#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The solution isn't to trade them for established players, the solution is to DRAFT BETTER.

Of course that is the proper solution, but I have little to no confidence in this regime or the next regime's ability to do any better than the four regimes before them...

Which is why we shouldn't be afraid to trade the picks for established players. We've rarely drafted worth a damn...

That's a deep issue that if not resolved, means you will not ever win anything regardless.

Meh, Mingo's looked a lot better & I still think Gilbert will be worth the pick, but yeah, the rest of those are pretty brutal.

The first round looks brutal, but I actually give Farmer the benefit of the doubt here.

No doubt Gilbert has struggled, but CB is easily the hardest position to adjust to in the NFL. Especially with all these new rules giving the receivers the advantage. I'm not writing him off yet, he was the top prospect at his position coming out.

Manziel I still think was a Haslam call. It concerns me that the owner is meddling, I only hope he doesn't become Jerry Jones.

Farmer hit on a lot of mid and late round picks, and had great success with UDFAs. This was his first draft. Yes the first round is concerning, but I really do believe he only made one of those picks.

Jury still out on Manziel and Gilbert obviously, but going by today? Yikes.

No...we should save our picks so we can draft another DT in the middle of the first round like Phil Taylor and then wait to the third round to take a WR because it's better value.

CBs are the hardest position to develop...tell that to Roby, Verrett, and Fuller. They have all been so much better than Gilbert. I think they fell in love with his combine numbers.

I remember reading that we liked his size in general (thought he could be Sherman like).

People adapt at different speeds. I'd take Gilbert's athleticism over any of the guys you named. Just because some people have early success doesn't mean they all will. Haden is one of the best in football, he was pretty miserable until the end of his rookie year. He got far more playing time than Gilbert has.

Gilbert's development is likely being hindered by his lack of game action. The Browns had enough depth to not force things with him until the recent injuries to the secondary.

Gilbert wasn't the consensus top corner. That's one of the reasons it pains me that they took him so high and traded up to get him. The one thing that might have gave him the edge over Fuller/Dennard was his size. I don't know about you guys but I'm so sick of seeing 5'6 Buster Skrine trying to guard 6'4 receivers. It gives me some hope that they are trying to get bigger at corner with the addition of Gilbert (6'2) and Desir (6'3).

Desir is 6'1, Gilbert is 6'0, Skrine is 5'10

Ive never seen a team worst than the browns at first round drafting. Seriously, its so god damn sad. 14 freakin years of just pitiful picks.

Could have sworn I've seen Desir listed at 6'3" and Gilbert at 6'1" before...anyways, I like to exaggerate. And you are correct on their official measurements, of course. Still better than 5'10" guys.

Mike Pettine said Gilbert and rookie halfback Terrance West "didn't have a very good week" in preparation.

Basically Gilbert was benched for disciplinary reasons, for those wondering why he wasn't out there.

Mingo has looked better. I'm actually happy with his improvement this season. Still, he and Gilbert are two players that the Browns really need as difference-makers.

The 6th and 9th picks... We should really be watching them jump off the screen week-to-week. We shouldn't have to dig for silver lining, although I'll continue to.
