Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Bynum Presser

I'm not arguing the fact that he's top 10. I've said multiple times that he's top 10 from the start. I was disputing the fact that he's a top 5 center in the league. And even if Andy wasn't "injury prone" I still don't think he'd garner the same value as Dwight, Hibbert, Noah, Marc Gasol, Brook Lopez, or even Duncan or KG.

Really? Andy's the first guy to put up 14-14-3 since Barkley in the mid 80's and you don't think he'd have the same value as guys like Hibbert, Noah, Lopez, and a broken-down KG? Those guys are better than Andy in certain facets of the game, but none of them approach his all-around dominance. Howard, Duncan, and Gasol are on another tier as the top-3, imo, but Andy on the same level as any other center in the league.

Andy only played 25 games last season. Very good chance he wouldn't have averaged that over the course of 82 games.

Based on TT's jump in rebounds, there's a very good chance Varejao would've kept up that pace......

On a side note, it was pretty cool hearing Coach K single out Andy today on the USA Basketball Real Training Camp telecast.

Lmao, "broken down KG"? That's crazy. If KG is broken down then why were the Clippers willing to do a package deal for KG , Pierce, and Doc Rivers for Bledsoe, DeAndre Jordan, and 2 future first rounders. Come on now...you're exaggerating with that. That guy can single-handedly run a defense.

On another note though you already said Duncan, Howard, and Gasol are better than Varejao. Noah does EVERYTHING Varejao does on the floor and he has 2 more inches on him. They're so many similarities in their games that it's crazy. Still I think you be hard pressed to find more people who would rather have Varejao over Noah outside of RCF of course. And Lopez is better than Varejao. The guy was the consensus #2 center in the league at the beginning of the season. His deficiencies on the defensive end are way overblown right now also. He's made strides and isn't nearly as bad a defender as he used to be. Couple that with his refined offensive game and imo, and the opinion of many, he's better than Andy.

That puts Andy just outside the top 5 when it comes to centers. Where he stands in the top 10 is up for debate but personally idrc. And you could also argue that guys like Cousins and maybe even Greg Monroe are better than Andy too.

You're right. He would've picked up speed over the course of the season, eventually averaging 16-16-6. Good call.

And btw that "14-14-3" is also embellished. That stat line is impressive but you're making it out to appear as though guys haven't nearly come close to that mark. Noah just averaged 12-11-4. And Duncan averaged 22-12-4 for 5-6 years in his prime. Shit, even a "broken down KG" averaged 12-13-4 in last year's playoffs.

No, you merely interpreted it that he made it out to be as though no one has come close. He stated a fact and didn't give any indication as to whether or not anyone came close. It is a fact that no one has averaged those stats since the 80s.

Ehh true. Idk why I interpretd that stat the way I did. Regardless though many have come close to the stat which is why I don't hold that stat line in as high regard as Nathan. Many guys don't qualify for that list because they miss the assist or rebound totals by fractions of 1. For what it's worth if you make the cut-off for that group 14-13-3 is doesn't become very exclusive at all. Nice stat but not enough to make me think any more highly of Varejao than I already do...Top 10 worthy.

Time to dig up Andy's Thread cause it seems to be buried. They have been playing some old Cavs Playoff games on NBA TV. I was impressed by Andy's energy to a point where I think he may have another Playoff Level of intensity as do many players around the league. His play is going to be crucial in our playoff runs as long as he can continue to produce like he has. We have a very unique talent in Varejao. With that being said I can not wait to see the Playoff version of Kyrie, Dion, and TT.

They need to retire Andy's jersey out of general principal of how to play this fucking game: with intensity.

Andy's nobody's friend on the court, this how it should be. He goes out and hustles his ass off every night. There's no off nights with this guy.

Amazing player, a gem nobody really recognizes like they should.

And this was all happening as there was no way to communicate with them

Huh? Andy doesn't speak Portuguese? That's kinda weird for a Brazilian.

Dude, take some time and read some history books about Portuguese explorers and the Age of Exploration. Portuguese is spoken in Brazil, and there is a definite reason for it. Along these same lines, it's the "mysterious" reason Spanish is spoken in Mexico. :chuckles:
