#77, Duke Johnson, RB, Miami

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Browns fans: Crowell and West weren't good last year.

It would be dumb to go into next season with Duke Johnson, Isaiah Crowell, and Terrence West as the only running backs.

The Browns should bring in guys to compete with Crowell and West.

"What he brings: He isn't going to be a bell-cow back, but he projects as a very good change-of-pace runner with his quickness, speed and open-field running ability. He's one of the best pass-catchers of all the running backs in this class. There is some concern about his durability and whether he can consistently stay on the field."

Game's on the line. Need a yard. Johnson's out. Who do you trust between Crowell and West not to fumble the ball away in a clutch situation?

Counting on Crowell and West improving is foolish. I don't mean that in a pessimistic way. I mean they've shown what they could do last year and until they actually show improvement, the Browns should take them for they've shown themselves to be.

The Browns should make Crowell and West earn their spots with improved play.

I don't understand what's controversial about this.

It's weird to me you all are so opposed to this.

Expecting growth is great. I hope and expect they will get better next year as well. They have tons of upside.

Until they prove it, they are what they are. It would be dumb to go into next season with Duke Johnson, Isaiah Crowell, and Terrence West as the only running backs.

Nailed it!!!!! That last post got two "olds" btw.

What exactly were you right about?

They've basically decided to go into the season with Crowell and Johnson and dumped West.

They're looking for running backs because of injury.

They're clearly comfortable with Crowell and Johnson, so long as they're healthy.

Do you suspect that Crowell will get the nod and Dookie will get minutes in garbage time?

Almost as certain as I am that you'll painfully regurgitate terrible nicknames that stopped being funny months ago.

I'm sorry, but Tom Reed is a total fucking hackjob. He had the most garbage article of all time on Cle.com this morning.

"Scrambling?" They're faced with an injury and dealt an immature, underperforming second year back.

We still have our #1 and #2 backs that will play the entire season, how are we "scrambling?"

Way to fear monger.

With names like Ahmad Bradshaw, Ray Rice, and Pierre Thomas out there, I'm sure we will be just fine.

Have heard some rumblings that the team is looking into signing Curtis Martin because of his knowledge of the Jets... Wouldn't be surprised if he is used in passing situations. Team seems to think he still has a few 1,000 yard seasons in him. Also don't know how credible, but someone in the break room today said his niece is Mike Pettine's daughter (no relation to Pettine himself), but he said they were giving carries to Mingo for goal line situations, and were even thinking about running the 'wild Mingo' with him taking direct snaps.

We'll see what happens!

Yes, our 2nd year RB who averaged 9 carries a game last year and our rookie RB who is still undergoing concussion protocol after his first preseason game won't at all put us in a potential scramble position without a 3rd RB.

Good game.

Instinct and intuition say Crowell's workload last year is irrelevant.

When the posts turn into one line personal attacks for a page, its time to take a break and walk away. Crabbyshark has moments where he has good ideas, but they are framed in a troll-baiting and personal attack writing style. That has to stop. He is taking a break.

There is plenty to discuss about the running back situation with the Browns without the discussion going personal. In the short-term, I don't see a huge problem. They can get by for one week with Crow and Johnson as long as Johnson passes his concussion tests. If he doesn't pass, I agree there is reason to be alarmed. The Jets aren't a very good team, but they are a stout front seven defensively. Historically, they have been tough to run against.

I thought Pierre Thomas would be a good match for what Flip wants to do: He blocks like a fullback, holds his own running the ball between the tackles, and catches passes naturally. The question with Thomas and a few of these other names: Are they in playing shape right now? If not, the Browns might be better off with Shane Draughns because he knows the playbook.
