The season speaks for itself. But hey, a dunk. Best fucking rookie of all time I guess.

I mean look, you guys, you've fully bought in and nothing is going to change your minds right now. Fine. Someone will be proven right by next season. All I can say is that through season 1, I've been right about Bennett and you haven't.

:chuckles: Congratulations, hot shot.

Enjoy it, because this is the only season you're going to be "right" about. I don't keep tabs on you, so I'm just assuming you think Bennett won't amount to much?

I'm pretty confident Bennett will get into phenomenal shape this summer and will start to break out next season. I am also pretty confident that we'll be stuck watching Tristan's ass in the starting lineup for a while before Brown realizes Bennett has All Star potential and is a much better NBA power forward in today's game.

But hey, you were right that Bennett wasn't all that good this season! Disregarding the various injuries and coming into the season rusty/out of shape from his shoulder...but congrats!

Ok?

I'm sorry he had one of the worst rookie seasons for a number 1 pick ever. I didn't make that happen. That's not my fault. And it's highly, highly unlikely he's going to go from that into an all-star. But whatever. You clearly get riled up over Bennett for whatever reason.

So, I guess congrats on.....I dunno. Telling me how sometime in the future you're positive I'll be wrong? Maybe, but to get all worked up when, as of right now, you have no idea what Bennett will end up being makes no sense.

Here is my thesis, and I'm not sure how anyone actually finds problems with it. Anthony Bennett was bad this season. Really bad. I don't think it's wise to declare him the future of our power forward position based on everything we just saw. If we can move him for an upgrade, we do it. If Aaron Gordon or Noah Vonleh is available, we take them. Maybe Bennett turns out to be this stud you hope he will be, but I think it's unwise to assume it.

I feel like Rich is feeling the pain I had to deal with all season in this thread :chuckles:. I could post nothing but facts and still have 10 guys jump me like I just banged their wives. I think people need to not get so emotional about AB.

Sure we all want him to do well, it doesn't change what happened this year though.

My particularly favorite moment was rchfildcavs making a long winded AB post about the elite quickness, insane torque when he leaps, mind boggling touch when releasing the ball about 30 games into the season. I follow it up with a post showing AB had a PER of 1.8 at the time.

I love this forum.

We couldn't trade him for anything eve if we wanted to for anything of value. I think he'll be pretty solid though. I'm all for trading TT and drafting Noah Vonleh. He's my dream choice if we have the chance.

do you understand the word potential rich? serious question because i dont know how you didnt see it with bennett. Is he lighting the nba on fire right now, no but i would make any bet that says next years class wont be that great out the gate either. Aaron Gordon is going to be better than bennett? doubt that, he is what an inch taller than bennett with no jump shot? who was your choice for the # 1 pick this year genius? your year long trolling anthony bennett is annoying as hell

Does that mean he was wrong? He was talking things that happen on the basketball court, not an arbitrary number you read on a website.

How is Rich trolling? Again this gets back to the emotional attachment people have. If AB was on any other team we would be laughing at how awful he was, that is a fact. He finished this year with a 6.9 PER or 358th in the NBA.

Rich is simply stating facts, sure there is potential. He also wouldn't be scrutinized nearly as much if he wasn't the #1 pick. Like it or not there is a certain level of expectation for a #1, no one would care if he was the 25th pick.

There are a lot of reasons people have their doubts aside from his awful showing, there is the issue with his size, and mental makeup. He absolutely could overcome all of this and become a stud, but people like Rich are just taking the data set they have and analyzing it. Not many people have made the turn around from where AB is now to all star. Usually you either have it or you dont.

I do actually think he will be a decent player though, we were just unfortunate enough to have to take him at #1 in a terrible draft and he is unlikely to ever live up to that billing.

Maybe, but a lot of times we are way too quick to judge other teams because we don't know as much about them as we do us.

I will bet you any amount of money you want that Jabari Parker destroys AB's rookie season. Absolutely blows it the fuck away. Any amount you have or can get.

Dear lord don't let him eat all that pop corn.....

I kid I kid

Hearing it two times made this joke even funnier.

Excellent post.

Here is the problem for you. Everything you say about Bennett is based on a hope. Everything I say is based on what he actually did on the court. Which one of us is in the stronger position?

You guys want to crown him the PF of the future, ok, go ahead. I don't, and quite frankly between the two of us I have more evidence backing up my position than you do.

But let's actually take the "arguments" and analyze them.

1) Do I understand potential? I do. Bennett didn't show much this year. Furthermore, I was always against drafting an undersized power forward number 1 overall. His size is always going to be a problem.

2) Next years class won't be great out of the gate? Well, it won't take a whole hell of a lot to be better than what we saw from Bennett, will it. In fact, I'm going to go waaaaaaaaay out on a limb and say that the first five picks in this draft will all have better rookie season than Bennett just had.

3) Is Aaron Gordon going to be better than Bennett? Well, I certainly think so. Again, the bar has been set pretty low. But I like your argument. "Doubt that." Good. He's a more fluid athlete who is leaps and bounds better off the dribble and has a much higher ceiling on defense.

4) Who was my number 1 choice? I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. I'm not criticizing the drafting of Bennett. I'm just admitting he, along with most of that draft, isn't very good and the mere fact we picked him shouldn't keep us from upgrading the position this year. Listen, had we taken Otto Porter I wouldn't be burying my fucking head in the sand and asking us to steer clear from Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins simply because my guy was taken the year before. No, Otto Porter didn't show nearly enough this year for the Wizards to just blindly consider him the future of their SF position. Note, that does NOT mean they made the incorrect draft choice. You compare the pick to the players drafted in the same class.

5) You're obviously here because of an attachment to Bennett. I'm not. I want what's best for this basketball team, not Anthony Bennett.

I still love Anthony Bennett and foresee a bright future because all the mechanics and skills and athleticism are there. His issue is all mental, whether it's immaturity, irresponsibility, or just not putting in the preparation to be ready for the game. All of those can be fixed with an attitude adjustment. He seems to be, by all accounts, a really great guy. He's just young and in over his head. Next year, with a healthy offseason and summer league and all that, he can come in a completely different player. He may be undersized height wise, but he's a well above average athlete, with strength and vertical to spare, plus he's got a 7'1 wingspan. He just needs to be more motivated and lay off the gravy and Krispy kreme this summer.

I'd still be ecstatic if we get Vonleh in the draft though.
