suggesting I'm saying that people not getting jobs due to their name leads to theater shootings? Or that my irritation over stupid names means I'm going to shoot up a theater?

Right. I hate this just as much as the made up names. I edited my above post while you were typing this.

Brian is a real man's name btw, unless you're saying there's girls with the name Brian and we're expected to pronounce it "Bree-ann." In which case, that's white trash and stupid.

I like you, but you look stupid with this and the hip hop culture thing to be honest.

That's your opinion. The only thing I regret about the hip hop culture post (from 10 years ago btw) was that I called it hip hop. I should have called it rap. And what I said about rap then holds true about rap today. It's a dumb fucking culture. I think you'll find that my opinion on this isn't as unreasonable as you're making it out to be.

The most together dudes I have ever met are probably Snoop and Wacka Flocka. They have tq world on a string and they made up 2 stupid names that everyone loves and goes crazy for.

They are artists who operate in the entertainment industry. They made these stylized names up for themselves as part of their craft. These aren't given names that automatically put them behind the 8 ball in life. They've established their careers at this point. They know they're going to be rappers.

Both of those are awesome, iconic names within their own sphere of influence.

I'm not criticizing Marshall Mathers for being Eminem or Calvin Broadus for being Snoop. I'm criticizing stupid assholes for naming their kids stupid shit. Talking about given names.

As far as their talent...they're talented rappers and have developed tremendous brands for themselves. I don't have beef with their talent and success within their sphere either.

It's related tho. People see that Ali naming himself something else was worthwhile. They may have missed the point of reinventing yourself, but that's just because the renaming was the most obvious thing.

What are you saying? If your name is Shaquille and you happen to et famous tour name is cooler than Ramin ehonis not famous? How can you tell at birth if your kid is going to set the precedent or get thrown by the wayside?

People are uncomfortable with black culture because it is inherently less predictable. It is being made up as we speak because thy have no roots and that is what "Roots" is about. White culture systematically eliminated their links to the past. Making fun of people for creating a narrative after one was stolen from them is... Highly questionable. Saying here is a book of names to choose from after we eliminated your culture is an entitled statement.

Once snoop was a nobody and his name was stoopid. You can't revise that now and day it is all cool cause he made it. Nirvana is like one of the worst band names ever, but no one agrees with that because they were a good band.

Getting anywhere? Shakespeare said it best. We are who we ate, and it doesn't matter the name. What is your problem with this stuff again?

So what the fuck is Oi?

Reinvention is symbolic and I am cool with that.

What are you saying? If your name is Shaquille and you happen to et famous tour name is cooler than Ramin ehonis not famous? How can you tell at birth if your kid is going to set the precedent or get thrown by the wayside?

Shaquille is a variant of a real Arabic name. I dislike the made up spelling.

I am not uncomfortable with black culture at all. I'm uncomfortable with stupid people making stupid decisions and that applies to all colors. If I haven't proven that yet, I really can't. I just personally believe making up names for your kids is inherently ignorant and it does more damage than it provides advantage.

Once snoop was a nobody and his name was stoopid.

We're not on the same page here. For me, when it comes to entertainment all bets are off. Snoop was Calvin Broadus. I have no problem with the name Calvin. It's a real name.

You can't revise that now and day it is all cool cause he made it.

Snoop Dogg is a tremendous rap name. He happened to make it. I wouldn't have thought less of his stage name if he hadn't made it. It's awesome, particularly because of when he came up.

Nirvana is like one of the worst band names ever, but no one agrees with that because they were a good band.

Really? I always thought it was a good band name. I thought the band was over-rated though.

Getting anywhere? Shakespeare said it best. We are who we ate, and it doesn't matter the name. What is your problem with this stuff again?

No doubt.

But Shakespeare's work existed within a fantasy world.

I could name my kid "Turdburglar Douchehard," and is he just the same as everyone else once judgments of others are taken into account?

On the topic of Billy Shakespeare, if I have another son, I'm going to name him Othello.

You have to tell us your real name now, so we can judge it. Mine is Alex
