A closer look at Harrison Barnes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like the video. Although they show that left handed tip in twice!

Barnes isn't afraid of contact, actually uses his growing strength and body quite well. His ability to score off the dribble is intriguing (and yes I think he can get that off in the NBA because of head fakes and he goes up quickly enough with it to release it, not a lot of waiting) at the small forward position. I like his finishing, the way he reaches for the basket with a little extra length that seems to come out of nowhere (body contortion), a trait I've seen in some other successful NBA players.

And last, I think the ability to shoot the ball is overlooked these days. We may end up going against teams with Durant and Harden type players in the playoffs. He's already ahead of most of his draft class, and if he's the worker they say it will get even better I presume. 3 is more than 2, and a key to comeback wins. It'd be nice to not have to cringe when guys not named Kyrie or Boobie are shooting the ball.

The brand stuff is a little scary. But other than that he looks like a basketball player.

I don't believe MKG will be available to us either at 4 or through a trade up. Obviously, Davis will be gone, too. I would take Drummond before Barnes, but not necessarily Beal (the words "combo-guard" keep ringing in my brain). I don't want Robinson because I don't want us to double up on PFs at 4 in back-to-back drafts and I have questions about his size and athleticism at the next level. Drummond has questions of his own to answer, but I'll never be close enough to him to get those answers (motor, will, work ethic, does he/will he like contact?). To me, Barnes and Lamb are the "safer" picks - both are good size for their positions in the NBA, both can shoot the ball well with range, both are decent, at least, defenders, and either one would fill a need for a growing young team. OTOH, I think people may be projecting a little too much Dwyane Wade onto Beal because they "want to" see it. I don't see it.

I just have this awful feeling that Barnes is going to be the pick. It's going to set the franchise back 2-3 years if they do it...

Back as opposed to what other option at the 4 spot? Who is your pick for the Cavs at this spot?

I'm an MKG fan but doubt he makes it that far. I'll have to "settle" for one of these other talented basketball players joining the Cavs. Who won't "set us back"?

If Davis/MKG/Beal are gone, I think I take Barnes. If we take Drummond, and he doesn't pan out; it would set our franchise back for a decade. If we take Barnes, and he is a solid pro for his career, we lose much less.

Plus as bad as it sounds, I think his friendship with Kyrie will help keep him in Cleveland for a long time.

good lord, do people really believe things like this?

I actually hope we draft Barnes so that Mdog1 will stick to his word and stop being a, "fan."

Maybe Barnes wasn't the Kobe-esque player that scouts unrealistically compared him to coming out of High School, but it's not like he struggled in college. The kid played at UNC against the best college competition the USA has to offer, and also played with several other future-NBA players who demanded a shot or two themselves.

Barnes may not be the #1 option for the Cavs, but I don't understand how ANYONE can say it's a bad pick before it even happens. Put this kid next to Kyrie, someone who can get to the rack at will, and you'll see how good Barnes can be in the league.

As good as most spot up shooters who play with great PGs?

What's so shocking?

It wouldn't be a decade maybe 4 years. I agree though if we miss on this draft it's going to be a long time before we are contenders unless we tank next year.

OK seriously, everyone needs to quit the nonsense. Yeah you are free to say whatever the hell you want but it's getting old. He's not solely a spot up shooter, other PROFESSIONAL organizations wouldn't have him in the top-10. He's there for a reason. He has talent, just as well as every other player in the top-10. So just drop it.

Debate something else.

It's actually jaw dropping when people call him "just a spot up shooter". I really never thought that a board full of such intelligent people could honestly be so dumb.

Your entire argument for Barnes has been because he's slotted to go early in the draft, so he must be good. As opposed to looking at how he can't create off the dribble, he can't even dribble, he can't get to the rim, he's athletic but it doesn't show in games, and his best attribute is his mid range game, which is not ideal considering its the worst type of shot to take and you're taking him at #4.

If we miss on this draft we are going to tank anyways.. Who is going to help Kyrie win games? uhhhhhh, because I have no idea.

Umm how does drafting Drummond and him not working out set us back a decade?
