Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
QUOTE=Douglar;1650631]Let's just say that TT, AB, Varejao and Bynum are all healthy.

Who would be the best complimentary fit next to Bennett in the front court?

That's probably got to be Varejao.

Varejao's got the P&R defense, mobility, and court awareness to cover for Benett's rookie learning on defense
Varejao works better when he plays with a big that can stretch the floor so he's got lanes to roll to the hoop
Varejao is still effective on offense outside the paint because he sets great screens and his catch and shoot game isn't embarassing anymore.[/QUOTE]

Think the odds are that 1 or 2 are out for some part of the season. Still think we could use another big. At this point my vote would be to sign Shavlik Randolph. When he got a chance to play in Boston he looked like a poor mans AV. He's a UFA, cheap, hustles and rebounds well. Last year he was paid less than 300k so he should be cheap.

AV is much less of a question mark than Bynum in my opinion. He has had some serious bad luck, that has led to good luck in the drafting department for the Cavs. Max has implied that he would have played in the post season the year before last if there was something at stake. He does not have degenerative issues like Bynum. He has had some freakish injuries including an unusual muscle tear, reaction to medicine?clot, and most likely a torn tendon due to Scott's insistence on making the team run grueling practices.

He has never been an Iron man, but there is nothing specific to worry about besides his level of intensity. This is going to be the first season in awhile that he has not played basketball year round, so hopefully we will see that focus and health again this season.

Medication didn't cause the clot, it was just a random thing. The reason he couldn't play anymore was because he was put on blood thinners due to the clot and playing while on them could cause serious risks.

I wouldn't worry about Andy's energy at all. I heard someone say Varejao is the type of guy every coach wants.

It's because Andy brings it every night. Can you honestly say you've seen a game where Varejao slacked off?

It's not in his DNA. His DNA is to compete in this game, every time he steps on the court. I don't think there's a player in the NBA that's as consistent with his energy and effort than Andy.

Even after he got paid, he still brought the intensity, focus and fire every game. That's really rare to have in a player. As I said, it's in his DNA. He was raised to be a tireless worker, and a serious competitor.

Hope our gem stays healthy for once so everyone in the league has to recognize Andy's value as a player. I don't even want to trade him, he's too rare of a competitor to trade, guys of his makeup are tough to find. And don't give me no Reggie Evans/Ivan Johnson crap, sure there's other hustle players but there's only one Varejao.

I know they say this about clots, but why do people always get them after surgery? Do you think he would have had the clot and died if he had not had that surgery?

It's possible to get them randomly though it isn't likely. Especially in a 30 some year old athlete. There's a lot going on to increase risk from it. The surgery itself is traumatic and throws off the balance of the body, the physical damage causes increased clotting factors, resting causes blood to pool more, and other reasons.

Though if he wasn't having follow ups that caught it it could have been much worse.

Clots are a complication of surgery. They are relatively rare, but incredibly serious. Andy is lucky his clot didn't get stuck in his brain or heart. Obviously an elderly person has an increased risk, as does a smoker, but in Andys case he was just a victim of chance.

The clot is part of his healing process but they normally stay stuck to the wound

Neat video. Had to keep pausing it though so I could look at the pictures and keep up with the caption.

Andy is my all time favorite cav and could end up being my all time fav player, period. I was one of a very few who supported him during his holdout. I really, really hope he can stay healthy the rest of his career and prove he is the player I think he can be. (An allstar and maybe even DPOY).

This is from ESPN's "stars with something to prove". There you go. Varejao is a star.

Anderson Varejao, Cleveland CavaliersWhen on the court, Varejao is among the game's very best centers and a monstrous presence in the paint; he averaged 14.1 points and 14.4 rebounds last season before an ankle injury and blood clot ended his campaign after just 25 games. The problem is, this is a recurring theme. He's played no more than 31 games in a season since 2009-10. And with Andrew Bynum's problematic knees still a huge question mark, the Cavs can't afford another season in which Varejao plays just one-third of the games.

I can't wait for Andy to be apart of this line up this year and I'm surprised he isn't talked about more around here. The guy is a legit all star when he is not injured.

Angelo (NY): What is Cleveland going to do with both Bynum and Verajo? Are they going to play together?? Who starts and who sits???

Kevin Pelton (2:19 PM):Well, let's see them both healthy before we get into that. But I don't think playing them is inconceivable so long as there's a competent outside shooter at small forward.
