#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No, not really. Skrine has no issue playing corner and nickel. Gilbert not being able to play it is an excuse, or if he really cant, more depressing.

Let it go, man. You're making a fool out of yourself. Get some perspective, please.

Skrine is a 4th year vet and has been bouncing between the #2 and nickel positions for the past two years.

Gilbert, like most rookies, is trying to learn ONE position. When Skrine walks this offseason, we're gonna want Gilbert to know everything possible about playing outside CB, not some nickel position he'll never play again in his career.

am i confusing him with kickoff returns then? or was that freshman year, too

Yes.

He returned kicks every year, punts only his freshman year.

I'm just glad we have one rookie DB good enough to play. I'll pretend we drafted K'waun Williams 8th overall and Gilbert is the UDFA. Makes me feel a lot better.

You wouldn't have to feel so bad if you understood what people have been telling you in the first place instead of saying "that's an excuse."

Pretty simple, Gordon's size and skill-set make him a bad fit for covering people in the nickel. Your whole premise has been faulty from the start.

Is K'waun Williams actually good or are we just overreacting to him because Gilbert hasn't shined?

He's been more than effective playing the nickel, grading out way above positive in two games thus far.

Did anyone listen to Mike Pettine's press conference today? He said it was "common knowledge" that had we stayed at #4 Sammy Watkins would've been the pick. I found it interesting. Still like Gilbert and Buffalo's #1 next year but definitely a fun hypothetical.

Imagine if we made the trade and just got Beckham Jr instead...

I mean, to be honest, I like the Gilbert pick. I think he will become a good NFL cornerback. Furthermore, I'm not sure a receiver like Beckham or Watkins would really have improved our team this year. I just thought it was funny that Watkins was our target at #4.

Really wasn't huge on adding another receiver via early in the draft, guys with Watkins size and skill-set rarely meet those expectations enough to justify the draft position.

Though he may have been the BPA.

I felt a solid #2 cornerback was a bigger need than an elite wide receiver during the draft. I therefore loved the trade out. While the value if that Buffalo first is an unquestioned ruby, Gilbert's slow acclimation to the #2 role has been quantified with Gordon's suspension. If the season was going to be lost because of it, it would have happened already. Luckily the wheels haven't fallen off and Gordon returns for the challenging last push of the regular season.

I'd rather have Gilbert and a second first-rounder next year to play with. The book on Gilbert isn't written yet, and we can always grab a receiver with one of our two picks next year if we decide it's a pressing need. Given how our supposedly awful receiving corps has looked pretty solid in Shanahan's offense, it clearly wasn't as pressing a need as we thought. Plus, we should have Gordon back next year.

Huh, so all the "experts" & fans who were freaking out & calling Farmer a moron for not drafting a WR, let alone drafting one early, were pretty much overreacting...

Who'd a thunk it?

You should know that, as Browns fans, we are obligated to freak out at least once per week, preferably more.

Just wait until an Ebola victim visits Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Will be like Christmas for some of you.
