Anthony Bennett

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All I remember is Bennett keeping Plumlee out of the paint. It was impressive post defense for a rookie who is 6'8" guarding a 7 footer.

That's funny, all I can remember is Al Harrington blowing by him. Repeatedly.

The weird thing about the Al Harrington blow bys that scared me were the fact that its not like he over committed on the close out. He was like 7 feet from harrington when harrington started moving and couldn't stop in time to correct.

Just infuriating to watch. Mike Brown went crazy after it happened the second time in a row, immediately called a timeout and yanked him from the game.

Funny how some are comparing a 3rd year pro (who was drafted as a defensive specialist) to an overweight rookie on defense. Lebron James was not the same defender his rookie year compared to his 3rd year in the league (and he wasn't overweight or coming off surgery). Give Bennett this summer to get in shape and start next season off on the right foot and see what he can do. Some of you obviously don't play basketball very much. When your body is out of shape, your mind wants to do things that you know you can do but your body just can't physically do it. Give Bennett a chance. TT had 3 years and he still looks like shit.

So, I'm looking through the posts and reading, you know cause that helps.

And you know what I don't notice? A single post where someone has said a single positive thing about TT or said Bennett couldn't be better.

Ben posted the screen, and the following responses were along the lines "well what does that tell us..TT doesn't defend on the perimeter well either."

Like there isn't a person here on the "anti" Bennett said who was making this into a Bennett vs. Thompson thing. Nobody.

You're making a lot of weird assumptions. I'm a huge Gordon fan. I have no particular attachment to Bennett and never talked about him pre draft. So I'm operating from a position with as little bias as possible while still being a Cavs fan. Rchfld is the same way. I won't stand up for too many of the other jamokes on here though.

That said, the real difference between you and I is that I'm using my basketball knowledge to project and you refuse to acknowledge anything but tangible production. I see physical tools that separate Bennett from most PFs in this league. Even when he was grossly out of shape, his quickness and first step were elite for a PF. That's something you refuse to acknowledge because it didn't lead to a bunch of layups. Even when he was grossly out of shape and struggling mentally because of it and the pressure of being #1, his jump shooting mechanics were gorgeous and rock solid for any position, let alone a big. But again you refuse to acknowledge it because he wasn't hitting his jumpers in his injury plagued, sporadic rookie season. Even when he was out of shape, he showed that he could be an absolute brick wall in the post defensively. But you refuse to acknowledge it because he struggled with some guys....like every rookie in the history of ever. I could go on and on.

So no. Stop discrediting people for saying positive things about Bennett by fabricating some narrative about how he's "my guy" and I have some sort of weird bias towards him. The real difference is that you're disregarding traits and skills just because they didn't translate into numbers for a 20 year old PF who was injured all offseason, came in grossly overweight, had the added pressure of being a surprise #1 pick, and was on a team with some serious issues all season.

Some of us are choosing to put some pieces to the puzzle together to predict what this kid will become.

I meant to point this out, but notice the guy I was responding to wasn't you in that post. It was Rebelzsomething, a guy who joined the site after the draft. Here's guessing he's an Anthony Bennett fan first, Cavs fan second.

Lol....I clearly understood why Ben posted the screenshot of TT. It wasn't a knock on TT. It was him showing an example of why screenshots, depicting AB as a bad defender, is not accurate. Not sure why you didn't get that lol. For some reason, you seem to be quite sensitive on the matter. I guess you're trying very hard to convince yourself that AB is incapable of bouncing back from one of the worse rookie seasons in NBA history. That's fine but knowledgeable basketball minds would like to see what he can do when he's not overweight and his timing is back. I guess that's something that you have a hard time processing. We'll see if the Cavs front office decides come next season. My money is on AB being on the team and playing significant minutes barring injuries.

Oh wait, you did say for the record that AB and TT weren't our PFs of the future.....maybe thats why you're so defensive....cause if Bennett does develop and ends up starting, it's going to make you look ridiculous and we can't have that!

Yeah...you might be right about that guy. :chuckles:

He fits into my passive aggressive statement from my previous post...

The Thompson lovers hate Bennett. The Thompson haters love Bennett. Those in between see the potential in Bennett and hope he reaches it because Thompson doesn't possess that kind of potential. Bennett can learn how to defend better on the perimeter. He is already adequate guarding in the post. He has a smooth looking jumper, the agility to beat guys off the dribble, and is a quick, explosive jumper around the rim.

I don't know what his PER is, nor do I care. I want to see him use those abilities on the floor and improve his weaknesses. Hopefully he can do that in the offseason because he isn't going to get to develop during games as long as Mike Brown is here.

Did someone have his PER from when he started getting rotation minutes, going back to that NOLA game? I believe it was around 14?

I just thought the term was old-fashioned.

Like how my wife uses sayings like "to beat the band," (Aggressively) "Joe Banana," (Joe Jamoke) and "Burny" (spicy) ever since we moved to western PA.

Odd that I love TT, but would be ecstatic if Bennett became the player he is capable of. I guess I've be using the wrong definition of hate for 25+ yrs.
