Can someone quickly explain how his QO was for 2.7 million? I thought that it would only need to be for like 1million dollars. I'm assuming that there is a reason for it to be 2.7M?

If he signs the QO, can't we retain him next season as well since he will only have 3 years in at that point?

I dont know why his QO is listed for 2.7M it shouldnt be that high.

Gee has already been in the league 3 years.

With the summer approaching, new details of the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement figure to become relevant over the next few weeks, slightly modifiying the usual process for free agency. One such change will impact the qualifying offers teams extend to free agents this offseason, based on a newly-defined "starter criteria."The new CBA describes a "starter" as either starting 41 games or playing 2,000 minutes in a season, and rewards players for meeting those criteria. If a player achieved one of those benchmarks in the season prior to his free agency, or averaged one of those benchmarks in the two seasons leading up to his free agency, his qualifying offer will be affected as follows:​

• A top-14 pick who does not meet the starter critera will receive a same qualifying offer equal to 120% of the amount applicable to the 15th overall pick.
• A played picked between 10th and 30th who meets the starter criteria will receive a qualifying offer equal to 120% of the amount applicable to the ninth overall pick.
• A second-round pick or undrafted player who meets the criteria will receive a qualifying offer equal to 100% of the amount applicable to the 21st overall pick.

100% of the amount applicable to the 21st overall pick is $2,695,391.​

Glad they took care of the players like that, now if they want to jet, they can take a higher salary for one year, then escape the abyss they're stuck in (to avoid being a restricted free agent). Hopefully, we aren't an abyss, but places like Washington, Sacramento, etc. are going to have an even harder time keeping their players.

It's in the Larry Coon FAQ also:

The qualifying offer for a player coming off a rookie scale contract is a defined percentage over his fourth-year salary. The percentage is set in the rookie scale based on the player's draft position. However, the player may qualify for a higher or lower qualifying offer based on whether or not he met the "starter criteria" in the previous season, or in the average of the previous two seasons. The starter criteria are based on starting 41 games or playing at least 2,000 minutes in the regular season3.

• If the player was drafted with picks 10-30 and met the starter criteria, his qualifying offer equals the amount of the qualifying offer4 applicable to the ninth pick in the same draft class.
  
• If a second round pick or undrafted player met the starter criteria following his second or third season in the league, his qualifying offer equals the amount of the qualifying offer applicable to the 21st pick in the first round of the same draft class, if this amount is higher than the qualifying offer he otherwise would have received.

Yep. I think Gee is a piece to the puzzle. Maybe not long term but for the continued development of younger guys. I'd always planned on us retaining him and I think we will. I just don't see there being a great market for someone who showed minor glimpses in half of a season.

I could be wrong. Even so, I think me match the offer............

Minor? Dude proved he could start in the nba... Better served as our 6th man but he is no slouch ... Deff a market for a young role player who can start.

He did only shoot 41%. It's not like he can create his own shot. He had the benefit of being showcased on our talent-starved roster while getting starter minutes. Does he have value? Sure. Is he an NBA starter? Nah. The max I would match for him is about 4 years, 18 million.

Do Alonzo Gee and his agent understand what the qualifying offer is and how it works? Horrible. I hope Telich is fudging this story, or else I could be a better agent than whoever Gee hired.

So let me get this straight, Alonzo is pissed because we extended to him the highest possible qualifying offer we could? Now he's butt hurt because he's not getting any offers from other teams, so he's going to intentionally miss summer league? Makes absolutely no sense to me, what am I missing?

It doesn't make any sense. It's all bluster. Free agents that are not under contract don't go to summer league. Gee probably wouldn't need to go if he had a contract.

The only thing I wish is that Gee's agent wasn't such a petty bitch about this stuff. I don't think it's doing his client any favors.
