#6 Ohio State vs Illinois

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just got home from the game. It was awesome. Turner's whole family was there and they are very nice people. The celebration on the court was great, probably one of the coolest things I have been a part of.

Kansas State plays at Kansas and Duke plays Maryland this weekend and tomorrow I believe. Kansas State is top five. Duke is top four. If one or both lose their games, OSU will leap above them in the polls on Monday. Kansas and Kentucky are already locks for a one seed. Two one seeds are to be determined yet. I'd say Ohio State has a damn good chance at a one if they win the Big Ten Tourney.... especially if either Kansas State or Duke loses this week.

Syracuse is going to get a #1 as well. So it really only leaves 1.

Duke needs to lose 2 more times, IMO. If they lose to MD, but then win the ACC Tourney, they'll get a #1.

Nova plays WVU. The winner of that game is likely ahead of OSU, and will have to lose in the BE tourney.

I don't really think a #1 is realistic, even if we run the table. I just don't see the committee giving a team with 7 losses a #1 seed. Running the table should definitely get us a #2 seed though.

Subtract four of those loses when the team was without Turner and you have a 31-3 record. The committee looks at that and knows that's a fact. The committee looks at the last half of the season and gives that half more creed for sure. This happens every year. I believe Ohio State ended up 14-1 or something like that. DAMN GOOD... maybe the best of any top team. If they win 3 more in a row and the big ten tourney, how can the committee not consider them as a 1 seed? oops; I believe WVU was in there as well, so two loses.

If OSU finishes in the top four in the polls, that's also a reason to be considered a one seed.

It's not how you start, but how you finish that matters.

Well, we got 2 good results. KState got beat soundly, and Duke goes down @ Maryland.

Duke still needs another loss. And if KState were to beat Kansas in the B12 Final, they'd still have a legit chance at a #1. So still a ways to go.

Oh SHIT. That's great news! Ohio State might jump to #4 in the polls on Monday. Now I truly do believe if we win the big ten tourney we get a #1 seed. Keep in mind the committee relies greatly on the mantra of "what have you done lately?"

Well, if KSU runs the B12 tourney, it could be wins versus TxA&M, Okie State Kansas (or sub in some combo of Texas, Missouri and Baylor for the 1st 2). Thats a pretty strong "lately" resume.

Yes, but they won't run it. They won't beat Kansas. That's like saying Purdue can do the same but they have to get by Ohio State to do it.

Steve Lavin has Ohio State as the last #1 seed right now edging out Duke. Ohio State has a real shot locking up that last #1 if they run the table.

If they do win out and get the last one seed, the committee probably gives them the farthest away regional of any one seed. Considering the top three are going to be teams from the East and midwest/south, it may mean OSU goes to the West regional. This year, the West regional may also mean the weakest regional considering a team like New Mexico might be the 2 seed out there and with many teams in the West consisting of other western type teams. If we think about it, teams out west are not strong. Think Pac 10 this year.

Added:

I think I'm putting the cart before the horse in talking about one seeds, etc. Having to win 3 games in three days is brutal with a lack of depth on the bench. Matta is going to have to change things up a bit and get a few minutes rest for his other four starters in the first and second games if at all possible. If not, a player who plays close to 40 minutes in the first two games has got to be tired in the last game. NOT a good thing.

Next year won't be a problem with depth at all. LOL Just think if Turner happened to come back? OSU would have ALL five starters for this year coming back next year, along with three top recruits who should be able to step right in and play as well. Wow. Even if Turner leaves the depth of next year's team is off the charts.

Hey, check your PM's.

Kansas State just lost again so we won't have to deal with them on getting a #1 seed.. Just Duke now

After looking at it, I think we also have to fear a second team from the Big East, be it Nova, WVU or Pitt.

To go all Rabman on your
Team|RPI|SOS|RPI 50|RPI 100|SUB100 Loss
Buckeyes|28|66|5-4|8-6|_ichigan
Duke|2|7|8-4|17-4|none
Pitt|10|10|6-3|14-6|Indiana
Nova|9|23|4-5|13-5|none
WVU|5|2|6-4|16-6|none
WVU, especially, would have a daunting profile, considering they beat us head-to-head....

With all the loses in the top ten the last week, it will be interesting to see the polls on Monday. We know Kansas State will fall out of the top five...Duke might as well, but how many positions does OSU go up?... or any at all? They were #6 last week.

Nova lost to WV yesterday so they are out. WV would be the one team that might beat out OSU for a one seed even if OSU wins the big ten tourney next weekend.

Problem with the BE teams is that between Syracuse, Pitt, WVU and Nova, the winner of the tourney will likely beat 2 of those teams. Thats 2 Top 10 RPI wins on a neutral court*. OSU's best competition would be Wisconsin and either MSU or a Hummel-less Purdue.

*Is it just me, or is the BE Tourney the best basketball that the Garden sees all year?
