Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Andy is good and all but to hinge our entire season on him? Ridiculous. He affects every game he's in, but he's not a literal game changer.

I love the guy, but he wasn't even the best player on the Brazilian team. Cavs fans are pretty delirious sometimes.

Considering he's the literally the only guy with typical size for a C on our roster**, the entire season does seem to hinge on him. It's not that he's the most talented player on our team but literally behind him at the C spot we have bunch of PF's who don't have great height for the PF spot let alone C and an old guy who didn't play at all last season. Hell even if Lebron goes down for a stretch, we have at least an average replacement level calibre SF in Marion ready to go.

**Sorry forgot about Kirk: I think just proves my point lol

Aside from the birthday hymn – (which Andy “conducted”) – the Wild Thing celebrated with an impromptu three-point shooting contest with Shawn Marion and Kevin Love. The best shooting form belonged to Love, but Varejao and Marion both showed off their impressive rang

I think the Cavs are hinging the season on Irving, love and Lebron. if AV goes out you bring in Thompson.

I just don't see many opponents who can make an impact at any efficiency from center that will offset the efficiency of that trio

AV though makes it difficult for teams to out efficiency or produce in the first place.

Did someone actually say Varejao has impressive range?

I can't see what Pioneer posted. Was it that 3 against Atlanta Andy hit. One of my favorite moments. Andy can shoot, he has not been asked to. I am hoping BLATT watched trade of him 2 years ago when Byron had him shooting regularly.

I hope he doesnt. Andy is an ok at best shooter for a big from beyond 10 feet. We have other players such as Love, Lebron and Matrix capable of playing PF or even Center in Love that are great shooters for big men.

This team will be about putting players in their most effiecent offensive positions. For Andy that is not shooting, it is pick and roll and garbage points.

I've heard of scoring points in garbage time, but I've never heard of garbage points.

I have never associated Andy with points. I associate Andy with extra possessions.

Garbage points refers to tip ins, put backs and extra possessions... So I guess you're both right?

He shot exactly 50% (62/124) from 15-24 feet last season according to NBA.com. If he continues to improve his shooting, I don't know why you wouldn't want him taking that shot...and with the players we have around him, he's likely to find himself open from midrange quite often.

Yeah I was about to say just from the eye test I remember Varejao as having a money mid-range jump shot. Props to Nathan for pulling up the numbers to back that claim up. Not sure why anyone would want Andy to stop shooting that shot. He makes it with ease. If open he should shoot away from mid.

Mike Brown didn't want him to shoot that elbow jumper. I wasn't suggesting he bomb from 3, but top of the key he is nearly automatic.
