#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought Gilbert was the CONSENSUS #1 corner in the draft?

What is all these people now saying Dennard and Fuller were better?

Because Kiper, Mayock and McShay don't have him atop their list.

Gilbert's size and fluid hips made him so impressive at the combine. He can absolutely be a lock down guy one day, and has performed admirably against some really good competition.

Guy weaponizes the rest of the defense, theoretically. Third down defense should improve, which killed us last season.

He'll take some pressure off Haden and Skrine

Skrine will be a nickel back like he should be.

And Pettine said last night that he was their number one corner and it wasn't close because of elite press man skills.

Justin Gilbert just seems like a good dude. Like him a lot.

Fuller is extremely smooth (shy's away from contact)
Dennard is extremely phyiscal (awful, awful hands)
Gilbert is the jack of all trades. He won't hit, but he's not afraid of contact. Does it matter when you have saucers for hands, insane tracking ability, elite make up speed?

When you play against the best in shell drills, it only helps :chuckles:

How's Justin Gilbert compare to Haden going into the draft? Do you take rookie Haden or Gilbert?

Depends on what you look for. Haden really bombed his combine drills and was considered "slow" by some. However his game tape has always been fantastic.

Gilbert struggled his junior year but was really great his senior and sophomore year, and his combine performance was incredible.

I would say that Haden showed better, more refined skills, but Gilbert is the better long term prospect. I would probably take Haden over Gilbert, but it's close.
