Andrew Wiggins

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Wiggins handles need work, but they are far from horrible. He got fouled on a strip (no call) and the Wiggins haters are making a big deal of it. Yet, he had many drives where either scored or was fouled, but I guess those don't count.

Coming into the league, LeBron's handles were not great, still are not great, but he overcompensated with a stiff arm that he will teach Wiggins.

Let's put it this way, the handles of a 19 year old rookie Wiggins are not nearly as bad as Kevin Love's defense.

Yep, yes they are.

Lebron started at PG his rookie year, he has always had a nasty handle, for his size it's elite

Lebron couldn't shoot like wiggins though

This is just ridiculous. Go watch some video of rookie LeBron. Wiggins is almost helpless on the perimeter against tight defense in summer league. He can work on his handle every day for the next 10 years and won't compare to rookie LeBron.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Paul George and Kawhi Leonard both had terrible handles coming into the league. Whether he is here or not, it's something he can fix.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Yep, yes they are.

They certainly are. The importance of it is debatable though, Wiggins wont have to handle it much but Love still has to play defense.

That's why I want both :chuckles:

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

We got 3 playmakers on the team that can handle the ball and we got people bitching about Wiggins' handles. That's one of the weakest fucking excuses ever. We're gonna regret trading away Wiggins. There's a reason why Minny is desperately trying to pry Wiggins away from us because they know it's now or never. Nobody is gonna want to trade Love and see him walk. Just hold out until the trade deadline and force Minny's hands. We don't have to make any moves now. I would rather give Minny 3 1st round picks than trade away Wiggins. Don't be a fool Gilbert.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

I'm with Spencer ^^^......I think that we should sweat MINNY knowing that he's gonna leave them anyway. Why should we pony up a possible generational talent for Love at this point? No way is GSW in any hurry to include Klay Thompson so why should we be? I REALLY don't want to lose Wiggins.

Christ above, just sign him already. I can't deal with all this uncertainty.

Almost helpless? Thanks for blowing it completely out of proportion there. Only Prime can watch a game where Wiggins earns 20 FTAs and use helpless in any form. His handle is still incredibly loose but he was still able to create separation to get off his shots regularly. He elevates effortlessly on his jumper above the outstretched arms of whomever is guarding him, his step back is already damn near unblockable. Given a role where he's spoon fed wide open corner threes and open driving lanes from playing with two elite ball handlers this kid could flourish in the extra spacing.

Last night alone he tried splitting double teams at the top of the key at least five times, getting stripped twice in the process. That's not something we're going to ask him to do with Kyrie/LeBron on the floor, Blatt was obviously asking him to play outside his comfort zone. I really don't know how anyone can call him helpless against tight defense though, that's a gross exaggeration. He lead our Summer League in points while rarely forcing shots, he gets his in the flow of the offense.

Pretty impressive this was all done with a massive spotlight on him as the #1 pick and the subject of intense trade rumors.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

It's a pretty interesting situation that whether this kid is packaged in a trade for Kevin Love or not is 100% based on the whims of LeBron James. If LeBron thinks what this kid provides is too valuable for the future, he's going nowhere. There's never been a case before where another player can literally dictate where the first overall draft pick plays the first several years of his career.

This case shouldn't exist. No player should have that kind of organizational role.... Especially after screwing us over in the past....

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

I thought the strip was a foul since short-armed Canaan reached in front of him from Wiggins' left and tapped the ball out of Wiggins' right hand. Don't see how he could do that without fouling and I saw contact. For what it's worth, Canaan is four years older than Wiggins and had a full year of "NBA" in him.

Agree - it was a playground move against a handler who doesn't know how to use his off hand to slap down the defenders arm. Wiggins is too busy thinking about switching hands while dribbling instead of protecting the ball. It's easy to learn the slapdown, and once you have success with it, you never go away from it. Wiggins probably never needed it until now because he would just blow by people so quickly.

Signing him means absolutely nothing. If anything, it may mean that a trade is in motion if he were signed in a hurry. The sooner we sign him the sooner the 30 days are up when we can trade him and have his salary count towards the salary matching. Until that 30 days are up, his salary does not count towards the salary match and we'd have to include even MORE assets to make the trade. It makes zero sense for us to trade him right now.

My guess is that this was a 'look at what we could offer' type of move so that Minny doesn't rush into anything before making absolutely sure that we've made our final offer. It was meant to keep them on the hook for as long as possible, hopefully until the trade deadline when they might be more desperate to take a lesser offer.

If he's traded now, there's pretty much zero chance it is a two team trade.

In that scenario the Cavs would have to trade a minimum of 3 players to match salary, which I don't see us doing.

He hasn't been signed yet for cap purposes. Once Allen makes a decision, I expect all contracts to be signed that day.
