Andrew Wiggins

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

His handle is certainly bad. I think everyone knows that it has been discussed ad-nauseum.

Playing with LBJ would alleviate some of the issues that causes, he would rarely be seen trying to create with the ball. You would see him in spot-up 1 or 2 dribble drive positions, and in transition using his athletic ability to finish. Defensively he can contribute day 1.

His handles are likely to improve and I expect them to tighten up significantly over the next two years, I am not sure that I ever see him as a ball dominant 2 or 3 that can create for himself and others, but its far too early to tell.

Bottom line he can contribute day one, but we have to have realistic expectations. This isn't an 18 year old Lebron clone.

which is fine with me. Because we have the real LeBron. Wiggins is in an ideal situation. He won't have to be the man. He will be at best... the 4th option. Hardly ever asked to create offense. Where he will make his impact (defense and quick scoring) he will be the most valuable.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Paul George and Kawhi Leonard both had terrible handles coming into the league. Whether he is here or not, it's something he can fix.

No, they didn't. Not nearly this bad.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Doesn't matter if they are were early as bad (and they were not). George and Kawhi were not the #1 picks of their draft.

Wiggins' very weak handles were pointed out at the beginning of his college career, but people echoing this message was labeled as fringe distractors. By draft day, basically everyone (including just about every scout) realized that his handles, shot creation abilities are below average compared to an average NBA SF and very low compared to a #1 pick.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Christ above, just sign him already. I can't deal with all this uncertainty.

The sooner we sign him, the sooner the Cavs shop ships his jersey to me, the sooner we trade him for Kevin Love, the sooner I'll be selling the jersey on eBay for half its original value.

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

People bitching about Wiggins handles is one of the most absurd things I've seen on this forum. First off his handles are average for an NBA forward, they are not in any way horrible. I would estimate they are better than Kwahi Leonard's right now whose handles are quite weak. The only thing with Wiggins is that he tries to make fancy plays which other players wouldn't dream of due to his athleticism, but ones that are a high risk for turnover. That's not the same as having bad handles. Actually you have to have some very good ball control to be able to make those spin moves and defensive splits. Sure he looks weak compared to Kyrie and Dion but those two are elite ball handlers, perhaps top 10 in the NBA.

There are so many things to like about this kid but Cleveland fans have to find the one thing that they have to hate on whenever a new prospect is drafted. It happened with Waiters, it happened with Kyrie and now it's happening with Wiggins.

I don't understand what you are watching, but his ball handling isn't close to average. It is among the worst in the league. And it's not that big of a deal because of the role he would play here with Kyrie and LeBron. He wouldn't be asked to create anything, just dunk lobs and spot up. That and his defense would make him a valuable player here.

That isn't the reason for the debate. The debate is if we should pass on a top 5 player in the league because we have a guy that can dunk lobs, spot up (he hasn't shown he is ready to do this yet either), and play defense.

His handle and vision is so limited that the chances he is ever a top 5 player in the league is infinitesimal. You just don't develop those things very much at the NBA level when you have been playing ball your whole life. He can get better, but not nearly enough to be Kevin Durant or on that level. He can be a valuable player like a Kawhi Leonard, better even. I don't pass up on Love for the hope that is what he becomes.

Wrong thread

Re: #1: Andrew Wiggins - G/F - Kansas University

Really disappointed that he has just one assist in 120 minutes summer league so far, especially considering that Blatt's offense should in theory generate plenty of opportunities for assists. I don't think his court vision is really that poor, but it does make me concerned about his basketball IQ on the offensive end.

But hey, a lot of Wiggins supporter thinks he can be TMac or Jordan.

Handles, passing, vision be damned.
