Cavaliers’ Varejo receives flop warning

Cavaliers’ Anderson Varejao received a warning for violating the league’s anti-flopping rule during the Cavaliers vs. 76ers game on Saturday, Nov. 9. View video>>

He got shoved slightly, but definitely not that much. He deserved it.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned that Varejao has been looking old and slower in recent games. At times he's a shell of his former self. Hopefully it's just part of adjusting and getting back from the injuries and missed time from last season. I'd rather it be that than the start of a sudden decline in his play and usual energetic style.

Andy no longer has the quickness to play PF, he should be firmly entrenched at center whether it is as a back up or a starter.

I noticed that a bit myself as well.

When you consider the crazy energy/pace he was playing with before getting hurt last year to now it is night and day.

Then again that could be a change in what Mike Brown is asking from him on Offense/Defense.

Whatever it is we can't afford for Andy to noticeably slip right now as the center position will continue to be one that needs constant vigilance as everyone playing it currently has some kind of bugaboo they need to deal with.

Varejao is 31 now. He isn't just going to go out there and play with reckless abandon. Even if he hasn't played much the last few years, his body is still older.

I think Varejao is also playing smarter. He can't be oblivious to how important he is to the team. So playing with a bit more caution might keep him healthier.

Andy shouldn't be playing 33 mpg with his injury history the last few years. Especially this early in the season and after injuries at the end of last year. Hopefully with Bynum expanding minutes his will be lowered and well see more output as the season progresses.

In a perfect world, no, you wouldn't want to have to rely on him for as many minutes as we are asking of him. Mike Brown needs to just put winning on the backburner for the here and now and develop this team from the ground up.. I'd rather pay the price now so we can reach a higher level sooner by getting kids developed properly. I know and expected to see some painful basketball out of the gate this season. This is a team transitioning from one that has been in tank mode to one that wants to begin taking the game seriously, and playing winning basketball. That process isn't done with a flip of the switch. I'd like to keep AV and AB in the 20 minute range, personally.

AV has slowed down but i am impressed with how he has looked offensively. At times, he lights it up with that elbow jumper. Him and Kyrie run the pick n' roll pretty well together.

A couple years ago, i would CRINGE everytime Varejao attempted a shot. I think AV is an incredibly smart player and as his athleticism starts to fade due to age, i expect him to develop new ways to effect the game.

I hope he sticks around with the Cavs for the rest of his career.

I was thinking 24-24 for each. Play them both at center and only at center, maybe do both for some big teams or teams that have issues with big lineups... but 24 for both would be ideal.

I remember the first ever thread I made on this website was about Andy possibly developing a jumpshot way back when "stretch 4" became everyone's favorite term. I got laughed out of the building. :chuckles: It's nice to see him hitting those mid-range shots on pick and pops.

I got laughed at asking why he didn't dunk more. Haha. He actually started dunking for the first time that season.

Why are not more people watching this Varejao flop?

I dont like AV's body language. I dont think his play has anythng to do with his age or being out for a year. I Think Scott let Anderson be the player AV could be and Brown is pigeon holing him into a style he doesnt want to play.

I think its time to trade AV. Brown has made him expendable
