Alonzo Gee: Mr. April!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Semi-finalists. (8 Playoff teams, we were #7, beat #2, and almost beat #3) I think we know how to build a minor league team quite well. Most of them won't be back to pursue bigger and brighter things. So, we'll see if we can do better.

I'm not so quick to judge the Cavs and how they'll do, but they're keeping Gee. Gee is worth it and they'll come to a fair deal. At least he'll get the pay day he deserves.

lol it was year one.

All he's doing is hurting himself if that's the case.

were not gonna bid against ourselves. nobodys offered him shit yet

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Landry Fields getting 3 years, $20 Million kind of threw the market out of whack IMO for a guy like Gee.

That is the comp I am sure he is going to use in negotiations as he actually had a better statistical season than Fields.

Have Gee been on any visits yet?

If it's true, this is pretty stupid on Gee or his agent's part, to be honest. The number attached to the Cavs QO is low specifically to prevent him from accepting it and becoming an unrestricted free agent next year. If he wants to become unrestricted, well sign it and don't whine. The reward would then come next year.

Instead, Gee's agent should be out getting a high-$, multi-year from a new team, which will force the Cavs into deciding whether to match it. This report either means they don't know what they're doing or that no team has offered a high $ contract yet. No team has the responsibility for offering a high-dollar QO. Complaining about the QO, or even spending any time worrying about the QO, is just a waste of time.

The other possibility is that the TV reporter got it wrong and that Gee is very underwhelmed at the Cavs's contract offer. That seems a more likely reason to go to the press, though I'm not sure what it would mean other than that Gee hasn't gotten better contract offers from other teams.

I agree with the post above that the Fields deal was ridiculous and would probably make Gee's agent dream of something similar.

If someone offers Gee 20 million i'll pack his bags for him. He is simply not worth that much. Giving Gee 20 million over three years is as bad/worse than signing Batum for the max.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Going into this offseason, there was a ridiculous amount of money that teams had to spend compared to years past. A combination of teams freeing up space plus the amnesty clause, there has not been nor will be again soon, a better time to be a free agent. Fields? Hibbert? Let the monkey GMs spend their dollars this week. You shouldn't get involved in that. Wait until the dust settles a bit and see what's left. There's a good chance there won't be much left this year, but so be it.

Is that John Telich's attempt at breaking Cavs news? The QO is the first step in the UFA process, and I doubt that Gee was ever planning to play in summer league.

The kind of bad thing is... if we don't sign Gee back, we're down to Casspi and... Walton as our 3's for the year.

We'd almost be forced to sign somebody like Sonny Weems.

Do Alonzo Gee and his agent understand what the qualifying offer is and how it works? Horrible. I hope Telich is fudging this story, or else I could be a better agent than whoever Gee hired.

He's listed as the secondary agent for Aaron Brooks. Other than that, his only other NBA client is Renaldo Balkman.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Can someone quickly explain how his QO was for 2.7 million? I thought that it would only need to be for like 1million dollars. I'm assuming that there is a reason for it to be 2.7M?

If he signs the QO, can't we retain him next season as well since he will only have 3 years in at that point?
